William Buck Memorial Postal Matches

Man... you are making this downright difficult. ;-)

I'm including my only target for this month . . .

I couldn’t get the app to score this - after many failed attempts- app scored this 89 - 123 - and 179 - I know it’s not a great target-but really app it’s not that horrible!!

Beginning to wonder if my barrels best days are behind it - roughly 8,000 rounds on it (since December) - not feeling nearly as tight as it used to

Hey Mr. Pudgy........
Not sure you can wear a barrel out with 8,000 rds.. I have about 22,000 rds on my barrel and just getting started. :)

Keep up the good shooting!!

Pudgy, I assume you used your Bergara and Eley Tenex? If incorrect, I need the rifle and ammo sinfo so I can post your score.

Thanks!

I just couldn’t leave well enough alone- had to try again- grabbed my 9 year old sons rifle with a better scope - waited for wind to settle a little and tried the unlimited again. Second attempt was a little better. -
Nicely done. I be Grumpy and you be Irritating. At this rate you are going to force me to retire and spend more time practicing.
You are going to get Gdawg09 all fired up when I tell him you used a CZ.

It’s Spring and time for the range again.
Not proud of this but thought I’d get a score in for April.
Two lousy scores in a row. I definitely have an off lot of ammo compared to my previous scores and shoots.
May be my last shoot with the factory barrel.

I am planning to put a non factory barrel on from Whidden gun works.
When I do that, which match will I shoot?
Thanks
John

John, you would move up to the Match Grade match. I have your score posted.

Good afternoon.
I shot my first Match Grade match today.
My new set up includes a new Criterion barrel from Whidden Gunworks. They took the blank and machined it for target match. I also had them to ammo test it to match me with the best ammo and lot at both 50 and 100 meters. The best match was Center X.
Whidden does a great job in their machining and customer service. I would recommend them to anyone needing a barrel.
The two shots I missed the 10 ring was due to me fighting a “floppy” target stand in a nice breeze today.
Otherwise I’m very satisfied that improvement lies ahead.

My initial target from my V22S with a new barrel, the MullerWorks 26” by DI David Lott with a modified Nevius chamber, was satisfactory. The chamber’s slightly larger shell area facilitates bullet alignment during engraving. I dedicated considerable time to optimizing the bolt to ensure consistent ignition. Further testing is required to determine if this modification enhances performance with different ammunition. Thus far, the results are satisfactory, not great.

Would you mind sharing how you're optimizing your bolt to ensure consistent ignition?

Thanks!

Great start on the new barrel

I've always liked the looks of a stainless barrel on walnut.

Very nice!!!

I dedicated a significant amount of time to meticulously polishing the majority of the bolt using a highly refined compound from Lineio #6. My primary focus was on the firing pin pathway and the pin itself. I polished the internal region where the cocking piece moves back and forth within the shroud. Additionally, I polished the cocking piece on all its surfaces, excluding the sear. Furthermore, I polished the internal surface of the bolt where the firing pin moves and polished the internal surface of the firing pin spring. To eliminate any sharp edges on the cut ends, I stoned the ends of the spring. I also stoned the end of the pin to reduce rim crushing. I adjusted the firing pin to just contact the pin stop when dry fired, used the original heavy spring which gave me the correct recommended pin rim depth, between 0.018 and 0.020 inches.
I cleaned all the parts with alcohol and applied Anschutz Keramik with a felt buffer. Let dry and wipe off any excess. I use a small amount of ceramic bicycle grease on the bolt lugs. When you use Keramik, you will find that the substance does not adhere to metal and cleans much easier.
My next step in testing I will start using the reduced weight springs.
As you can observe, I favor and believe in ceramic products, which are exceptional lubricants that bond effectively with metal.
A lot of this would not be necessary if they had DLC-coated key components of the bolt, especially the pin, shroud and cocking pice.

Thanks for the detailed response Sir!!!

How long does it normally take for the Keramik to dry. Even after several days , it wouldn't dry for me.

I use a Q-Tip to apply the Keramik, than after some time wipe off any excess with a dry Q-Tip. I find the 360 so easy to disassemble, I clean it after every trip to the range, using a soft brush and Q-Tips. I do the same procedure with my V22 360 repeater.

Bowchamp, I watched a few videos on the product from Anschutz. In all cases, they spray the product on the metal parts, and then promptly wipe it off. Search Youtube for the product and you can see how they show it being used.

FYI...
