Speaking of imported diversity... somewhere near the border of Sudan and Central African Republic:

"Good day, fellow African people!"

It's like "Where's Waldo: Cracker Edition".

Dipshit in green sure has nice hair!
Holy shit…I think I’ve been there!

Used to run TALCE (now AMOG) teams all over that area back between 2006-2012 supporting nation building or “security assistance” and “cooperative training” operations…or whatever the hell they’re calling it these days. We did all the airfield surveys, and then ran the temporary air heads for larger training missions…usually joint/international exercises, etc. but occasionally supported actual work by other folks.

Edit: pic thread rules:

How to run $400 in connectors and antenna on a $40 radio! LoL

Believe it or not, I recall an episode of the TV series "Emergency!" that addressed the above issue, of all things. Johnny & Roy were having trouble with the Squad vehicle. And, of all people, Dr. Joe Early (played by Bobby Troup) to the rescue. He says to Johnny/Roy, "Sounds like your <devices> are closed. Ya mind if I take a look?" Within a minute or two and the help of a screw driver, he got it fixed and the vechicle started perfectly. Fitting for this episode as this was the one where they diagnosed Dr. Early with significant Coronary Artery blockages and needed surgery (angioplasty) to get them cleaned out. Oddly enough, Nick Nolte played one of the cardiologists.

Question: What actually causes them to "close?"

There's a cam lobe on the distributor shaft.
Based on the distributor position (timing) in relation to the camshaft, rotation, the gears on the cam and the distributor allow the distributor shaft to rotate. Thus, opening and closing the "Them."

I guess what I was asking was, "What causes them to stay permanently 'closed' and requiring manual intervention to get them open again (to where they open/close with the cam shaft rotation)?

Back in high school a neighbors camero konked out

It's a very used car and the distributor could be turned by hand. The bolt has broken off and about 1 thread was left.

When you install the points, you have to set the gap and tighten the points once correct.

I have not worked on points since 1985/1986.

If not tightened enough, they cannslip

Not a common thing

Dad had the curved wrench to get around the distributor onto the bolt.

If you did not have that specific tool, it's harder to get onto the bolt to torque it down

I felt bad getting rid of the old timing light but it had been in a drawer for almost 40 years.

NO such car as a Camero, doesn't fk'n exist.

Chevrolet Camaro

Yeppers… When I was a very young kid, I almost felt bad about killing and eating cattle for a bit until I had to start working with them. Dumb as shit…I began calling them walking potatoes. If there was a way to get into trouble and try to kill themselves or me through utter (udder? LoL) stupidity, they always found it.

Pic thread rules, and related: Just added carrots to tonight’s dinner.

Well, whatever assistance you guys did to help the local government of CAR didn't exactly work LOL. The FACA and other land pirate groups are pillaging villages, killing all the men and male children then raping all the women, etc. Needs more wrath of God + Vald the Impaler action against these "rebel" groups terrorizing these little communities just trying to survive.

Yeah, it was a shit show back then, and I’m sure it’s even worse now with the further spread of that peaceful religion throughout the region. I remember them coming up to the back of our planes, and the look of awe on their faces when the back ramp opened up and all that cold air came pouring out and turned to clouds as it mixed with the hot humid air.

They may as well been staring at a spaceship for all their comprehension of what they were looking at.

Especially cool at night with the red lights in the cargo compartment backlighting everything…looked like a smoke machine at a rock concert! LoL

Pic thread rules: Can’t find any pics of my African adventures right now, but here’s one from Iraq

What's with the crock-pot condom, sir? You cook your roast in plastic?

All due respect, would rather clean the slow cooker than ingest melted, made in China, melted microplastics. Flame away, but remember when they poisoned *their own babies* to make a buck on their baby formula...
