Hey guys,

I'm considering putting a Viper HS on one of my small game rifles (17HMR) and have been considering Vortex's new HS line since a PST is slightly overkill for tree-rats and bunnies.

Can anyone grab me a through the scope view of the Dead Hold BDC reticle? I was thinking about the 2.5-10x44 since I use a 3-9x40 now so I get a little bump on both ends of the zoom range.

I don't have a pic, but I really like my 2.5-10 HS

Re: Through scope pic request. Viper HS dead hold bdc

The reticle is fairly thin, but I've personally had no problems using mine in thick timber or low light. Managed to take 2 deer with it last season, and looking to take a couple more this season.

2.5x is great to use while in the thick stuff, and having 10x is great for those longer shots. In my opinion, this is the perfect magnification range for the hunting I do.

I have the 6.5-20 Viper(not HS) with Dead-Hold BDC. The reticle appears to be similar, except dots instead of hashes. Do you want to see that or is it too different?

Re: Through scope pic request. Viper HS dead hold bdc

Here are some pics through my 4-16 HS, I suck at taking through scope pics, as it is a pain in the ass to line up. So do not take these pics as a fact of image quality. You should get an idea of the reticle size and layout.

One pic auto focused on the reticle, the other kinda focused on both. Since it is a SFP scope, I think the thin reticle will be welcome for hunting little critters.

Yeah, the conundrum I'm facing is do I get that reticle (great pics by the way!) or the duplex since 17HMR really doesn't have any bullet drop before it becomes ineffective

The price is only about $10 difference (at SWFA), You may not need the drop, but you could always use the windage. Also the resale on the BDC will be higher than a duplex (not that any of us ever sell our scopes).

Vortex's site says the HS does not have Optically Indexed Lenses like the PST series does, so I don't know if image quality will suffer or if it would even be noticeable.
