I had been doing research and planning on my M77 build when my plans hit a bump. After attending a local Friends of NRA event, friend put a bug in my ear about an Armalite Ar50a1. Should have it in my grubby little hands by middle of April. Can't wait.

I've read reviews discounting the "recommended" Prince bipod due to poor fit, lack of panning ability and mobility/adaptation. So, I'm still looking for further options and still searching glass. Maybe it's just my bad luck at site searching, but when I tried looking for info on the rifle I got a crap old of responses about targets, lol.

Would appreciate any feedback on personal experiences with yours. I had a chance for a Barrett M99 for $2800, but went with the Armalite.

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

I have one. I have the APA bi-pod and rear mono-pod. Good strong bi-pod.

Checkout AR15.com under the Armory tab then 50cal forum. Lot of info there.

Also very helpful guys on FCSA.org (fifty caliber shooters ass.)

Thanks Outlaw. I hadn't heard of the FCSA site before. I went by to take a look at the rifle again today, lol....damn it's tall. It was sitting next to the M99. Thanks for the pod recommendations too. What kind of case you carrying it in? How's your experience been with the 50?

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

I have a pelican 1750 but you have to take the buttstock off. I also have a softcase like the one Armalite sells on their website. I got mine from Bagmaster.com. It's called the heavy weapons case 62". The whole gun fits in it.

No experience with the M99. Went with the AR50 because I heard it was more accurate than the Barrett.

I joined the FCSA.org. It was worth the membership fee. They have a helpful forum also.

Yeah, I had heard something similar on the Armalite along with I didn't see one everywhere. I'll be going that other site as a paid member in about two weeks. Thanks for the soft case. I'll look into it. What cleaning kit you utilizing?

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

Just saw the case, not bad....probably order Monday. Any firing issues or needs to contact manufacturer?

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

I also own a AR50A1. I really like it. I've only ran it out to 700 yards, but I was doing 4-5in groups with light fading away the first time out. I have the Prince bipod, but usually shoot off bags. I like the look of the Prince, reminds me of a M60, but it needs a better way to secure it to the rifle. Even the APA bipod my uncle has will loosen and slide by the end of the day.

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

I use the Tipton 50bmg carbon fiber cleaning rod. It's around 60in long and works without removing anything from the rifle. The trigger is also a Rem 700 Shillen. I adjusted mine down to 2lbs.

Very nice. I'll look for that rod. Did you send your rifle back for the adjustment? I read that messing with the trigger would void warranty.

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

No, I adjusted it myself with a very small allen wrench. There isn't any epoxy on the screws so Armalite wouldn't be able to tell if the trigger had been changed anyway. I think it came set at about 3.5lbs.

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

Cool. I'll look into t, thanks. I'm doing as much reading as possible to get ''up to speed'' on the Armalite. Damn I'm lucky my wife is into this rifle. Waiting to shed a compound bow for more fun bucks towards my 7mm project too, lol.

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

Man, if my .338 wasn't so damn expensive to shoot, I would be all over one of these. Have alway's wanted another 50. Now go get her dirty!!!

Re: Putting my deposit down Wednesday......

Have to do our annual qualifying for my PD in early May, hoping to have glass and bipod in by then. Maybe I can convince the Chief to let me carry? Lol......I'm looking into reloading too, found some 660 FMJ Federal Eagle for 2 bucks a round compared to other places that were selling it for 3.40 each.

I really want a 338 also, but have to finish my 7mm project first. Should be ordering the Krieger barrel and McMillan(sp?) Stock next month.
