My supply of -450s is depleting much faster than -400s. Does anyone have good data on 400s in 6BR (or similar) using stick powders in warm weather?

I'm gonna give it a try and see what happens, but would welcome input from the community.

$0 hazmat right now

I wouldn’t shoot a 400 in a .478 bolt face anything myself.
Why and would you consider the BR-4’s as they are reported to have the thicker cup on the magnums.

Just curious.

Because the are thin cupped and not intended for as high of pressures. The br4 has the thicker cup material so it should be suitable.
It’s not the brisance, it’s the ability to hold up to pressure after ignition I’m concerned with.

Thanks for the reply. Got it.

I think the next barrel I have spun will be 6 Dasher and though that’s a good ways off I have been researching it a bit.

Cheers

Make sure you have a smaller .062 firing pin vs a larger .080, or at least a tight fitting pin the hole fitment. Helps the thinner small rifle primer material resist cratering and ultimately punctures.

Thank you again, my friend.

I’m thinking of doing it on a CDG and I’ll have to research firing pin diameter on Ted’s action and if he offers them in differing diameters. But, if he does offer a smaller pin, then there would be a fair amount of slop around the hole…so, would I need it bushed?

Got lots of time to look into this…at this point it’s just something to think about as the thunderstorms roll in. lol.

The cdg will be just fine, it’s set up for high pressure already. All the arc actions are. Most customs. It’s mainly factory that is a concern.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll keep the -400s for .223. Trying them in 6BR seemed like a "thing to try" last night; glad I checked in here first.

I've got enough -450s for a couple of years. I've just got even more -400s....
