What do you guys consider a practical trigger pull weight? I met a guy the other day that had a rebarreled rem 700 with a 2.5 ounce trigger. I don't see that being practical anywhere but in bench rest. What do yo consider optimal for a varmint gun?

Re: Trigger pull weight

I like 1lb for a varmint gun.
I use the 2oz triggers for bench rest.

Re: Trigger pull weight

2.5-3lbs for a rifle used in field or stressful competition conditions, and/or with gloved, cold, wet, or otherwise desensitized fingers. You want the pull to be deliberate, if only barely.
Managed to miss the end of your question, for varmints from a stationary set up without being frozen or gloved you could go a little lighter, I like mine at about 2.75 for everything, never feel like I'm off because of it.

Re: Trigger pull weight

all mine are set at 1 3/4 lbs....I've just gotten used to that pull weight and am fond of it.

Re: Trigger pull weight

1 1/5lbs here for most guns. Good trigger control and it really don't matter how heavy as long as it's crisp.

Re: Trigger pull weight

2.5 lbs is practical. Half a pound makes shooting easy. Two stage triggers are the best of both worlds.

Re: Trigger pull weight

I use 3.5 lbs, but I'm one of the cold, wet, desensitized, types.
