Suppressors Covers

The HTP line from Cole-Tac is awesome. The supplemental heat wrap not only keeps the outside cover cool ... it also grips the suppressor really well and allows the Velcro straps to hold everything in place. It's just the best suppressor cover available today ... IMHO.

Same here

Can Chaps ROCK! There is one downside, however. Mainly aesthetic.

If you use the same can on different guns, the “clocking” position of the metal clasps will change due to the unknowns of each barrel’s threading.

If you have a bigger gap where the edges meet, then perhaps more mirage will occur? Mine is tight, so no ill effects seem to happen.

That Ferox cover looks like a horse blanket or something.

Rifles Only HAD cover is excellent. Have a couple on cans and about to order a third for a new can. Once it’s on it’s not moving or falling off and can take a lot of heat. You can run a Skinny if just for bolt gun use also. Have one on a Nomad for my bolt guns.

How does the Can chaps handle mirage? I have a custom one like the Cole tac that has the extra thermal sleeve and it’s pretty decent. *Get the Cord if you want to prevent the cover from sliding around

Mine seems at least as good as my two Precision Underground covers with mirage. The great thing about the Can Chaps is they can stay on forever and do not slide around or fall down, even if you jam your gun with can into a tight rifle case. (Edit: to be clear, my PU covers never go forward, off the rifle, but they do sag down/back if the gun is vertical, butt down)

Also, Can Chaps are sticky enough that you can screw the can/off with the cover attached. After a slightly fussy install (repeatedly adjusting the buckles in minute amounts for a tight fit) I just don’t have to mess with the cover, ever again.

IMHO, if you are the type that likes to pull your cover back to let the can cool faster, Can Chaps are not for you. They are “set it and forget it”. If you like pulling the cover back, then in this way the PU covers are superior.

Btw if you want an inexpensive cover that actually works and doesn’t burn up, try the Weka cover from New Zealand. Note that I am not Mr. Full-Auto Mag Dump, nor am I Mr. Semi-Auto Mag Dump either. Mainly a bolt gun guy.

They are $24 each and I like my two. Not quite as good with mirage…depending on conditions they are somewhere between 80%-100% as good as the Can Chaps, hard to exactly tell as I have done no side-by-side tests. Suffice to say I was pleased by their performance but noted that maybe in still conditions they might be a little worse than the Can Chaps.

Pdog shooting in the strong ND prairie wind made them indistinguishable in anti-mirage performance from the Can Chapified gun+can that I was also shooting with at the same time.

Not classy as you have to trim it yourself and it’s doubtful you’ll get a perfect cut, but they are very light and low profile. They also don’t really move once installed, and you can spin on the can while they are attached.

They can sometimes roll or banana peel down a little when stuffing the gun+can into a tight rifle case. No problem, just roll it back down.

But $24.

P.S. use a liberal amount of hand sanitizer to install, otherwise you’ll want to kill yourself. The sanitizer evaporates.

I've got 1 ea of can chaps, AG, and burn proof gear. BPG is probably my favorite for set/forget cover but they are expensive. AG works and is easy to slide back off to let your can cool faster if you want but they can slide around a bit if touched or going in/out of cases. Can chaps are a nice product too and stay put very well but they aren't the lightest and aren't a convenient slide back for letting the can cool. Those LS wild covers seem nice for lightweight hunting rifle that isn't going to get shot in many longer strings.

Anyone have experience with the Liberty Defense Suppressor Cover?

Liberty Defense Suppressor Cover

Thanks,

T
I purchased one after reading great reviews for it.
In my opinion its overpriced for how it handles the mirage and heat. The cable system is annoying and the fiberglass material, or whatever they use, gives you splinters. Plus it moves around too much. But, I am using a HUXWRX Flow 7.62 so maybe its because of the flow design that its not optimal for the cover.

reasonably priced custom made covers with quick turnaround -- examples

you can specify base, border, strap and velcro colors and his nomex inner sleeve option really cuts mirage.
- recently available colors here

i've got three from him.
I have 2 of these. He used to be on here, and the Form 1 board as well. No complaints from me, and the covers were specified for 2 of my Form 1 cans.

The Liberty one always reminds me of a trucker’s ratty teddy bear fastened upon his rig’s grill.

Like something out of the old Mad Max movies (not the stupid modern ones).

For the money, Can Chaps for bolt guns and Cole Tac Corset for gas guns. I've run the HTP and it slips. But the corset model has stayed on no problem with a 308 and a Huxwrx Flow 762 which has a smooth barrel which enables covers to slide forward more easily.

The Can Chaps inner layer has a serious coefficient of friction, almost a tack to it, which makes it "stick" to the suppressor and keeps it from moving along with the straps.

I have a Burn Proof (overpriced and flimsy top cover for what it is) that does ok. Skip Armageddon Gear altogether. It took two mags of semi auto to set it on fire. Literally.

Techflex makes a high heat insulator (Burnproof actually uses this as an inner layer) that I use for an automotive product I sell that sits next to turbos, headers, etc...and it works really well. I buy big spools of it in the 1" size but you can get sections and use it as an inner layer for further insulation. It expands so you'll have to experiment a bit with the length (it shortens as it expands). The 1" size will fit around the Hux 762Ti no problem.

Techflex Insotherm

i went down this rabbit whole a while ago, from my race car days i knew there had to be something out there that doesnt cost $100+.

started researching fireproof wire/tube covers, turbo blankets and carbon fiber tubes.

ended up with fireproof aircraft line cover that is fiberglass inside with silicone outside - works likes a charm but is bright orange/red

Didn’t see any colors. Is that just athletic tape on the outside? And it doesn’t slide at all in use?

Gaffers tape hides the bright silicon color.

the cover is 1.5" as is my suppressor. It was very snug at first, over several heat cycles (6 months) it has started to slide, i recently added a velco belt to tighten to the suppressor, no more slide

I’ve used quite a few on the market these days: LD as mentioned, BPG, Rauch, ColeTac, and the Mechanix Wear (actually fine for a bolt application). My current recommendation for best bang for your buck is Sukon Performance, made by some great SF dudes out west. I do have a 10% affiliate code ForwardAssist , but I would recommend these regardless. They have a light and a heavy fire rate option. View attachment IMG_9428.jpegView attachment IMG_9964.jpeg
