Ok fellows. I currently have a rem 700 LTR .308 pss .300 mag, gap crusader .308, 5r .300 mag. Armalite ar/10. So as you can see the .30 cals are covered. I got 3,000$ in dec. To do what ever I want with. I love shooting lr, even compete in ftr. The .30 is inferior as we all know unless you ate shooting magnums. If I were to build a new rig I would want it to be 6 or 6.5 mm. Question is what shoots flatter (bc) what is cheaper to reload for and what is the easiest obtainable things like brass, bullets ect..... Or do you guys think I should upgrade one of my winmags. Ive driven the pss out to 1202 yards with a 10" group. Already got a 30" Broughton 5c on order (scendero contour) maybe I should put a BAT action on it and save some $$$. I don't know what to do. Love the superior ballistics of the 6 & 6.5 but am a little bit anxious about starting over. What would you guys do

Re: 3,000$ budget. What to do??

Sell the LTR and PSS with the cash to get an AI in .260, 6.5 Creedmoor or .243...

THat is a nice setup you have in the classifieds.

Re: 3,000$ budget. What to do??

I'd go bigger 338 Norma AI like they say Bigger is Better.

Re: 3,000$ budget. What to do??

$700 to get a 6.5 or 6mm barrel on your GAP Crusader and have a switch barrel. Take the other $2300 and buy ammo.

Not nearly as many lap dances or liquor when you factor in the blow...

Re: 3,000$ budget. What to do??

DUDE, please just do a switch barrel on the Crusader and invest in some high quality ammo like some custom loaded McCourt 130-140 JLK's.

BIG TIME performance from a Creed or .260 out to probaly 1300 yards (depending on barrel length & velocity).... maybe a little farther then 1300?

Are you saying get GA to do it or a local "GOOD" smith. ALOT of $$ behind that crusader stamp. (meaning sell value). And no body but ga can put that insignia on. Wait time is 7 to 8 months.

Dont forget barrel vise good bench action wrench etc. If you buy another gun then you get to get a bunch of other stuff, scope, rings, bipod, etc...

Lol, how much Lapua brass do you think he'll get for $100?

And I vote for a barrel swap too. Or sell a couple and just get an AI if you need it quickly.

I'm saying have GAP spin you up a new barrel

Re: 3,000$ budget. What to do??

Think I gotta a plan. Get a 6.5 barrel from ga. 26" bartlein. Have them do all the work. Sell my old barrel 1200 rounds down the tube. Was looking at the bcs of the .260 and my dear lord. I'm gonna miss my Crusader but the #s speak for themselves. Bc that is. Sound like a plan???

Re: 3,000$ budget. What to do??

I recently received my first GAP rifle back from GAP after its 1st re-barrel. Mine is a Crusader also, in .308. I just wanted a longer 26" barrel (27" from the lugs) put on it to get a bit more velocity. I was more than a little concerned having never sent one back to George and the gang for a re-barrel, because it was an absolute laser out of the box and of course, I wanted it to stay that way. It's still an absolute laser, if anything even better, because I'm now pushing 175s almost 100 fps faster than before and the accuracy/precision is just as sickening as ever it was. If you're convinced on giving the .260 a try, have no concerns that it will come back from GAP every bit as good (or better).

Re: 3,000$ budget. What to do??

Sell the LTR 308 and 5r 300 or the pss. Get GAP to build you a 260 from a Rem action. You'll still have you crusader for ftr and a 300wm, plus a new 260. If nothing else get gap to overhaul the ltr to a 260.

Been down that road. Hell, for 300$ brass I could be almost halfway to the 700$ mark for barrel change. Had a .338 lapua shot it , sold it , made 400$. Got 200 just got the brass.

Re: 3,000$ budget. What to do??

I love my 6.5 creedmoor. I think .243 might be a little easier to get components but something is just nice about the 6.5 creedmoor my AR-10 in creemoor will push a 142gr SMK out to 1350 before dropping transonic at sea level get up there in elevation a little say 4500 feet now you are looking at 1600 yards before dropping transonic. Barrel life is also reasonable and recoil is low on the 6.5 creedmoor.

I am putting together a 6.5 creedmoor bolt gun right now that should be relatively close to your price range.
Badger M2008 Action 1100~
Bartlein Barrel 350~
AICS 2.0 1100~
Huber Concepts trigger $300
Gunsmith 500~

Thats a total of 3350 you could drop the budjet by going with a cheaper trigger and an AICS 1.5 rather then the 2.0.
