Get Access SubscribeI'm doing the same. Waiting for an Ambi 18" CHF chrome-lined barrel in DDC.Yeah I saw the Primary Arms listing but they were OOS. I think these were the non-ambi lower, correct? I agree that there are those that will buy an ambi lower…….
Th chf 16 profile is somewhere between the super duty and hbar barrels. Well executedI'm doing the same. Waiting for an Ambi 18" CHF chrome-lined barrel in DDC.
I don't know if the weight measurements online are correct, but it looks like the strato match version with the cut rifled barrel is significantly heavier. 7.8 pounds vs 9.4 pounds in the 18" versions.
Either way, it seems like a great middle ground between a 5.56 DMR and a large frame 6.5 creedmoor. I already have both of those, might as well fill the gap in my lineup
Id be nice if Geissele started selling 6 ARC CHF barrels. Anyone know if/when that’s going to happen?
Ahh..thanks for the details. I didn't realize they had so much proprietary stuff in their 6 arc uppers, makes sense now why they don't offer the barrels individually. It's pretty unlikely as the barrels they have use a proprietary barrel extension for a proprietary bolt and given the enlongated extension requires a proprietary upper and barrel nut (the Mk16 rail body might be the same but not sure).
They could do a 6ARC barrel to normal AR barrel specs, but why go through all this trouble just to put out another basic 6ARC barrel along side your secret sauce upper/barrel/gun?
I doubt they would put out just part of the proprietary system and have people fuck it up and go crying on the net. That said, I wouldn't see any harm in selling the complete upper as the only thing to screw up there would be the buffer/spring...and maybe to them that is a bit too much leeway as well.
They have posted on social media they will be doing uppers and barrels. Maybe the barrels will come with a bolt like some companies like JP and Noveske do. They said they want to get all the dealers stocked first of rifles. I do know the barrel nut is different, but still works on the regular handguards. Only difference in barrel nut is it’s just a little longer to make it more Ridgid. I have a 18” stratomatch and i swapped the handguard to a tabbed mk16 16.5” i found during a blem sale. Mk18 handguard was just to bulky for my needs since I’m not currently using arca. I’m not sure if the actual upper is different besides the forward assist is moved forward to have more clearance for the charging handle. I was told uppers and barrels they were looking at towards the end of the year, but they were always typically late on etas. It's pretty unlikely as the barrels they have use a proprietary barrel extension for a proprietary bolt and given the enlongated extension requires a proprietary upper and barrel nut (the Mk16 rail body might be the same but not sure).

I appreciate the suggestions. Out of the 6mm arc uppers you listed the only one that really interest me is the pws , but I just can't get past not having a forward control assist on my upper . Even though the geissele model gfr rifle I am deciding on doesn't have the ambi bolt release , I am ok with that. I currently already have another lower with full ambi controls and I don't use the ambi bolt release. I am going to go ahead and go through with my purchase from primary arms . Now I just have to decide which one of my scopes I am going to slap on the geissele gfr rifle when IIf you don't want to commit that much $$$ up front you could always just build or buy a 6 ARC upper. I don't think Geissele sells complete 6 ARC uppers but there are a number of places that do. Here are a few:
- Noveske Gen 4 18” SPR 6 ARC Upper ($1850)
- Sgt of Arms Light Hunter Upper ($1,130)
- Grendel Hunter 18” complete upper ($540)
- Centurion Arms 6 ARC Complete Upper ($1,200)
- PWS Long Stroke Piston 6 ARC Complete Upper ($1,130)
I think you’ll be happy with it. Even though it’s not ambi it still has some enhanced features. Mainly has a spring loaded detent where the upper closes on the rear to keep tension on it for a tight fit and lower also says gfr 6arc on it. I’ve tried about 3 different factory rifles and Geissele was the best accuracy wise. Other 2 i couldn’t get better then 1” on my best groups regardless of ammo. Both of my Geisseles are 1/2” capable for sure. Majority of my groups are .6-.7.I appreciate the suggestions. receive it , either my s&b 3-20 ultra short with msr2 reticle or my nf atacr 4-16 mil xt .

Oh wow that’s interesting that’s probably why the barrel nut is a little longer as well. I know in my handguard i used it just had enough room before it bottomed out inside handguard. If you look at a 556 uppers you can see there is only 1/4 or maybe 3/8” of extra room for a longer barrel nut. Geissele told me it wouldn’t work, but seems to work fine. I told them my handguard is the same one that’s on 18” GFRs non stratomatch. Although i haven’t shot it yet with current handguard i don’t see it being a problem. Locked in fine and plenty of clearance around gas block. Similar clearance as my super hbar .812 556 upper. I guess you probably can’t use a regular upper then for builds. I hope they still sell barrels either way so i have a spare.I removed the barrel nut on mine and the length of the extrusion/threaded portion is much longer than a standard milspec upper.
I imagine that would cause some problems trying to build this without the upper receiver.
I wanted to see if I could have gotten away with installing the SOLGW arca rail on my upper until I figured this out.

If you look up above on 1 of my responses i swapped mine. I swapped from a mk18 arca 16.5” rail to a mk16 16.5” rail and it worked.I wondered if one could swap or the GFR mk16 rail body is proprietary too. It seemed like a pain to produce a different rail body just for the longer barrel nut.
