New Applied Ballistics® Quantum™ APP! - & It's Free!

Yeah, no luck. Running the latest build for AB, Vectors are on their latest build. I've had issues with AB connecting up to my Fortrex as well when I want to push a profile update. Everything seems to be playing nice together except for AB connecting to my devices.

I've started using the app, hoping to find a replacement or Strelok Pro

First impressions are not great, I kind of hate the app tbh. Working on a list of constructive feed back at the moment.

My biggest issue at the moment is I can't get the DSF function to work, I'm using it for 22lr and the solutions it's giving me are not even close.

Is there a video or article that specifically talked about DSF tuning? I'll watch the video about tuning again amd try find out what im doing wrong.

What tier subscription are you on?

What distance are you trying to DSF? You should be 300 yards or further, and space them out. So DSF 1 300 yards, DSF 2 500 yards, DSF 3 700 yards etc.
Standard velocity (subsonic) 22lr, so I have being doing it within 200yards and a spacing of only 30 on yards.
I know a bunch of people who have trued their AB Kestrels this way, so was copying them.

I want a custom profile that is an exact fit up to 250yards, I don't shoot further than that.
What distances would you recommend I true DSF at?

I would do a DSF on Rimfire at 300 yards, 500, and 700 yards. For my 17 HMR I used 250 yards, and 300 yards before I did a PDM for mine. I wouldn't do them inside of 200 yards.

There are a bunch of Youtube videos detailing how various features, including DSF, work. Watch them, because some features probably don't work exactly the way you expect. "Understanding Ballistic Calibration in AB Quantum" gets into DSF, including subsonic/rimfire starting at about 17:45.

I shot my first centerfire match last Saturday using AB Quantum Pro. I'm converted over from Strelok Pro now (and, if you look further up in this thread, you'll see I was skeptical upon trying the free version.).

I'll use ABQ in a rimfire match tomorrow. I've spent the past week and 150+ rounds of Lapua Long Range truing ABQ out to 400 yards, using paper targets at 50, 101, 195, 294, and 399 yards, ranges lased from the target back to a pair of barrels stack on the shooting bench. I had to apply .1 - .3 of correction from the "default" curve at 101/195/294, after which the 399 solution was correct. The was a 2-6mph tailwind mostly from 7 o'clock, so I'll adjust as needed. Fortunately, this lot of LLR I have now is consistent - I chronoed 67 rounds in two different range sessions and got average velocities of 1127 and 1128 and SDs of 5.0 and 5.2, ES of 22 for both (air temps around 90 both times).

DSF for centerfire is a totally different beast than subsonic/rimfire. Watch the videos. I "only" have access to 1000 yards of range; as currently implemented, ABQ won't even let me create a DSF table for my centerfire rifles because it FORCES DSF calibration at 1400+ yards - nothing closer! Maybe I'm misunderstanding / doing something wrong; I'll come back to it sometime next week after the .22 match tomorrow.

In addition to its features, the thing that sold me on ABQ is the SUPPORT for it. Thank you @DocUSMCRetired .

I watched the video again, not sure it clearly spelled it out but I gathered for 22lr you do the bulk of the tuning with MV not DSF.

I’ve changed to Eley now and the app has a CDM for it.
Managed to get it pretty much perfect with just tuning the MV.

Playing around with a few things, it looks like you want to tune close range with MV and then longer distance with DSF. Tuning with DSF at close range through things way out at distance, so I think that was my issue before.

If I were to shoot a bullet that didn’t have a custom drag model (such as Eley Club, STD etc) how would you tune it?
Mess around with both the BC and MV for close distance, then DSF out far? Or take MV from my Garmin and just tune BC at close range?

Why are there so many different PDMs for a single bullet, and how do I know which one to use?

168gr SMK seems to have 5 different options.

P=Personal, are as many as there are individuals who fired them across AB's mobile lab setup. While it can provide some interesting info they are only meant to be used by the individual who fired it.

The CDM are the ones to use.

Cheers!

That makes more sense, I found the correct one now.

