Anyone care to comment on the AR-30? Good, bad? Have a chance to buy one, happy with other Armalite products. Would like some input. Thanks!

Re: AR-30

A friend of mine runs one; he has just over a 1000 rounds through his and it still shoots lights out. He favors 250 gr. Scenars with his

Re: AR-30

Any other feedback on this? I'm interested as well, and I'm very new to long range shooting. I currently have a DPMS LR308 with 24" SS bull barrel and have replaced stock trigger with Giessele SSA. How does Armalite compare to DPMS?

Re: AR-30

Are we talking .308, .300WM or .338LM model???

I owned a .308 for several years. I came to the conclusion that the ergonomics, combined with the relatively light barrel, was a push for me to get into a different platform. The .308 heated up quickly causing stringing of rounds and the stock and cheekpiece are not adjustable. It was a good shooter but I think there are better factory options, or put together yourself options, than the AR-30.

Re: AR-30

All of the bolt-action AR rifles shoot very well but are typically considered "entry level" for some of the reasons posted above. I don't think I would buy one in .308 as there are other good options in its price range, but in .338 it will be a shooter at a very low price point, so I can see the appeal.

Re: AR-30

Not sure about the OP, but I was asking about .308. I am entry level, but I wouldn't mind getting a better rifle if it meant I don't have to buy another one for awhile. What other good bolt-action options are there in this price range?

I would get a Remy 5R instead of an AR-30 if your looking for a .308 only. Now if you were looking to get started on a .338, it's a great platform for the $$. I had one in .338 but sold it eventually to upgrade to a SRS. The Armalite platform is a bit bulky and heavy for a .308, jmho.

Re: AR-30

I was interested in the AR-30 in .338 only. Thanks for the input!
