Boot's, What are you guys wearing?

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I've got a pair of the new Nike tactical boots. They aren't the most comfortable in the footbed (I haven't tried an insole yet) but they are extremely light weight and comfortable in the other parts of the boot. So far proven to be durable as well. If the footbed was comfortable they may be nearly the perfect light weight desert boot.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Was looking at those, they would be for stomping around the woods pig hunting and classes. The only thing that could make them a bit better, would be if they were water proof.
Any other suggestions. Would like to stay in the $150 range.
Thanks,
Eric

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I have recently started wearing Lowa desert zeypher light weight hot weather. My version is not waterproof, but they make some that are Gore Tex lined.
I like the desert version for the summer, and it's effin hot in Texas in July and August.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I have a pair of Altama's that I like when it's hot but I'm usually wearing a pair of Timberlands(toughest boot on the planet,IMO).

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

5.11 Tactical Trainer, not water proof and look to be discontinued. Always happens when I find a boot I like. They do dry quickly and breath really well. Also, very comfortable right out of the box and seem to hold up well.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I'm wearing Gortex lined Lowa Renegade GTX, and they're the first pair of boots to last me over a year over here. Something two different pairs of China made Danners can't claim on my feet. They're lightweight and very comfortable, but I do use a gel insole inside of them. While I'm in the desert here, I used to live in Ft Myers and I wouldn't hesitate to take them in the bush down there.

Search around and you can find them on sale a lot. Try Amazon's shoe branch endless.com as they run a lot of deals.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

under-armour speed freak, light as running shoes waterproof also

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

+1 on the speed freaks, i love mine

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

5.11 6" Advance Boot. Love mine and great for the price. I don't wear them everyday because I'm not LE/Mil but for work or terrain, they are awesome. I can spend hours on my feet without problems. Easy on/off too with the side zip.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I have been using Converse boots the past couple years and really like them. Worth a look.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Merrell Ridgeline Ventilator. Waterproof, cool when it's hot, warm when it's cool... I love mine.

Now I wear these all the time and I think they're awesome, I just didn't classify them as a light weight, hot weather boot. But again they're very comfortable and definitely worth the look.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

i prefer my old altama jump boots, i forget the model name, but they were as comfortable out the box as the boots i had been wearing 14 hours a day 7 days a week for the 8 months prior to purchasing them. right now, for my recreational stuff i.e. bird hunting in eastern washington and hiking in wester washington all different terrains and weather, i like my vasque boots. not the cheapest, but they are quick drying, water resistant, i've worn them in hot desert and knee deep snow, and my feet were always comfortable.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Another vote for Converse boots. The breath well and feel like your wearing sneakers. I found my last pair on closeout for $50 delivered.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I just ordered some Limmer Ultra Lights today. Carl Limmer has been great to deal with.

Really light and very comfy. Cheap too. Not waterproof though, just resistant.

I second that, on my feet now.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I guess I'm a weirdo for wearing plain boots.

I prefer the Bates USMC-approved pigskin roughout boots. The pigskin (versus standard leather) makes a huge difference in breath-ability (more follicles per square inch). Honestly, I didn't know this when I first bought them, but found out later when I was at SOFIC (and on my third pair), talking to the Bates guy. Light weight, breathe well and super soft soles with good support.

JMTCW...

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Lowa Zepher GTX, light weight and very comfortable. I bought mine at REI on sale. I figured if I didn't like them I could use their return policy. I still own them and they look great, 2 years later!
If it's really hot, I have a pair of Merrell Chemeleons. I know they are not boots but..

These are great! I have the non gore tex for summer and they are very light.

Bates rock!

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

danner combat hikers and danner 652 hikers. I think.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Merrell Sawtooth.
Light. Rigid. Aggressive up or downhill.

NOT waterproof. Feet are waterproof and waterproof boots hold water once they are wet.

I sheep and goat hunt with them in Alaska. All the way into November.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I just picked up a pair of the Lowa Zephyr boots, really fit good. Probably the most comfortable boots I have worn.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Not exactly everyday wear boots and not lightweight but if u spend time in woods summer time in south check out dan's hunting gear. They make a waterproof and snakeproof waist high chap on the muck woody armor snake boot. It is a rubber snake boot. Completely water proof and snake proof toe to hip. If u spend as much time in swamps coon huntin and turkey huntin as i do, it will be best 180 u ever spend. They also make lighter and cooler versions jus not snake proof.

Re: Boot's, What are you guys wearing?

Most comfortable I have ever worn were 5.11 HRT's. I think you can find best deals at LA Police Gear. Free socks at least.

Re: Boot's, What are you guys wearing?

OTB lightweight desert boots are most comfortable and durable boots I have ever owned.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Altama 4157. No padding or nylon. Leather, stiching, and rubber. Made in USA. Pretty light compared to the Wescos and Whites I used to wear. Lighter boot construction and I blow seams. Cactus needles dont get through the leather. 100 is pretty rare where im at and I usually find some shade and relax when its real hot. pretty old school probably somthing better out there, but i wont be buying it.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Converse Desert Tan lace up/side zip. The most comfortable boot I've worn. I use em in Az shooting out in the desert. Almost zero break in. Good stuff.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

I have had a pair of Oakley LSA's for about five months now and they are by far the lightest boot I have ever worn. I have shoes that weigh more. They are not the greatest for carrying a load for miles and miles but for class's comp's and light hunting trips they are great. They do suck in the cold, in January I would just about get frostbite going from the truck to the front door.

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Used to wear Danners because my work provided them, but I found that I'd walk the soles to falling off within 9 months. Have since switched to Belleville boots - http://www.bellevilleshoe.com/

The soles were developed on the lava fields in Hawaii for the military. These boots are comfortable, and they wear like iron. Luckily, work buys these too. They come in XX-Wide also.

In Danners I wore a 10.5 wide. The Belleville's a 10 wide fits perfect.

Re: Boot's, What are you guys wearing?

KEENS

Extremely comfy, lightweight, breathable and some offer water resistance. They wear like iron & definitely worth a look...

Re: Boot's, What are you guy's wearing?

Belleville 1750 or 1700... I get winter weight due to the goretex liner and I never noticed them being any warmer just the goretex keeps water and snow melt out... Your feet will feel wet but it's just the boots get real cool and feet stay dry... I hate side zipper boots and the super Tac boots.. They don't have the purchase and ankle protection a good high lace up has plus eventually those side zippers eat into my ankle as the boot wears out depending how the particular boot wore in. Weight was never an issue even when using steel toes in those models

Re: Boot's, What are you guys wearing?

http://militarybootrepair.com/

Hot weather or anything that isn't temperate, I wear a basic desert boot that gets reworked with the air sole's these guys use. They are tough, work very well on anything not requiring aggressive treads, and are very lightweight, so much so, they weigh less than my Adida's old styled leather tennis shoes.

Anything temperate, Danners. They work for cold, wet, and basic crappy weather. I have been using the services of the above listed site for about 11 years now and have even used them from Afghanistan, when I needed my summer boots repaired at the end of the season while there(I kinda got one of the soles caught on some metal and sliced it across the heel(it was a chasing event, that found me stepping into a pile of metal scrap in the dark that I didn't see) The boots went out Priority, and I had them back in two weeks

Re: Boot's, What are you guys wearing?

OTB desert/jungle hot weather boot has been pretty good..great footbead and ankle support. dont think ill be going back to desert arcadias again.

Couldn’t agree any more. Super, super lite. comfy. And had remarkable customer service...at least they did when they were independent.
I still have a fresh pair of deserts in box, in case they get discontinued
