When I first got it I loved the wide trigger shoe(510). The more I shoot it the more I think I don't like it. Anyone else feel the same way.

I have a pretty new 700 that came with the X Mark Pro. It has the adjustment screw in the trigger shoe. Can any smith do some magic to this trigger and get rid of that adjustment screw that pokes you in the trigger finger? I don't need some super duper target trigger. Just something that is reliable, consistent, and under 3 lbs for a field trigger?

    Thanks

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

I have a Timney trigger on my Remington 700 and like it quite a bit. I kind of like the wide trigger shoe. I wish it were slightly rounded on the edges though.

I have messed with trying to adjust the Remington factory triggers quite a bit. I never got the trigger pull to feel anywhere near as good as my Timney trigger.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

I'm not going to try to adjust it myself.

    I did find this though.

SAC is good people, Mark can do whatever you want, and I bet you will be happy.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

I've got the timney flat trigger in my 700 and love it. No adjustment needed in my rifle. I like the wide trigger.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

i like the feel of the wide shoe on the timney trigger.

question about the timney trigger...when the top smiths install these on their rifles, do they take them apart and polish them up, stone different angles, tune them, etc...or do they put them in as they come from the factory?

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

Thats a little outside my budget but does look awesome.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

I'll let you know. I emailed SAC and GAP about trigger jobs.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

    How so?

Also who did yours and did the stupid adj screw go bye bye?

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

I don't know about everyone else, But I run single set trigger aka a Hair trigger, Never missed a deer, target yet!

    RFutch,

Timney makes a thinner shoe for their triggers as well (I believe the extra designation is "U" after the model number). Call them on the phone and they will answer any questions and set you up if you want to stay with a Timney. They will also set the trigger to your preferred weight before they ship it out.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

Well I had my x mark pro tunned by a local smith and yes got rid of that set screw that rubs your finger it was crisp and about 2-3 lbs, now my Timney is lighter in pull and just as crisp if not more and I love the wide shoe, due to my fat fingers, just a better quality and fit. at least for me.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

That is why I use Jewell triggers. I hate the wide shoe. I also think it is easier to pull a shot with the wide trigger if you don't get a good 90 degree finger position before breaking the shot. I just couldn't get used to it.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

Pull your action out and remove the set screw on the x mark then there is a Allen screw on the front of the trigger assembly that has super glue or silicone in it, pick the glue out and give it a turn or two counter clockwise. This is how I tuned my x mark and it has been great so far. I should also mention I re-glued the screw in place when I had it set were I wanted it, it is not a very tight fitting screw and could easily move changing your pull weight. Also make sure to fully slam and bump test the trigger before live testing.

Re: I'm starting to dislike my timney trigger...

I recently ordered a 510U for my Bighorn action thinking it just had the longer sear designed for some of the custom actions, but it did have a more narrow and rounded trigger shoe than my regular Timney that I have.

I seem to prefer the narrow 510U trigger shape now.

GAP does nice work on a Xmark. That's what I am currently running in my match guns.
