Just broke out my new CED M2 chronograph and tested several different loads. FGMM 175 averaged 2760 for 5 shots, and FGMM 168 averaged 2748 for 5. This is through a 22inch 1-11 twist bartlein barrel. I am 1200 ASL, pressure was 30.51, temp was 27 degrees F, and humidity was 44%. Do these numbers seem pretty high to anyone else? Couple other loads I tested were closer to what I expected. Black hills blue box 77grn averaged 2578 for 14 rounds through my MK12 SPR, and black hills MK262 77grn ran 2730 through the same 18 inch tube for 10 shots.

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

Seems fast. I'm getting around 2630fps from my 22" barrel in hotter temps

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

Did they show signs of pressure? Also what was the ES and SD?

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

They weren't spending more than 10-15 seconds in the chamber. Velocities for all 5 shots were ridiculously consistent. 2761, 2757, 2765,2759, and 2762

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

Well that throws that theory out the window. Sorry didn't mean any disrespect just gotta ask the stupid questions.

Edit (if anyone is interested): ES = 8fps and SD = 3.033fps agreed quite consistent.

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

not sure man, but 77gr BH ammo from an SPR should be scootin along a little faster than 2600.

-edit
disregard, I can't read. your 262 stuff looks good.
Aren't bartlein barrels pretty tight? Seems like most of these nice barrels give an FPS jump right off the bat.
I would test it again tomorrow or maybe grab some different lot numbered ammo and re-test. .02 cents

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

Surprising velocities for the 175, especially being faster than the 168's. According to Federal, their test in a 24" barrel only yields 2600 or so.

I always get a faster velocity from the 168's, although not by a lot. Both factory loads also shoot well below their stated velocity, but that's from 16" to 20" barrels.

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

shoot it at 25 yds and 600 yds - record the real world drop - feed all the info into the JBM calculator - you will find that the data will match up with a MV 2600-2650 from that length barrel

you will come to find out that a crony has some good uses, finding dead on MV is not usually one of them

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

Velocities will always very depending on bore diameter, actions and chambers with a tight ream job.

A trg rifle with a 26" barrel will shoot my ammo at 2700fps. A GAP crusader with a 22" barrel will shoot te same lot ammo at 2750fps.

I have also received 100fps faster results with the m2 chronograph, so a distance confirmation with the JBM is a good second opinion.

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

The CED M1 and M2 are known to be very sensitive to lighting. Don't rely on their results to be accurate as they can be off by as much as 10%.I consistently get up to 100 fps differences when I do not use my blackout box. I use the IR screens in a box that keeps ambient light out. I then get velocities that are within 25 fps of confirmed downrange data.

I see. Maybe Ill grab the IR screens and use a box next time as well.

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

Those numbers do seem high. I've never gotten 2700fps out of any FGMM 175s, and concur that the chrono might be the issue. Agree with the others, do real world and back the velocities in.

+1 on this..

Re: FGMM 175 typical muzzle velocities?

I shoot the FGMM 7.62X51, not the .308, in my 700 with 20 inch Krieger MTU. I have dope at all ranges out to 1000 yards and Shooter says the bullets are flying at 2650. The box says they are supposed to be doing 2600 and I think they normally test using 24 inch barrels. Go figure.
