I picked up a set of Co-Ax shellholder jaws and would like someone to identify which cartridges they are supposed to fit.

They are older; in that the package is labeled "BONANZA RELOADING EQUIPMENT FARIBAULT MINNESOTA"

The following typed (with a typewriter) labeling indicates that they are

"50 JAWS"
"CO-AX PRESS"

with the number "15001241"

There is also the number "50" stamped into the metal of each jaw.

When the jaws are aligned, they form more of a circle and are not quite as oval as the jaws on my 2 year old Forster CO-AX press.

I need to measure the diameter across the jaw opening. Obviously a cartridge case with a rim diameter less than the opening size will fit. But does anyone have a reference for the cartridges these jaws were originally intended for?

I picked these up pretty cheap ($1.25 + tax) from an LGS. They are obviously new (rather, I should say, never been used).

Thanks,

Brad

Re: Identify CO-AX shellholder jaws...

Just another bit of information.

The smaller end of the jaws is larger that the extractor groove on a .45 acp (.473 case head). There is about .04" plus or minus play with the .473 case head between the small jaws. The larger jaws are a much larger radius for an even larger cartridge.

So these jaws are apparently for a magnum (.532) and/or large rimmed cases. I'm wondering if they are for some of the BPCR cases. .45-70, etc and .50-90, 50-110, etc.

Re: Identify CO-AX shellholder jaws...

if they open wide enough to fit the case in - and do not touch when closed - then they fit the case

if they say 50 then probably 50BMG

Re: Identify CO-AX shellholder jaws...

They are way too small for a 50 bmg.

I was able to round up a short action ultra mag case to check size.

The jaws fit the case head/extracter groove well.

The radius of the jaws on both ends matches the case, however one side is cut deeper than the other. One end allows a 1/16" gap when closed over the rim, but the other allows almost a 1/4" gap.

I've got it figured out now.

Thanks,

Brad
