I really love Maine. Lobsterfest, blueberry pie, the lakes, coast, Scandinavian-type summer, nice people. My problem is, there is not a whiter and greener (as in forests) state to move to. I hate this states politics and economy but I love the land and many of the people including family and friends...
Wife and I have talked about moving but wouldn't know where to go.
Portland is easy to avoid for those of us in the mid and northern part of the state, but Bangor is also a shithole. Just a smaller more tolerable one. The only good part about where I live now is I can drive less than 10 minutes and be in rural peace.I really love Maine. But then there are the druggies, hippies, leftists, and leeches on society who infect Portland.
Kids are very impressionable and can get off the conservative path very quickly in their teens with all the bad influences that show up in schools and social crowds there. I saw it ruin several lives, including one acquaintance who I heard later OD’d on heroin. He spent years taking LSD prior to that, in large doses, had dreads, no personal hygiene, and very delayed responses.
AZ isn’t far behind.Lots of people have done it especially retirees.
I went from CA to AZ and after a couple years I miss my old part of cali a lot. It was up north about an hour from Tahoe. It sucks that the most beautiful state in the union fell to democrats.
I dont remember if it was Portland, or Seattle, but one of them proposed an new law requiring every new home to allow a 10' strip in front of it for the homeless to camp on.Portland is easy to avoid for those of us in the mid and northern part of the state, but Bangor is also a shithole. Part of our issue the current housing prices are absolutely insane. Everything is at least double what it's worth. Really hoping the housing market falls flat on its face soon. If we had our own place we would be much much better off.
I mention the state being on of the Whitest but the reality is I'm seeing foreigner ESLs everywhere in the Bangor area now. How? Why? There is nothing for anyone here and zero reason for anyone, even from another state to come here unless they're doing it only because the state is still over 90% White and something around 90% forested.
It really is. My thought when I visited was "the pictures dont do it justice."I was just telling my kids the other day how you can taste the colors of the trees changing in fall with your eyes. Maine is the most amazing place I’ve seen for the fall, hands-down. I spent a lot of time in this harbor in the park and shops, walking around, climbing Mount Battie, and just getting real familiar with the area by walking everywhere for a summer, fall, and winter.

10 inches? That isn't too bad other than the implication and government overreach.I dont remember if it was Portland, or Seattle, but one of them proposed an new law requiring every new home to allow a 10" strip in front of it for the homeless to camp on.

It's not just the democrats. Have you been paying attention to Texas politics lately?I'm in Texas ,the Democrats are trying real hard to flip us blue..
I don't know why, but a LTC permit seems to be a "get out of a ticket" permit in Texas. My wife drives like a maniac, and I've been in the car with her driving 10mph+ over the speed limit and getting stopped. The cop just looks at the LTC card, verifies that it's hers, and hands it back to her with a "please slow down" type of warning. A couple of times, she even got into a short conversation with them over guns when they discovered she was a LTC instructor. Hey, don't get me wrong. We appreciate the heck out of the free pass.I was driving home from an event in Texas and got stopped for being a bit over the limit late at night. Handed the cop my Oklahoma CCW saying "Most important thing first." We had a nice discussion on shooting, he was surprised when I told him I had just come from shooting to a mile. Handed my licsense back with his card and said "Have a safe trip."
Where in Hellinois? I grew up and still have all my family near Rockford. Wife and I have contemplated moving to the southern WI sticks to be closer to familyIllinois resident here - I wake up every morning and think about moving to one of these states - Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee, and Florida.
Only family we have is here and I can see how it’s helping shape my child’s mind. Maybe when the kids grow up and go to college, I’ll be out of here.
Be ready for some cough cough, Ahem....cultural adjustment.WA to MS. Can’t hardly move from a deeper blue to a brighter, red than that.
My bad, 10 feet.10 inches? That isn't too bad other than the implication and government overreach.

Amish can get out of control in some areas down there.Be ready for some cough cough, Ahem....cultural adjustment.
Amish come in a variety of colors, exactly but that wasnt my point. It's almost a different way of life, or used to be. I reckon with the internet and mass communications much has been homoginized.Amish can get out of control in some areas down there.
