Can anyone who has experience with their ammo give me their opinions and results they have gotten with their .308 Win Ammo. Any Reviews would also be very appreciated.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I can only speak to their 155 Scenar loads, but it has worked flawlessly for me, with plenty of accuracy to 700 yards ( the furthest I've shot it ) in the south Texas winds.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I have shot a few hundred rounds of Southwest's 308/175gr in Lapua, Winchester and LC brass. Consistency was excellent and all varieties were very accurate.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I shot their 308win 175smk from my GAP-10, and stopped reloading for it because their accuracy was so good.

I also weighed their ammo and their consistency was excellent. Checked their bullet concentricity and they are close to what I get when I reload myself with Redding competition dies.

Re: Southwest Ammo

X2 for the above. Great accuracy with all the 175 loads out of my GAP-10. I went out to 800 yards with the LC stuff and shot over 300 rounds in two days with not one problem.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I'm running the 175's in Winchester brass in my GAP10. Very accurate and consistant. Have only been out to 730 yards with it. It's a little on the slow side in my 20" (2515 fps) but the barrel only had 40 rounds through it when I chronoed. I'm at 120 rounds now, and my "dope" has it around 2550.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I just want to say thanks again for the replies, the members here at Sniper Hide are Awesome and know their stuff. I plan on putting in a very large order of the 175 SMK and am very confident.

Re: Southwest Ammo

A gentleman at the range gave me 5 SWammo 175's in Win brass and that was the best my 10FP ever shot, .9MOA with the infamous 5th round flier...damn it!!! Their SW118LR load in my 20" ar10t averaged 2570 and showed good accuracy but my shooting was off that day. That same load in my buddies 24" LR308 averaged 2650 spot on, but his rifle didnt like that load. Must not like that particular powder i guess, shoots lights out with FGMM 175's. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of anything Southwest puts out.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I've shot the 168 SMK's out of my Kimber bolt gun and they are lights out. I have only shot them from 100 and 200 yards so far but they are very consistent all the time. I just ordered a little more in fact to have on hand. good stuff

Re: Southwest Ammo

I just want to say thank you to everyone for the great reviews.

My two cents is, great ammo, ma and pa style business right now. Our shipping is slow due to logistical error made on my part personally last march. We are almost caught up and will stay that way. We really want to be a great fast shipping company and we are confident in that goal. Another benefit to our business is that it is combat veteran owned, how many ammo companies can say that? We are two guys who met in the Marine corps 12 years ago.

I thank you for the opportunity to be your ammunition supplier. You will always have a direct line to us for any questions.

Thanks,

Zach

Thanks for serving!...and loading such great ammo. I went through 500 rounds of your stuff, and just ordered 1000 rounds more.

Pass the word to the two in my deal thread. Thanks, it is nice to hear we are making you happy with our products.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I bought 400 rounds of the 175 smk premium but have yet to shoot it in my JP LRP -07 due to the fact that the nearest 100 yard range is about 135 miles from me. But I will be going soon, anyways my best friend bought the same ammo and shot it in his GAP-10 and told me he will not buy AMMO FROM ANYONE BUT SOUTHWEST. I do not ever remember hearing of one complaint about Southwest Ammo, that tells me something. Keep doing a great JOB and thanks for your service, I am a veteran myself.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I had issues. Apparently I had a bad batch. A few got stuck and the extractor ripped the case rim clean off. I had a bitch of a time getting them cases out. I had ordered run and gun and got half and half R&G and new Winchester 175gr 308. Because they knew I might have issues due to the problems at the time. The New stuff worked okay and most of the R&G did to. Just a few rounds caused issues in my M21 Springfield.

Accuracy wise wasn't anything to right home about. Blackhills did better with the same SMK bullet. My specific rifle does seem to favor the Amax bullet getting it's best groups overall from them. I have not been able to try any SW ammunition loads with that particular bullet since.

.73" with Blackhills 175gr has been the group to beat with the 175gr SMK bullet. That was shot at 100yards with iron sights prior to aquiring the USO scope. With the scope shooting SWA 175gr my best groups observed were grouping around 1.1".

Time of order till the time I got the shipment was over 2 weeks I believe. There was issue at the time I guess and that delaied it. Then I had to sign for it and that cost me another few days to finally catch to delivery service. Maybe it is better now? Hopefully there is few issues where they have to pull apart a production run and leave their brass full of fingerprints. The only saving grace was that they tried. Which in turn I haven't completely wrote them off.

But all and all my first experiance wasn't great. So there you are, a complaint. Times are rough at the moment and shooting is on the extreme back burner. Maybe someday things will be good enough to revisit SWA.

Re: Southwest Ammo

Am burning through some bulk Federal 7.62x51 FGMM at the moment but my buddy has been getting half moa with both the SW Win and Lapua 175SMK loadings through his Surgeon. I have run a few hundred SW subsonic 190 SMKs with great results. On paper they are holding sub moa when I'm doing my part out to 200 yds and are very consistent on my steel silhouette out to 500 yds (with 21 mil holds btw :). Zach and company are good people and their products are top notch. 5872

Re: Southwest Ammo

I've shot in the neighborhood of 3000 rounds of SW .308 of several different varieties, and I have been VERY impressed with it! Shot better than my reloads and I've never had an issue with FTF, FTE, or rounds that didn't go where I told the gun to send them (not always where I WANTED to send them mind you!)
Great ammo at a great price!

