XLR Chassis Stock

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Which would you rather?
Kyle spend all day replying to "how far out is my chassis?" calls & emails, or Kyle spending all day BUILDING chassis for customers?

I've always thought that great customer service was something of a two way street. Be a great customer, and you'll get great service
wink.gif

Just be patient, and don't break ballz. If 12 weeks translates into 14, so be it. It's not like Kyle is sippin' pina coladas in a hammock somewhere. Every chassis he finishes means he is one chassis closer to fulfilling your order. So chill out and wait for the call, like all the rest of us are.

Then post a pic up of your stick when it's mounted up!

You are 100% right, I got mine and these things are worth the wait. People have a hard time waiting for anything anymore.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Spot on. I have another two weeks for the XLR chassis I ordered, and if it's a little late, well, it's a little late. I have a JAE 700 stock being delivered today (tracking number in hand) and that was a 4+ year wait! When you go custom, you deal with the wait...that's part of it being custom.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

I have GOT to stop looking at this thread. All this gun-porn is killing me. I'm still at least 2-weeks out and have been appeasing myself by buying other range/reloading gear to compensate. My wife just got the latest debit-card statement and the crap hit the fan. Anyone got a room to rent?

4 year wait?! Guns could be banned by then or Russia could invade before you get it.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

ROTFLMAO! Yeah, I ordered it in January of '08 when it was still a very early prototype...

It's on the little brown truck right now (Christmas time when I get home today!).

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Well, I'm in line too week 8, hopefully it'll be here soon.

This is my wife ran off present to myself, so it would be nice to get it before I finish shooting all of her collectables. I also have a G3k being finished up by Ghille on HKPro, so the wait is killing me. When all is said and done though, I will have a .308 solution for 5-1000 yrds. Good times. Bkwapisz no worries I have half a house you can rent.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

I just hope my Alpha mags come in before or at the same time that the chassis gets here.

Says they will ship after the 27th of last month. But the lawyer in me points out that the year 3000 is technically "after" 5-27-12.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

To you guys with the folder add-on; worth it or not? I am considering it but, not absolutely sure its needed.

Thanks

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

I was mostly just curious. Is the folder sprung? How does it stay folded? Does it lock in any way?

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

VTi, What do you think about that PainKiller?

I just got mine in for my 338 build. Components still need to go to the smith and have not seen one used around in my neck of the woods.

Sure would like some hands on feedback of its performance.

Nice rig by the way.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

For anybody interested in a super low-profile QD mount for your XLR handguard, check these out... they just happen to fit the slots in the XLR handguard perfectly.

May not work with some of the super-fat barrel contours, but works with Rem Varmint contour and similar just fine.

Frankly it's the most effective brake I've ever shot, and has to be one of the most effective brakes out there. I've owned/shot the APA Fat Bastard which I really like and consider the best brake on the market for larger magnums... for it's size.

The 5 chamber Painkiller brake looks to me like a VERY similar design, only more ports/chambers and MUCH more surface area. Both of which contribute to brake effectiveness, given similar designs.

I shoot several .338LM's with all types of brakes (AI, FTE, APA FB, Surefire, etc...) and all weigh in the 18-21 lb range. This 338/408CT weighs about 20 lbs and to me the recoil seems exactly the same, possibly even less, than a similar weight 338LM. That's 140gr powder versus 92gr powder behind a 300gr.

That says a lot to me. I love the PainKiller, no question it's a very effective brake.

XLR also sells a QD sling mount which is not listed on the site last I checked. Got one for mine on Kyles recommendation. Fits the handguards contour and attaches the same way the rails do. I didn't really want rails so he suggested it as an alternative.

To Kyle: A couple of observations after using the stock.

First, the AICS mags fit very nice and snug but, the opening could really use a nice beveling to help smooth out insertion. Insertion of the mag has to be dead on, something I could anticipate as a problem under match conditions, to get it in.

Second, the mag latch needs to be reshaped. On mine it touches the mag when releasing it which means the mag will not drop freely, instead its a two handed operation. An angle to the rear would help and I may actually try it myself.

Other than those two issues, it feels great, was easy to get set up, and everything held tight. I am definitely going to get the folder hinge. Cleaning is a PITA with having to loosen up the cheek piece and manuever around the butt pad.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Savage 12 left handed action in .223 with accutrigger
BFG 16.5 .300blk barrel, 1:8 twist and threaded 5/8th by 24
Sharp shooters precision recoil lug
XLR Chassis system with 12" shroud
Atlas Bipod
AICS 10 rounds mags
EGW 20 MOA base modified by XLR Industries
Seekins High Rings
SWFA SS 3-9 x 42 scope

My one complaint so far is actually the exact opposite about he mags. Maybe it's because they are the plastic .223 mags, but they are very loose in the action, feels like they are just flopping all over and detracts from the superb fit and finish of everything else. Tang looks great btw!

I agree with the above. If I could make any change to the stock, it would be a bevel to the mag well area. Other than that the stock is great, and the customer service is even better.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Looks like he didn't grind down the stud (you can see it in the third photo), so I'd say...no?

BTW, nk617, nice rig! I got an e-mail from Kyle this morning telling me my order should ship next week! Christmas in June!!!

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

I did not grind down the stud since the ace folder pushes the location back quite a bit so that its out of the way.

its not as ergronomic, but i maybe be able to use it on an AR platform down the road.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Hmmm...I wonder if an M-4 buttstock plate would/could fit, to fill the gap...even one made of delrin or some other polymer would fit the bill. If one of the CNC savvy guys here with a mill chose to make those, they might make a little bit of change...

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Got it today and put it all together. Freaking badass. I've never before had so much fun putting a rifle together. The grip is way better than I could have ever thought. It feels as good as a hand full of boob.

I had a rail on the top front of the tube until I attached the scope and realized that the cover couldn't open. Removing the sunshade would fix it, but it looks too cool with the longer scope body so I removed the rail.

Cool thing is, the entire rifle as it looks in the picture balances perfectly on the recoil lug. Which is also where I instinctively grab it.

Now I'm just waiting for the Alpha type 2 mags.

Savage 10 FCP-K .308
XLR chassis with 14 inch tube
Seekins 20 moa scope base (shortened by XLR)
Seekins AR-High 4 screw rings
SWFA SSHD 5-20x50 with sunshade and switchview lever
Holland bubble level
110 BA bolt handle
Harris 6-9 swivel bipod with pod lock
Accu-shot monopod

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Rotary - It looks like you have a bottom bolt release. I was wondering how the chassis would accommodate for it. Does it work pretty well for you?

It actually works better than the factory stock.

The release button is the little allen nut you see below. It is much easier for me to manipulate than the original button. I also took the opportunity, when assembling the chassis, to grease the mechanism for even better operation.

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Dangit RotARy, that's my rifle!!! I hope he didn't send you mine!LOL I'm at week 10 today. I have basically the same setup as you, waiting on my stock.

I've been wondering about rings though. I got the christmas deal on the SWFA, so I'm guessing now, that the rings Seekins Mids I think, are what came with it, won't fit with a 20moa rail?

Just hoping I get my call soon. I want to shoot my first Ftr Match in two weeks, and would love to use the chassis. Kyle hasn't answered my email yet though.

On the bright side my G3k is in!!! [img:center]

Re: XLR Chassis Stock

Which SWFA scope was that deal. I have the SWFA SS 3-9x42 on mine and it takes the highs to clear. I think the mid-highs would have worked, but it would have been very close with the 20moa base and BC Caps.
