Hello, to start off with I don’t have any experience to pistol shooting so take what I am saying to what its worth which is not much, I guess I have watched to many movies but I have always wanted to get a Beretta M9 I am looking to get it in a month or so and I wanted to trick it out a bit when I get it, I want to bring it to a competition level, I expect to run all types of ammo through it, mostly 115 FMJ but I also run 124 JHP +p+ for self-defense, I’ll be using it mostly to put a bunch of rounds down range to start learn how to shoot but still use it for home defense and ccw.

This is the parts list that I have come up with so far to trick one out:

Standard Berretta M9A1

Sprinco Recoil Management Guide Rod System http://www.sprinco.com/recoil.html

Low Mass Trigger http://www.midwayusa.com/product/332667/...el-in-the-white

30 round magazine http://www.midwayusa.com/product/677791/...ound-steel-blue

AAC Evolution 9mm http://www.advanced-armament.com/product.aspx?pid=199

Threaded KKM Precision Barrel http://www.kkmprecision.com/custom_pistol_barrels/product.php?productid=100&cat=3&page=1

I was wondering if those KKM Barrels are worth getting If any one used them and noticed a significant difference in accuracy?

I was hoping to hear from others on ways to upgraded a beretta 92 to make it higher end, I can do some machining on it but by no means am I a gun smith and would like to do mostly drop in parts on it.

I thought I would say just to avoid a bunch of these comments, a glock 34 is next on my list and I don’t much like 1911’s

thanks for your time!

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

I would say before you drop butt loads of money into all of these upgrades you should learn to shoot the pistol stock. After shooting it you may find out that you don't like something about it (ergonomics, trigger, etc).

The time and money spent on ammo and range time getting to know the M9 will be far more helpful in the long run than any upgrades especially since you want this for home defense/CCW with no pistol shooting experience.

Just my $.02 Good luck though!

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

I'm with VTGunner.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I don’t have any experience to pistol shooting</div></div>

Meaning you don't know what you want.

Take all that money plan on spending on gimmicks and put them into rounds down range.

Learn to shoot right and left handed.

I have a stock 92FS that I use in several different types of competition. I will admit I did paint the front dot (sight) with orange florent paint. That color just seems to grab my eyes.

I found the 92 is extremely reliable and a lot more accurate then I am.

Its the first 9mm I have been able to load cast bullets for without jumping through hoops.

Nothing beats rounds down range to learn to shoot a pistol.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

This may be the one mod you do need right off the bat, I did:

http://www.berettausa.com/products/sightrear-adjwhite-dot92/96/e00169/

Really tightened up my groups at 20 yrds. They've gotten cheaper too, 5 years ago they were nearly $100.00. I beat mine on with a punch & hammer, but I should've used a proper tool.....

But the others gave wise advise. Nothing can substitue range time. Put your money towards ammo/mags. I only use Beretta or MecGar mags, don't trust ProMag. Although I've got a few of their 32rd. mags saved up NIB, Beretta used to not make 'em.....those are ONLY for range/plinking.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

All good advice.

The only money I would put into an M9 is a Wilson Combat spring tune kit, it replaces all the springs in the pistol with quality aftermarket springs, when I did mine it was about $15. that is it, save the rest of your money. And the threaded barrel once you have the can, but you will not likely outshoot the factory barrel in the mean time.

Then, I would buy a couple bricks of ammo and get to know it. research some practical courses of fire and wear it out.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

take it for it's worth but I used a Beretta to make top 20 in the P100. If you are not going to shoot competition bullseye you will not see the difference in any of those mods.
I have two 92fs', one is fully tricked by Tony Kidd and the other is mod'd by a buddy with KKM barrel, good trigger job, adjustable rear sight. They shoot almost identical at 25 yards. I have cleaned a 25 yard timed fire target with a stock 92f, they shoot just fine at 25 with good fundamentals applied.
By far the best money spent is on the trigger because the factory setups are pretty sad compared to what a gunsmith can do. Dave Salyer in South Carolina is known for his work and I highly recommend him.
just get a good trigger job, both of mine have factory parts, and spend the other money on a Beretta .22 conversion or 9mm ammo and learn how to shoot a group.
If you find you like shooting pistol and want to chase EIC points then get it fully worked over.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

