picking up a savage --most likely the tr- keep bouncing between that and the bv-- want to closely replicate my m70 hunting rifles-- but love the tac look---
My current scopes are 3-9x40 nikon primos's and a Kahles MZ 3-9x40..

what would you guys recommend under 200.00--- more power for the tiny holes?? thanks yall

Re: scope for Savage mkII TR

Bushnell 10x40 mil/mil, or put another $100 and get the Weaver 3-10x40 mil/mil from MidwayUSA.

Re: scope for Savage mkII TR

SWFA 10x going on the wife's TR, soon as it gets back from the paint shop.

She shot 200 meter on 1/2 scale pistol silhouettes with a Sightron 3-9 on a 510 Targetmaster

Have a 16x on my Kimber 82G. MORE than enough to get to 300 yards

Hope this helps.

Re: scope for Savage mkII TR

Mueller APT , i have three and they are the best scope for the money . Clear all the way up to 14 power.

I paid 161.00 each for the Mueller APT

Re: scope for Savage mkII TR

From what I've read over the past year the Mueller APT seem to be THE budget scope for .22 trainers with a couple Weaver and Vortex Crossfire models being close behind. If I didn't have a Vortex Viper sitting in the safe all lonely I'd be getting a Mueller.

Re: scope for Savage mkII TR

FWIW, I just purchased the same rifle and I went with a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x14x40. I think it is very nice. Parallax only goes down to 50 per the dial, but I think its more like 35 yds. The APT is nice also, I just wanted side focus to make it more like its big brother, Savage 12 LRP with Bushnell Elite scope

Re: scope for Savage mkII TR

so I DID get the TR --= for now I put the kahles on it-- going to shoot it this weekend---

my only experience is with non target scopes all except the kahles have a bdc---

do any of these scopes-- buckmaster...mueller have target style with resetable zero?? (I am A noob with this stuff)--
thanks yall--
If i up the budget to 400--is there a big jump in what I can get?
the bsa sweet 22 even worth 60.00? (im scared of that man)

Re: scope for Savage mkII TR

While the BSA Sweet 22 & 17 are definitely low end, and sold at big box stores, I was surprised to read many good reviews on it. If it's all you can afford it's probably a good choice but there are better options under $200

Re: scope for Savage mkII TR

I put a cheap BSA Contender 4-16x40 on my TR - mainly based on price and cool look of the knobs & ridges. http://www.bsaoptics.com/scope.aspx?productID=335#divReview
The first one was DOA - returned immediately to Bass Pro Shop & they replaced w/o hassle of returning to BSA. The second one has worked fine so far (YMMV). Does have a lifetime warranty.

Optics are only OK, does the job for 50-200 yards, but nowhere close to the Sightron on my .223. The 1/8MOA knobs look good but are a bit mushy, and the dial markings are down right bizarre: 8 clicks to "2", 16 clicks to "4", etc. - makes it hard to keep track of where you are.

I'll probably upgrade at some point. FYI.
