Just started getting into reloading...mainly becuase of the price/cost of shooting the .338.

Im buying my bullets and powder next week and seeing what some of yall have used and worked up for this particular gun that can get me pretty close and save alot of trial and error time.

H1000 and reloader 25 are the 2 poweders ive seen used most often and ill be using 250 grain bullets.

Get new Lapua brass, add a Berger Hybrid OTM 250 grain bullet along with Retumbo or H 1000 & have fun. With both powders, start in the mid 80's & work up in .5 increments. You'll probably wind up in the low to mid 90's for both. The job will be easier if you have a chronograph to verify muzzle velocity. Both powders should push that 250 over 2800fps.

I forgot to add use Federal 215 or 215M primers. I've had misfires with both CCI & Winchester, but never, knock on wood, with a Federal.

Absolutely don't waste your time with any brass other than lapua for the 110ba. You have been warned!

Re: Savage 110BA .338 reloading

Idk what type of brass sellier and bellot uses but that's what I have been shooting and the gun loves it. But all the new brass I'm getting is lapua.

And also will have a chrono as well. Most likely will be using the nosler accubond so that if one day I want to shoot a coyote or deer etc with it I will be ready to go and and not have to try another load setup (if it would even change that much from a match bullet).

Just a heads up with the savage, you may have to turn the necks for proper extraction. Some of the chambers are real tight

HSM ammo ran 'just fine' with no issues in my savage as well. However upon trying to reload it, I probably went through 40+ rounds of trouble shooting with pressure/accuracy problems on my reloads until I switched to lapua and now it works like a dream. I'm getting great groups and insanely small ES/SD (way smaller than what the chrono is even accurate to)

Now that you've got that out of the way as to brass. On to chrony's. I highly recommend a magneto Speed. Trust me, you'll love it if you try it. Of course that's what she said.:

Then there are dies. If you want accuracy @ 1000 yds +, I recommend you get into full sizing with neck bushings. But that's another story.
