Recently finished this build and load development. Im pleased with it so say the least. Shot this group today at Top Gun in leonard Tx. Rifle specs. Noveske lower, ops4 side charge upper, satern 20" .264 lbc rifled cut barrel, geissele SSA-E, magpul prs, 15" handguard, NF 3.5-15 nxs in a larue tl158, yada yada yada! Anyone else on this forum have a LBC?

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Thats what my Grendel looks like.. Pretty much same thing... I love the round and its accuracy..

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

thats what my 6.5 grendel looks like but you have the side charging upper, I have a JP handguard on mine and a 8-32x56 NXS on mine, same satern barrel but mine is grendel not the 264LBC eather chambering works great there all tack drivers, Im using 2520 powder in my reloads right now I was thinking about trying the 8208

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

I think you will find your rifle likes 8208 the same as 2520 and it is supposed to be more temp stable. Great looking build you have there and DAMN thata alot of scope!

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Okay, let's see

I had Les Baer build me a .264LBC on his small frame upper/lower combo. Has 20" Baer heavy custom match barrel (i.e. cut in house); his 4 rail free float front end (rather than round one featured on the web site). Has Geiselle two stage match trigger, Magpul PRS stock and MIAD grip, Atlas, DMR scope with GAP reticle.

Shooting custom Black Hills with 123SMK it shoots sub .5 MOA all day long. Took it out a couple of weekends ago and shot steel at 600 yrds: once I got my dope right hits were easy. Next stop, longer range (though Les recommends staying at or below 1K with his loading)

Compared to my .308 Monolith AR or my long bolt guns this setup is lighter, quicker easier. Has almost become my go to gun for fun

Regards

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

jeff1383, Did you happen to crono that load at all in your rifle? I ran and picked up some 8208 today so the next time I shoot and have emptys around Ill try that, just wondering what speeds you were getting with 28.3 like stated on your group pic. Im trying to stay around the factory hornady loads somewhere around 2525 FPS, im getting around 2540 FPS with my 2520 reloads.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Lethal I'm sorry I did not sir. There is a member on the grendel forum with a satern 24" and his barrel loves the same load as well. If you do decide to chrono please share if u don't mind.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Hey guys, im using 8208 in my 18" saturn grendel. Im geting 2530 fps with 28.7 gn with imr 8208 over 123gn amax. Love the stuff.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Just to shove a stick in the spokes, try Leverevolution with the 123's. You get the velocity of 2520 and I have not seen the pressure signs I do with 2520. I think it was either 30.4 or 31.4 grains. I have it written down but I am not home. The Grendel forum lists the loads though. 2520 has always shot good, but pressure signs were always close to the accuracy load. 8208 shot good too, but I prefer it with the 107/108's.

I have shot more than a few pounds of 2520, 8208, and Lever. My rifle prefers CCI 450's, but Wolf SRM, Rem 7.5, and even Fed 205M have worked well.

FWIW, I seem to remember I got around 2625 with 28.5 8208, 123 SMK, CCI 450, Lapua brass, Satern 24", AA upper and lower, JP trigger and forearm, PRS, NightForce 5.5x22, the usual Grendel toy stuff. The Scenar and 123 Amax were comparable.
YMMV, $.02, and all that.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

DHD I will try the powder out seeing that I'm out of imr at the moment and have some rounds needed to be loaded up. Thanks for the info! I think I've actually seen the powder in stock at my local cabelas. Just out of curiosity does your rifle like the 107-108's for longer ranges? I'm curious to try the lighters but have heard they don't perform as well in the lbc chamber.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

I'll have to try that load of 8208 with the 123 Amx's, I have all that stuff but not in the grendel.
thanx for sharing.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

I crono all my loads and have a log of the speeds I get, I would load them up right now but I dont have any empty brass I just loaded all of it the other week, Im planning on going to the range tomorrow to sight in my 22-250 and my 30-06 since I swapped some scopes around and im going to crono some Zmax 55gr bullets out of the 22-250, I allways take the grendel with every time I go shooting so if everything works out ill have some brass for the grendel to try the 8208 and check the speeds next weekend.

The range I shoot at (private) only has 100, 300, and 600 yard berms, so 600 is as far as I have gone. The 107 SMK and 108 Scenar shoot flatter, as I can get them a good bit faster, and group every bit as good as any of the 123's. What has also shot great is the 120 Berger, but it is pricey. The 120 SMK is good too, but the BC's on the 120's are lower. Can't say it makes a whole hell of a lot of difference at 600 though. Just add a 1 minute or so and they get there just fine!