Re: Southwest Ammo

You know, this stuff help us a lot. Either we are on the right track or we need to make changes.

We just bought two m14's to get in that market. The run and gun had some issues from time to time, we dumped that product for retail.

Once we get caught up we will make some videos with our products.

Custom loading is coming soon, and we will also do processing services for fired brass.

We just bought some commercial sonic cleaners and annealing machines. Trying to budget a roll sizer for machine gun fired brass, not sure
If that is really in the budget right now.

Thanks for the feedback, good and bad, keeps us honest.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I'm still shooting my way through Run-N-Gun and it's giving FGMM a heck of a pounding. SW is my go-to match round these days.

Re: Southwest Ammo

I am running the premium 308 155 grain scenar load. My rifle as well as my buddies love them. They are VERY consistent!!

Re: Southwest Ammo

Seriously? If I send you 400 pieces of brass, you will load them for $0.60 each?
If so, thats a hell of a deal and the way I will be going from now on.

Re: Southwest Ammo

More details:

FC/LC, Lapua, Winchester, brass is acceptable.

We do not want machine gun fired 308 brass, that stuff needs to be roll sized.

The 155 Scenars will have a $0.14 up charge.

Thanks

Re: Southwest Ammo

M21guy Ever stop to think that mabey it was your rifle not the ammo ? Do you have proof ?

Re: Southwest Ammo

I need to order some ammo for a OBR I have on order.

I need to try some 168 and 175 to see what the rifle likes best.

Re: Southwest Ammo

So you will only take FC, LC, Win., and Lapua brass right now? No remington? Oh and what projectile will you guys be loading for the $0.60?

I could really use this service in .223 also!

Awesome job guys, keep up the good work. This is the new wave of ammo for sure. Thanks.

We will load, 175 smk's, 168 smk's, 168 Amaxes for $0.60.

.223 we will do, but baby steps. We want to get an idea of how busy this will get. We are going to hire a guy to process brass for some other things we do, so we might as well keep him busy.

Re: Southwest Ammo

Sw is great all my orders have been shipped promp. I have had no problem with there ammo and I have shot a couple thousand rounds of 300wm and 260. It's awesome to be able to order presicion ammo and get hand loaded quality thanks guys...

Will you do 300 blackout as well?

Re: Southwest Ammo

Only 308 for now, we need to feel this out and add calibers from there.

Re: Southwest Ammo

Shit, at $0.60/round, I'm not sure why I'd spend the time to reload on my own! What projectile does that include? Your 175 gr SMK match ammo worked great out to 685 yards!

Re: Southwest Ammo

This may be a dumb question but I assume when you reload 308 ammo you will simply headspace to the standard length or can the customer request a specific length?

Re: Southwest Ammo

SWA is one of those companies you can count on! They actually listen to us little guys!

No Hornady brass allowed? Thanks.

Re: Southwest Ammo

Hornady brass is good. Don't really want to do Remington brass, primers pop easy out of those after they are fired.

Please no machine gun fired brass, we can tell. It needs to be roll sized and we dont have the means yet.

Standard sizing and trimming.

We will see how this goes and do some more cool stuff with this.

Re: Southwest Ammo

Interesting.

I suspect you'll be getting an email from me shortly. Any idea what the turn around will be?

Re: Southwest Ammo

I have a man dedicated just to this stuff. Our goal is no later than 8 days from arrival to departure from our shop.

We have been doing this locally now so we have the procces down pretty good. Our shop is located 5 minutes from one of the out door ranges so we once people know we are there, they ask.

Can't believe i never asked about this. Been buying your stuff for quite a while: shoots great, reloads nice. Now you can do it for me. Wow; so much for our Dillons.

I've got a bucket full of your brass: call to follow.

Keep up the great work. Will have to drop in from Sedona one of these days.

Proof the Blackhills Ammo shot better? I believe I still might have the targets somewhere. Proof the the case rim tore off, yeah I still have them I'm sure in the box they came with.

No it isn't the rifle. When you invest 7k in building one of these, there isn't any thing you over look. The ammo had issue, I was told it might, but to try it. I tried and it did.

I had forgot about it till I read someones post stating they didn't think they have ever heard of someone with issue. I had issue, so I shared.

My rifle was chambered for 175gr match specifically. It shoots 175gr SMK over-all better than 168gr SMK. However Amax 168gr seems to edge out even the 175gr SMK. 178gr Amax I have never tried so I don't know if that will work even better yet.

I'm pretty poor so I haven't shot it in a while. Hopefully I'll place high enough with my written test this Saturday to move on in the hiring process for this PD I applied to. Getting hired means a lot since I've been in and out of poverty since 08 and still somehow got through school and paid my own way through the academy while keeping my head above ground. Something has to give in this crap economy. Shooting my rifle has been of little priority. Any shooting I get to do is to stay active with my duty pistol. A few shots here and there has been it with that. Pretty much sucks.

Anyway, back to studying. I'm taking an EMT class this semester. That is very demanding and I need to stay on top of it.

Re: Southwest Ammo

M21guy I apologize, I was not sure if you knew it was the ammo or not. I have a JP LRP-07 and it was an expensive rifle I just know anything man made can break or not work sometimes. Meant no disrespect, anyways sorry for the hardship, this ECONOMY SUCKS right now and things most definitley need to change. Hope things start to go your way, good luck.
