Maggie’s Motivational Pic Thread v2.0 - - New Rules - See Post #1

Yeppers… When I was a very young kid, I almost felt bad about killing and eating cattle for a bit until I had to start working with them. Dumb as shit…I began calling them walking potatoes. If there was a way to get into trouble and try to kill themselves or me through utter (udder? LoL) stupidity, they always found it.

Pic thread rules, and related: Just added carrots to tonight’s dinner.

Back in high school a neighbors camero konked out

It's a very used car and the distributor could be turned by hand. The bolt has broken off and about 1 thread was left.

When you install the points, you have to set the gap and tighten the points once correct.

I have not worked on points since 1985/1986.

If not tightened enough, they cannslip

Not a common thing

Dad had the curved wrench to get around the distributor onto the bolt.

If you did not have that specific tool, it's harder to get onto the bolt to torque it down

I felt bad getting rid of the old timing light but it had been in a drawer for almost 40 years.
I still have my timing light, tach dwell meter, wrenches for timing bolt, the Allen wrench on a flexible shaft to adjust dwell on Chevy distributers. I sold my distributor machine. Really wish I hadn't, but I don't work on the old EFI 450SL/ SELs anymore. The distributor had 4 sets of points, two for the ignition and two for the injection. The only way to set them up is to remove the distributor and do them one at a time.

What could possibly go wrong?

I am guessing it was the late 60's and the early incarnation of them. There was a small airport 2 blocks from my parents house, we rode bikes there and watched planes. We could ride right out onto the aprons around the hangars. I remember those things trying to get off the ground. I also remember a couple of deaths when they did finally "fly". I guess what I was asking was, "What causes them to stay permanently 'closed' and requiring manual intervention to get them open again (to where they open/close with the cam shaft rotation)?
A common thing to happen was the phenolic block on the points that rides the distributor cam wears down thus closing the points gap. They used to provide a tiny capsule of grease to put on the block to prevent the wear. More commonly, in points failure, was the contacts would pit and wear or a screw would come loose a the points would move out of adjustment.
Once, on an old Datsun pickup, the pivot arm on the points cracked. The truck would start and idle fine, but try to accelerate and the truck would stall. As the distributor would advance, the crack in the points would widen and kill the spark.

What's with the crock-pot condom, sir? You cook your roast in plastic?

All due respect, would rather clean the slow cooker than ingest melted, made in China, melted microplastics. Flame away, but remember when they poisoned *their own babies* to make a buck on their baby formula...

My wife just said “Fair points, but I’m not working all day and coming home to clean that mess up too. Tell them that until they show up with their scrub brushes in hand they can just enjoy the meal before them and STFU!”

Maximum effort

Rinse the crock pot out

Fill with hot water

Add 1 dishwasher tablet

Set on high for 3-4 hours or low overnight

Turn off and let cool

The dishwasher detergent gets the crock pot clean

Rinse out and store away

And now a clip