My thinking was to have it set up high end to begin with to give me the comfidence in the pistol as being off the bat higly accuret and then build up my skil level to match it, I have put a couple round down range with one of my co-workers beretta 92's and i liked how it fit into my hands so i am confident that ill like the pistol if not i am keeping it till it breaks anyway, and also included in my budget was 5k rounds of ammo, and finding local pistol classes to start learning the basics.

thanks for all your input so far, I understand that what is being stressed is range time and building experiance!

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

I am curious but this may be a bit over the top too, how do you like those reflex/holographic sights on pistols, accuracy, performance, functionality?

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

OP:

Some real advice:
1) Step away from the Tactical Ninja Gun Accessory internet site.
2) Refrain from upgrading anything.
3) Buy five addition OEM 15rd mags (no 30rdrs)
4) Take all the money you were going to spend on all that ninja shit; spend half on ammo and half on reloading equipment and range fees.
5) Shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, change springs as needed, shoot, shoot, shoot.... When you're not shooting, dryfire.

A stock Beretta can take you to Master Class.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

"touché", you've got me spot on MR. i will heed your advice and stick to a stock M9 and forget ninjaing up the pistol and get a glock 34, extra mags, and 5k rounds to start with, thanks for your input!

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

best upgrade to a beretta 92 is part number "glock17"

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

If you are going to get a Beretta, then this is the guy to make it shoot. David Sams was one of the guys to build the USAMU beretta 92 and take it to Camp Perry, He is a very talented Gunsmith. Other than that get an ugly glock put some sights on it and go shoot. Glock 17 or 19 are what work for me.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

When i had a 92 the best mod i did was the 1911 trigger spring, changed stock da pull to about 9 lbs, sa to 4. As for magazines Mecgar makes the best and you can get a flush 18 round

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

There is a member at the Beretta Forrum named WAL - he can install barrel bushings on your Beretta uppers. To accurize it more.

However - the "D" spring and hogue grip panels (not the wrap around kind) are the best upgrade to the Beretta 92. I have them on all 9 of mine. And, I have a few skeletonized hammers installed - but that's just for show.

The D spring brings the DA pull to just over 8lbs and the SA pull to about 4.5 lbs. HUGE difference!

Ok its time for an "Intervention"....Just Kidding....... Very nice collection of Berettas.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

First, I scoffed at this pistol until I fired one.

Second, You are way ahead, and always will be, because you chose based on fit. Your instincts guided you and you listened to them.

Fit has to happen first. Using correct fundamental technique will allow you to fire anything well. Combining fit and correct fundamental technique will allow you to fire the gun that fits superior to the gun that does not fit your hand.

Cwillits: how'd you get that nice gloss?

Congratulations on your instincts. Welcome to the club.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

I had a 92 for a while and have a 96FS now. Carried the 96 as a duty pistol for a while and it never let me down. Having said that, the best upgrade for a 92 or 96 is a G23 Glock. Still have my 96 and one 1911 but, also have three Glocks, G34, G23 & G21. I carry the G23 over all else.

Re: Beretta 92 upgrades?

Instead of making useless "Buy a Glock" posts just save the server space and be quiet. If he was interested in that kind of reply he would've asked what to buy. I'm willing to bet you trolls have either never fired one or shot a USGI pistol with 50k rounds through it with shit maintenance.

The M9 will serve you very well. Get a trigger job and some MecGar or Beretta mags and have fun and shoot the hell out of it. You bought a fine pistol. All the real advice given here pointed you in the right direction.

You'd loose that money, I speak from experience, not from what I read on the web. While the Troll comment is fitting to some, it's not to most. While I still have a 96 and have nothing bad to say about Beretta there are better pistols on the market, IMHO.

Isn’t uncle looking to replace the aging M9?
