CZ 457

New chassis Tuesday, fellas. PDC custom, L3I barrel. Element theos, but I have been known to swap scopes around. Craig makes a custom plate so that I can mount a bison tactical cheek piece.

I have a 36x Sightron laying around to start with on the CZ.
Without getting into a big which scope discussion. Talk me out of a Burris XTRii 5-25.
Euro Optic has them for about $550 iirc. Not the best and a bit dated, bulky, but checks my boxes (larger than 30mm tube= more elevation, mil/mil, zero stop, <$$$, not Chinese).

I wont try to sway your scope decision but this one is great.

Checks all my boxes, except for the China part.

How long did you have to wait for the stock?
Close to 7 months. That is my 4th chassis from him, and normally he ships in 3 or so. He is a super nice guy, and I talked to him a couple of times. He invested in another machine to increase his output, so I would assume turn around time will go back down.

I am at 3 going on 4 months for one of his CZ457 stocks. Its in LH since MPA cant get their head out of their ass and make one in LH.

L3i bottom metal and mag well on the way before pillar bedding.

CZ must be listening. I found on the new Pro Varmit that the sling studs are not wood screw type like I expected and were attached with nylok nuts. There is plenty of relief in a router slot up front for Area 419 "T-nuts". Probably enough to add a bit of weight if one desired.

OMG the Timney is about perfect out of the box. Around 11oz. The rear CZ attachment pin is now retained by a (teeny weenie) e-clip. All the fuss I read about the rear pin being super tight is a thing of the past on this example. It only took about 10 minutes to find the e-clip once it launched. It didn't go far but was hiding under a clamp support on my gun vise. I don't think I've ever seen pliers small enough for that little booger. Actual trigger installation took no time at all, truly drop in.

CZ bolt knob came off easily with a pair of channel locks protected by a shop towel.

Area 419 Med (28mm) might be a touch higher than needed with the Area 419 30moa rail. Lows would have worked with a Mark4 HD 6-24x52. I think I'll need a 3rd spacer for the Victor Co. Cheek Riser. Cheek riser will need to be removed for bolt removal. I got the brass stock inserts just in case this was necessary. The scope is a touch farther forward than I would like. A skosh longer LOP wouldn't hurt.

Good evening SH,
Got a 457 Pro Varmint headed to my LGS. Looking for any/all advice on where to start. No plans for heavy mods at this time, but trigger mods, action screw testing, and bolt shims are some of the things I’m aware of.

Other with the Pro Varmint owners, any particular ammo/velocities you’ve found that yours favors?
TIA

The 2 improvements that made the biggest change in a good way was the Jard trigger and pillar bedding the stock. Mine shoots in the 2’s and low 3’s with good ammo. I am impressed with the CZ. Mine is also the mtr version with match chamber

Depending on your ammo selection and headspace measurement, bolt shims were cheap and effective way to improve accuracy in my Pro Varmint.
Pillar bedding was +/- since mine liked lighter action torque settings so i'd only recommend if the bolt shims and lighter trigger weight doesn't help.
Also, the comb height was too low on the Pro Varmint for me with a FFP scope, you may want to consider adding some check height with something like the Victor Titan cheek riser.
YMMV, happy shooting
