If they were going to sue you, they'd have done so by now.

Seems like a lawyer trying to pad his billable hours...

Re: WARNING ~ tacticalrifles.net ~ My experience

Sounds like once again they cannot build a trust level with the community over their absolute lack of skill on building rifles, so they have to threaten the other businesses. I bet half the offenders within our prison walls have better machining skills that that of TR, especially the ones that can't read or write...

Marc - This doesn't constitute as legal advice but if you feel that you are being harassed by the legal counsel of ~TR~ you are entitled to certain protections. Especially if it hinders your ability to deliver services as it pertains to your business. Treble damages if you can prove it. Just my .02 I hate it when people try to bluff legal threats. Clients are always advised to say "Please stop harassing me"

I don't suppose they indicated WHAT they would sue you over. Charged with one count of objectively revealing the shoddy work produced by a business? Good luck with that...

Re: WARNING ~ tacticalrifles.net ~ My experience

Stick to your guns, dont give in. You are not doing anything wrong. FUCK THEM!!

I will chime in on Tactical Rifles customer service. It sucks. I ordered my first custom rifle from them over 4 years ago because they looked as good as any other builder on the internet to me. It was their M40 model. Well I was quoted 6-8 months and it was delivered in 12 months. I was deployed for most of the wait time so I didn't call and bug them at all. I was happy with the rifle and how it shot. The only complaint I had was with the bottom metal protruding from the bottom of the stock (I think I may have the rifle Turbo54 is talking about in the first page of the thread because I had it at TVP a few years ago) but it wasn't enough to put a bad taste in my mouth yet.

So my first rifle shot as advertised and looked good so I decided to order my next rifle from them. This time it was their Tactical M21. They quoted me 9-10 months and cashed my deposit check for half of the total on March 17th 2010 and I just received the rifle on February 27th 2013. Twenty days shy of 3 years. I started calling them every month after about a year and a half waiting and every time they didn't know what the status of my rifle was and promised to check on it and call me back. The only excuse I ever got was "we are waiting on a key component that is backordered" but they couldn't tell me what the component was. They finally emailed me in September of 2012 to request the remaining balance and said my rifle was 6 weeks from completetion. I was frustrated from dealing with them and waiting at this point but I was about to receive the rifle so I felt a little better. They cashed the last check Oct 1 2012 so I expected to receive the rifle by December. Well when a few months passed I started having my wife call them again every few weeks because she is better at dealing with people than me and I was deployed. She finally spoke to the owner who told her "If I told you everything that went wrong with building this rifle, it would make you physically ill" and "the guy who is building it is very old and I can't make him work any faster". According to her he was a total douche bag and was very rude. He said that calling and checking on the status wasn't going to speed it up. At this point she refused to deal with them anymore. The only call I ever received from them was when the rifle finally shipped.

Well I am still waiting to get home and check it out first hand because I had it shipped to my brother in Ohio to pick up while i was deployed. He sent me pictures and everything looks good so far. I hope there is nothing wrong with it because I can't deal with these people anymore. I understand things go wrong with builds and stuff takes longer than anticipated but 3 years is fucking ridiculous and when you charge that much money for something the least you could do is let me know what is going on when you take my money and still dont deliver after a year, then 2 years, and so on. Their attitude pretty much was go fuck yourself, It will be done when it's done. They will never get my business again and I tell everyone I know not to buy anything from them.

My name is Kurt K. I provide that so that Tactical Rifles attorney can identify me. I have received threatening emails from their current attorney, named Jennifer Englert at theorlandolawgroup.com

I thought I purchased a tactical rifle M-40 back in February 2012. Paid with a credit card and absorbed a percentage fee for using it because TR does not like credit card purchases. At the time, my purpose for using a credit card was because I wanted the consumer protection it provided. I am thankful I used a credit card. After I had not received my rifle build in the allotted time, I inquired about the delay. I was given a variety of explanations about why my rifle was not ready after 8 months promised. David was insistent about how any inquiry delayed the manufacturing process. After 1 year, I got really inquisitive. I got the cold shoulder. I pursued a credit card dispute and won. Then the attorney letters began. I am now in a battle with the law firm which wants me to buy the rifle that was due half a year ago, and then they will drop the suit. LOL. Bring it on. I have a ton of emails and Florida law on my side. My credit card saved the day. Do not give this company cash, in my opinion.

Deja Vu,

Their history here speaks for itself, there is reason you will find no discussion of these rifles on Sniper's Hide, as I bring to your attention, my response to a letter from the Attorney for Tactical Rifles, they failed to respond to me too... and I was so polite.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Dear David Rooney,

Today i received your letter from the Law Offices of John Schwartz, and immediately after reading it one word comes to mind, laughable.

