Im trying to decide if I should just go with their Remington trigger, or upgrade to the jewell.

I have only used rifle basix in my savage, and giessle SSD-E's in my AR's.

I did some searching around, and cant find a whole lot either way.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

I'm still on a factory trigger. Its the old style & adjusted very clean.

If it were a weak link, it would be gone. But I have yet to have any real complaint in the 7 years, thousands of rounds, and countless incarnations of the rifle.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

I consider a properly tuned old-style remington trigger at about 3 lbs to be really, really good.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

I would upgrade to the Jewell. I have both the GAP modified Remington, as well as a Jewell, both on GAP builds. The Remington is set at 2.5 LBS. and the Jewell is set at 1.5 LBS. The Jewell blows the doors off the Remington. The only things I regret about my first GAP build was the Remington trigger and not opting for the integrally adjustable cheekpiece. Though, the reason I dislike the Remington may be because it is so damn heavy.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

I still have older Remington triggers in a couple different rifles. They were properly adjusted based on my needs and they still work very well...some after 10+ years of regular use/abuse. I also run a variety of "aftermarket" triggers and factory triggers tuned/modified by custom shops.

If money is no object, then there are arguably far better triggers out there depending on your particular wants/needs in a trigger...it all comes down to you and what you want.

+1. Replaced my GAP Rem trigger with a Jewell and like it much better.

this is what i was wondering.

btw what stock did you get? i am thinking a manners t4a or t5a.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

I have Remington in both of mine. I wouldn't change the for any reason. I've hear jewels if they get dirty act up. Why fix something that isn't broke and GAP tunes a factory really nice.

the problem is that im pretty dang picking after using the giessele's and now that i have used good ones, its painful to go back.

i just didnt know how much of a difference there way. it seems there is a noticeable difference, so i might as well.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

If you need your trigger weight to go below 3.5 lbs reliably, then the Jewell is the way to go. Adjusting the stock Remington trigger can be hit or miss and over time, it may "adjust itself" which could be very problematic. But if you are happy with what you have, test drive a Jewell before you make the investment.

I got the McMillan A4. I have since purchased an T4A for another build and I like the forearm better than the A4.

</div></div>mine are set 2.5 pounds by GA. Have never had one problem.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

I prefer old Rem triggers over just about anything other than the flat Timney. The Rem triggers are reliable, can be adjusted to be very great, too. Unless you're shooting dedicated F-class or BR, I'd avoid Jewel or anything too much under 2.0 lbs. it can be problematic.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

Both my GA rifles and one by Dave Walker, now at Accurate Ordnance, have the rem triggers as well as a Pierce eng. rifle. I am not sure I could see the difference in accuracy with anything else.
I do have a 2 oz Jewell in a 6 PPC bench rifle, so I have some experience with others.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

I have a couple of GAP's as well and one of the 2 still has the old fashion rem 700 trigger tuned by GAP in it, and the other has a Huber 2 stage that I just got.

I've bought all triggers and tried them out in the GAP's and hated everyone of them, except the Huber. I found myself going right back with the remy 700 trigger that GAP tuned.

The biggest complaint, I had, with all the triggers was the reset was stiff. The Remy 700 rigger was awesome, but lacked in trigger travel/sear. The Huber is close, in reset, but it still is not as soft as the Rem 700 tuned by GAP. The Huber is by far the nicest in trigger travel/sear.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

so if i am going to have a trigger pull of 2lbs would you guys just recommend keeping the stock tuned trigger? it seems to be a preference things vs a "this trigger is clearly better" type situation.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

Snyper,

You are aware that bolt gun triggers don't really reset persay like an AR or semi auto pistol

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

Still have the factory trigger in my 2012 700. I am happy with it so far BUT I only have @ 200 rounds through the weapon at this time.

Save your money for something that will make a difference, like more ammo!

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

Thanks for bringing that up. For a brief moment I was thinking, "Have I been missing something for my entire life?"

Honestly I thought that after using giesseles.

Re: Who still has their origional GA Remington Trigger

After many years of owning/using various aftermarket triggers, my preference is for "old", tuned, Remington triggers.

But, there may be a compelling reason for using another trigger (benchrest stuff or F-class maybe?).

In response to the OP, I have two GAP builds on Surgeon actions, with "old-style" tuned Remington triggers.
