Vortex Razor HD Gen III 6-36x56

For me, the problem is at 800-1400yds. With a larger caliber, the rifle shifts a bit. Sure enough, when it settles down, the tree always blocks the puff of dirt.

Never had any issues there either and it’s easier out there with the time of flight. Have shot them out to a mile with my Gen II and the tree 7C. If the dot or hash blocks the puff of dirt then you know where it is right? The dots or hash marks aren’t that big.

I bought a Razor II back in 2016. It has a simple MRAD reticle that I believe is the EBR-1C. No tree BS and the dot is easy to see.

I bought a Strike Eagle back in 2020 when they first came out. It has an EBR-7C Xmas tree reticle. It is too busy for me and the dot is smaller. I understand why the dot is smaller but it really is a PIA for me to pick up.

The unavailability of something like the EBR-1C reticle has stopped me from upgrading to the Razor III.

No doubt. I guess I need to practice more. But my eye winds up focusing automagically on the reticle and not the target. I've only been shooting long range a few months.

I am researching other brand scopes with non-tree reticles. I just find them easier to use.

You should play with it a little more before you give up on it. Learn the versatility of being more accurate with holds when shooting in the wind. Also the more accurate corrections when not on target to make a fast correction.

I shot for years with standard mil and moa reticles in matches and have had to hold out in space hoping it was the actual spot I needed for my holdover and wind call and I would not go back to a standard reticle.

The problem is you get the vocal minority yelling it’s needed and then they don’t sell. They used to offer one in the Gen II and discontinued them because they didn’t sell.

I get what you’re saying…

But IDK, times change and things evolve. The same tree reticles that have been popular for the last decade plus were more rare once upon a time… and with more and more PRS-style shooters moving towards simpler reticles lately and with them having become more popular, who knows?

I hope they do it.

Yeah who knows. The decade before that there were no tree reticle but I would have liked one as the game back then was different as well. Maybe if it keeps going to 25+ pound rifles and you don’t need a tree for shots then they may but I don’t think I will go away from a tree. Just gives me more versatility and doesn’t block anything for me. Grabbed this pic of it from Coldboremiracle’s post at AR15.com about his write up on the Gen III and I don’t see it blocking anything for me.

I don’t hate trees. And I don’t really feel like they block anything for me.

For me, like someone else already mentioned, it’s more about a busy reticle and all its little hashes making it distracting and hard for me not to focus on for my eyes/brain.

This is truly one of those personal preference type of things, I don’t think there’s one right way for everyone when it comes to reticles.

I get it and if it went back to .5 marks it would be fine with me too as I like that as well as long as a base reference point but at this point it is what it is and I don't mind it at all. Reticles definitely have a lot of personal preference in their choice and that’s definitely up to the end user to grab what they like and works for them.

All you guys who want a simple reticle again should write or call and let them know and if there is enough interest then who knows what the future will hold.

I prefer an SCR type as I typically dial distance and hold wind. I too can get distracted by too much reticle 'noise'.

That doesn't mean that I fail to see how tree reticles could be very useful for some.

However, I do like the horizontal .2 mil hashes and opposing .5 mil hashes on reticles like the EBR-7D. For target shooting, my G3 Razor is exceptional in that regard.

Im still happy with my purchase, 16 months later.