I would welcome the opportunity to defend any of those points in Federal Court, as we both know they are all false and in fact empty threats. Having a lawyer send a letter does not in anyway mean you have any grounds to stand on and in fact only burned any bridge leading to Sniper's Hide you might have had a chance of crossing.

First point, there was not a single point of slander, I understand you had your surrogate post on many sites from Sniper's Hide to Sniper Central, and M4Carbine in order to solicit interest about your rifles. However this back fired as the <span style="font-weight: bold">reputation as read on multiple forums points to an issue of Quality Control which has been experienced by me, first hand.</span> In case your wondering my experience as an industry expert is well known and well regarded, so at no point did I or anyone else engage in public or private "slander" of you or your company. You may not have liked the "reviews" your rifles received, by end users, however these were all factual representations of actual experiences using them. The main point of slander is "falsely" and clearly nothing represented was false as I have a full class of witnesses which I would be happy to parade into Federal Court in order to prove my experience beyond any shadow of a doubt. I don't think it would be hard to use the power of my forum to mine of those, other than myself who have had a some what questionable experience similar to mine.

Next, other builders posting under other names is also a false statement. And if you have evidence of it happening in regards to Tactical Rifles or anyone else within the last 4 years I would welcome evidence. Unknown to those who promote this myth, this happened one time over 4 years ago and since that time Sniper's Hide has installed an option that seeks out multiple accounts and reports on anyone attempting to use more than one account directly to me when and if it happens. I would gladly open up my site's control panel in court and on the record, of the fact that no one, especially a rival gunsmith is engaged in this activity. We actively seek out and punish anyone attempting to engage in this practice and I can tell you that many members have been permanently banned for attempting such things. What happened over 4 years ago to another builder, namely Tac Ops has no bearing on what happened to you. And I'm fully aware of your conversations with Mike of Tac Ops, as this something he promotes but fails to inform that it happened approximately 5 years ago and since that time adjustments to the running of the site has been enabled and dealt with.

As far as denying you access to defend your company on Sniper's Hide, again this is completely false. You never attempted to once contact me on this matter or log onto Sniper's Hide. I will remind you of the incident when a disgruntled employee attempted to attack Tactical Rifles and he was promptly removed by me without any word from you. Afterwards you had no problem reaching out to me giving me thanks for such actions. I happen to still have the email from 2008 when this took place and the exchange between you and I that followed. You are lying when you say you were denied access to the forum. There is no method to deny anyone access who doesn't wish it, and nothing was put in place to block you. You were able to unleash a host of surrogates on Sniper's Hide to speak on your behalf, including certain gun writers who reviewed your rifles. Also the original surrogate who wrote the original post was in contact with you as it was told to me that he forwarded my private message to him on to you. None of those people were prevented from posting and in fact I only closed the post and then deleted at your urging through a 3rd party.

Let's face it, you knew how to reach me has evidence by a previous incident with one of your disgruntled employees, you were able to reach people who immediately called me and it was told to me you were going to <span style="font-style: italic"> "put some fear into me" </span> with a letter from an attorney or something to that effect. This is nothing more than a emotional response to something out of your control and has no basis in the facts of the matter. It was 100% made up by you in an effort to force a position or change something you didn't like and has no legal grounds. If you feel this matter does have legal standing I have an attorney in FLA and would be happy to sit across a table from you, as this isn't my first rodeo and I will not let these blatant falsehoods stand undefended.

I sincerely hope this wasn't your 2010 sales and marketing strategy, threatening the owner of the most popular Tactical Rifles forum on the internet, as I think you have failed completely in your efforts.

Good Day Sir,

Frank L.</div></div>

So here we are two years later right back to the same place with the same old problems we have witnessed before.

Pure perfection!
I enjoyed every last word

They obviously out sourced the job to the gunsmiths in Peshawar, Pakistan who had their novice smiths do the work.

Bump. For both personal reasons as well as the public interest I am bumping the post up. There comes a point when enough time passes that a line is crossed over from an obscenely long wait and simply not getting the rifle. Several of us are at about 1.5 years. There are others who have endured much longer periods.

The only excuse I ever got was "we are waiting on a key component that is backordered" but they couldn't tell me what the component was. [...] According to her he was a total douche bag and was very rude. He said that calling and checking on the status wasn't going to speed it up.

Sounds like SOP for more than one gun builder you read about on the Hide.

The problem was that TR wasn't/isn't paying their vendors. I have had rifles built by 2 other smiths here on the Hide, both of them were very clear about how long parts took to order. If you have a doubt about a part and the vendor then call the vendor. That is exactly what I did.

