Hello everyone,

I've got some .22 sabot for .308 case and I wonder if someone here have some loads for this. Ideally, i'm searching some loads in N540, N140 or at least RE-15.

Thanks in advance

Re: Loads for .308 with .22 sabots

I worked up a load with 62g fmj bullets in the gray plastic sabots and 308 Winchester cartridge. First let me say, don't waste your time. The faster you push them the larger your group gets (I could say pattern). I started with 41g H322 and got 3150fps then worked up to 3600fps with 45.8g H322 which filled the case and was not near max pressure (need faster powder). Max pressure I think would put them out the barrel at 3900fps. One other thing to know is when you work up this load your chronograph takes a beating. If the bullet leaves the sabot before the sky screen you get error codes and sometimes the sabot hits the chronograph. I thought of putting the chrono out at 100 yards but the accuracy of the bullet is so poor at higher velocity it would have been the end of it. This test was made using a Rem 700 26" barrel 1-12" twist.

Extra info: I put a light crimp on them, 1/3 turn on the die. I found out early that velocity variables were present and a crimp helped a lot. Just enough crimp, if the fingers on the sabot lift off the bullet the crimp is too tight.

One other thing, maybe accuracy would improve with a faster twist barrel. The holes were not key holes with the 1-12 twist.
