X-Mark Pro Trigger Re-Work....?

Ive noticed a lot of people have mentioned a re-work of the X-Mark trigger in there 700s.

What company would be the best to do this with my trigger?

I live in Oklahoma so I'm thinking about giving Surgeon a call on doing this for me.

You'd be better served by purchasing a new trigger. Most people that adjust the Remington triggers do it by themselves so there is no cost involved.

If you don't feel comfortable adjusting your own trigger I'd suggest a Timney trigger that you can install yourself...it's very easy.

if you have the x-mark. shoot it. i have no complaints with mine so far. ill swap it out once i need a lighter pull or the pull weight starts getting weird.

however, check the safety in cold weather. mine first x-mark would fire moving from S to F once it was below 40-ish degrees.

I was worried about getting the X-Mark trigger in the 5R I just bought.
Tried it out, and am very happy with it. No take-up, crisp release. I don't have a trigger guage, but the weight feels a tad lighter than my 4.5lb Service Rifle trigger. I can live with this trigger for a long time.

(The below 40 degrees thing has me a little concerned, as this is a dual use hunting rifle for me. Will have to test this out when it gets colder.)

i think guys that have them tuned, like myself, do because they already have it and have the gun in the shop for something already. i was having a rifle built by moon and an x-mark was on the donor rifle already so i had him tune it up. It came back feeling very nice actually. I would say if that is the only thing your wanting done with your gun just upgrade to a new trigger as opposed to sending off the xmark to be worked, just my opinion, though a tuned xmark can be a great trigger, especially on a hunting utility gun.

That's exactly what led to me having my tuned. Rifle came with it, it was in the shop for other work and it only cost $20. I am extremely happy with it and my gunsmith made sure that those shifts in adjustment would not happen unless I actively made it happen.

So $20 for a tuned, solid 2.5 pound trigger that works great in my application or the $100+ on an aftermarket for the same thing? For a much higher dollar rifle/build I would still go with something like a Timney but for my needs at this time... Can't beat that value.

GA Precision put a reworked X-mark on one of my rifles and it was fantastic. As good or better that the older triggers.

It was better than the Jewel I replaced it with. I didn't like the Jewel, so that rifle neded up with a 40X trigger.

I have a couple x-mark pro adjustables, and after replacing the spring with one from Ernie the Gunsmith and cleaning it up a little, it's a great trigger. Check out:

I had GAP tune mine up while they were doing my rifle and I love it. Had them set it at 2.5 pounds and granted I dont have a trigger scale, but I'd put money it's right on it. No creep and it breaks really clean and smooth. I've got no complaints with it.

Called Surgeon and they said they wouldn't tune my trigger. They said they only do them are there complete builds. I don't blame them.

I may try the spring replacement that jhnmdahl suggested.

Thinking about upgrading the trigger completely. I would like to have a two stage trigger. Any recommendations?

I'm not a two stage trigger guy for precision rifles because I started out with single stage, and still use single stage triggers. For this reason I can not offer any help there. However, if you do go single stage, you will find the Timney 510 hard to beat. You can order it at what ever pull weight you want, and once you understand how it works, you can adjust it the way you want it to be.