FWIW I have shot 107, 120, and 123 SMK's, 108 and 123 Scenars, 120 Nosler BT, 120 Berger (fu**ing good bullet), and 123 Amax. Used XBR 8208, 2520, Leverevolution, H4895, and Varget (the last 2 were a waste of time for me). CCI 450, Wolf SRM, Rem 7 1/2, Fed SR, and Fed 205M. Lapua/AA brass exclusively! I use only a single stage press and Forster BR dies. I weigh every charge on a Sartorius 123 to the hundredth as well as I can (wish it was the GD503!).

By all means try Leverevolution, but keep 8208 on hand too.

I saw it mentioned in some earlier posts, I have some AA brass that is on at least it's 10th reload. I anneal every other load, and ultrasound often cause I like to. I never did any prep on the brass and it stopped growing after 5 or so reloads, so trimming ain't a chore.

Overall a very good cartridge, but it ain't cheap. My original barrel was a nightmare, but the Satern is a winner.

I am done rambling now...................

I have the exact same set-up from Les Baer as far as the rifle goes. I got the versa-pod as well, but I like the Atlas on it much better. I'm shooting Black Hills 123gr A-max, and the rifle does real well with it. My optic is a S&B PM II with the P4F reticle.

I took this rifle to Rifles Only and shot the Precision Rifle 1 and 2 combined course with it. I had an absolute blast that week, and the little gun made me look better than I am.

I used it once this past season for white tail. One 10 pt buck was standing past the feeder, right at 125 yds, per my Zeiss rangefinder. He was broadside, turned to look at me, and I put a round just below his right eye.

I just love this rifle.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Shot the 108 Scenar with 8208 on saturday. 29.7 gr at 2.260 out of a 20" barrel and got 2780 at 15'. Primers show slight pressure but pretty safe for me. Shoots under 3/8's moa. 3' group at 600 with 5 shots. I am finally happy and keeping the grendel. It was going in the garbage until this last shoot.

Thats awesome! Were you using the black hill 123amax load to hunt as well? Ive been curious to hear how the round performs on game.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Yes, using the 123 Amax. Took some axis deer last summer with it too.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

well since this thread has been brought back up I got to play with a new magnetospeed barrel mount crono the past couple weeks and some diffrent loads, heres what I got so far on record with this crono. this is with a my satern 20 inch barrel. series 9-10 I just shot today, the 29.5gr of 8208xbr seams really close with a s-d of only 7 and an ES of 19 I want to load up some more with that load and give it another shot next week, I only loaded 10 5 for the crono and 5 for grouping with out the crono on the rifle over all it seams my rifle likes everything I load for it, groups are always under 1/2 MOA getting close to 1/4 MOA groups most times if I do my part. but the 8208 specs over the crono seam really good so far.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

That is a beautiful rifle man. That has all the right components in it that I would have done. Love the side charger. Lotta people dislike them but I have a hard-on for them. Grendel/LBC is a fantastic round too. Kudos to a beautiful stick man.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Lethal, awesome post man! Tons of great info there! I would figure 29.5 would be a smoking hot load but your numbers and spread look good. Any flat primers or signs of over pressure going up that high? Which charge seemed to group the smallest for you?

Thanks man! The upper is sweet and at 300$ with upper and carrier group the price is right on point as well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another or recommend one to any one else.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

as stated Ithink all the loads I ever made up for this rifle shoot great, the primers dont look bad so far but thats as far as im taking the load, the stats over the crono 8208xbr 29.5gr is the best, I did have one factory hornady round that the fireing pin did go through you can see that in the bottom gorner of the pic here the gold primers are the factory loads.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

That's great to hear. Again thanks for sharing the info man! Those factory hornady rounds are pretty wild. After shooting my handloads I finished off a box of them and had my extrator lip snap a couple weeks ago : (

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

Ive been hearing more and more about hte extractors breaking on grendels of late so I ordered 2 spares today from AA. sometime down the road I want to get a complete bolt for a spare.

Re: Can I get some .264lbc love?

I'm looking for a Grendel barrel but they are tough to come by and I dont want to wait. Is there anywhere that has them in stock that you know of?

Wish I knew but I dont, sorry man. Its getting somewhat hard to find brass all of the sudden also. The demand must be alot higher than the supply at the moment. If you dont mind waiting I would suggest order a barrel through Satern in either LBC or grendel chamber.