Anyone else get the update to add folders to the Profiles? I added in some firearms, anout 5, now I cant scroll through to pick profiles to send to my new group.

Hope Russia takes all of the Ukraine. There was zero reason to f with Strelok
Or Sniper Calculator. Very simplistic and quick.

My favorite. Best $10 I ever spent on shooting.

Some of these new "free" calculators are nothing but click bait. In fact I think the free version of sniper calculator is preferable to all the new licensed (extortion) programs "free" samples since it doesn't clog your space or time sorting through crap like dealing with a Damned used car salesman.

I don't want to lease things I intend to run long term, I buy them .

And if I can't I ditch them.

And on a side note "F Microsoft" for starting this rental extortion 🐂 shit in the first place.

How would you deplorables like to rent some bullets? Ok that's silly how about some Lapua brass.

That's right we will lease you some first quality brass for 25 cents a round per month till you return it .

Some of the high end reloading equipment is getting very pricey.
Let's tie the operation of it to the Internet and lease that as well.

It is getting stupid these days and the sheep are marching in step till each pasture is ruined.

AB has been money damn well spent, for me. Yesterday, I finished a load for my 6.5 prc hunting rifle. With 3 tags in hand for the second fastest land animal in the world and hunting on open ground that can be very hard to get close to them, I was feeling the pressure to wrap it up.

With high confidence in AB from 10 years of use, I made a nice custom waterproof turret label complete with warm 70° day and a 32°f day delta for 7200’ elevation. White with large letters makes it easy to read with my one aging eyeball.

I went to the range, confirmed cold bore zero, then proceeded to make 1st round hits out to 800 yards on 9”x9” steel in 11 mph winds using my turret and the AB Kestrel for wind.

I could not be happier.

For the record I had “Elite” level because they grandfathered me in as an original AB app owner. Last month I upgraded my 5700x Kestrel to Wez and now I get “Pro” level in perpetuity included. I believe the Kestrel has to be hooked up to the app every 30 days or so to keep that act active.

Burt, capitalist to capitalist explain to me why you are “entitled” to free shit again?

Fuch subscriptions. I’d rather pay $50 once than $20 every year.

Renting is for suckers

Ahh
Tell me more about capitalism and how the app I paid for. I can no longer get on my phone.
I know ab wouldn’t. But In our crony capitalism organized crime oligarchy. Companies sure as f will pay politicians to have their competitors marginalized.

You don't have to subscribe to AB Pro to unlock it. You either pay a one time $300 fee, or buy a Kestrel 5700 elite or a garmin AB elite. Either of those is a one time fee. The monthly subscription cost is to unlock Pro which isn't required to go past 900 yards, just elite. If you want the WEZ, you can get a Kestrel 5700 WEZ and only pay that price once instead of the monthly fee too.

How about a $9k mars or $6000 maztech?

Maztech not at the moment, Mars units already pair up on AB Quantum. The app will follow the license level of a device. If its Ultralite, the app will stay Ultralite. If its Elite the app will bump up while its active.

Also to add to that, this is how we keep the library updating constantly. This isn't a one and done app that doesn't get new features or change for over a decade and look like its stuck in basic android drag and drop. We just added another 30 bullets to our now 3000+ bullet strong library. What we didn't announce is the updates to bullets we also performed.

We have more rimfire coming.

We are currently undergoing a now two year study on air rifles and how to define their flight properly. This is planned for a future implementation.

R&D: Some innovate, others imitate.

No idea about the Mars, but the Maztech isn't included in ABQ yet, sadly. But the Tango includes Elite and you would get all of the functionality of that license level. Once the Maztech is pulled into ABQ I imagine it will be Elite as well. Just like the VectorX is.

Here is a screenshot of one of my Tango units in ABQ and it clearly shows the Elite license. The VectorX shows the same thing. As does my Garmin Tactix 8 Elite and my Garmin Foretrex 901 and my Kestrel 5700x. Any of these devices will give you the Elite license and is a 1 time purchase, not a monthly/yearly subscription.