That's cool that Mark Soulie of Spartan Precision was able to salvage the rifle. The inside of the stock looked terrible, like they took a pencil grinder and simply hogged it out by hand. +1 to Mark for using an Interapid indicator.

Ive heard nothing but great things about spartan, i believe "brilliant" was the most common description of their work. Tactical rifles on the other hand, not so much.

friends dont let friends buy from TR.... they talk a great game but totally suck. i had them do a build sheet up for me a couple of years ago and they didnt even put my requested specs on the down on it, that was the deal breaker for me and am i glad of it today.

Saw him at the NRA show with his chest stuck out as the common folk drooled over his tactical rifles. My buddy who knows I'm into precision shooting said "hey why didn't we stop at that booth?" I replied in a very loud voice,"cause that dude is a major douche bag"

Bumpity, bump, bump, bump.

The emptiness of unanswered phone calls and the eerie silence of emails blasted off into electronic dust which fall sprinkled somewhere over Rooneyland has, to me, become a trademark of tacticalrifles.net. I have had the occasional doubt of his very existence; surely there is some West African cabal, much like the ones who so heavily populate my spam folder with promises of instant cash deposits from deceased relatives previously unknown to me, that are behind the TR front. However, there is some evidence that he remains on this earth and breathing as the posts before this one indicate sightings. I have reason to doubt that the lawyer representing him (or a reasonable effigy, at least) is making the occasional foray above ground to snipe at his detractors before disappearing down some acrid manhole cover is performing without a renewed retainer. Which I take to mean that some other hapless soul has forked out cash supporting this theatre of the absurd. God knows I did my part.

Perhaps a ride to Zephyrhills is in order. I have a growing desire to vouch for myself the workshop of Floridian elves so tirelessly assembling rifles like the one that got this whole thread started.

These words are not the opinion, stance, conjuring, scribbling, or otherwise bourne of, or at the behest of, the administrators, owners, moderators, board of directors, or anyone employed by this web site. They are mine and mine alone. Other than enjoying the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts (as much as the interweb allows), taking some pleasure in the vulgarity of Maggie's Drawers, and finding new avenues to squander my money, I am not affiliated with this web site.

No I don't. I just want other hide members to see this so others don't get screwed by these guys as well...hence my asking to pin this to the top. Thanks for calling me out though...

So in a thread dedicated to TR downfalls and mishappenings you just chime in 3 times in a row with senseless drivel?

Ya ok..... "good morning" and "I just want to say thanks to those that serve out country" are right on topic here!

I am sorry but "Bump" and "BTT" are not long enough to reply in the quick response and I am on my piece of shit Droid that has cracks all over the screen. Kiss my ass!!!! You whining bitches must be the next round of "Tactical" Rifles' wolves in sheep's clothing...giving me shit for trying to help others avoid this POS company.

Judging you by your tag line and having an issue with my thanking the troops on MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND...you might want to rethink your freedoms to be on this great site and criticize another proud American. Damn communist!

Says the guy derailing a thread, which if you read the rules...... it is against them. Go to the appropriate forum if you want to get off track. I respects our current and past soldiers, and celebrate them like every other good hearted American on this fine weekend.

What exactly have you aided people in doing in this thread?

Watch your manners buddy. Just move on before you dig yourself into a hole you can't climb out of.

Eastern and others dial it down a few notches and keep the thread on track with no attacks.

I don't know if Frank is still at Cup or not, but I'd like to know if there's been any further correspondence from TR or their lawyers. Maybe they finally realized they have no case here and tucked their tail in hopes that this would blow over; which is a shame because they were given an opportunity to come on here and do right by their customers. This can be a tough crowd but history here has shown that honesty and quality service CAN yield forgiveness and a clean slate.

Words rung true... But, I am not that tough of a customer. I didn't let out a peep until I was several months behind the delivery date and had been given excuses that turned out to be quite false. And of course after the com went silent. More than once in my career I have had to swallow some pretty rancid crow, but the truth will set you free. One thing I know for sure about my career, and the many wonderful people with whom I have worked, both those skilled and those woefully under equipped, is that 10 years down the road what people will really remember is what you were like to work with and your integrity. I believe in the goodness of most people as I have been forgiven transgressions. But the longer you lean into the shadows of untruth the more difficult it becomes to resolve an issue such the one at hand.

I have had an instance of poor service from a smith that is held in high regard here on the Hide. He made it right and aside from the com between us never another word of the issue was spoken. To others I speak quite highly of him and recommend him. But the case of TR has become an interminable epic, and not just for me. There are numerous TR customers that have found each other through various web sites and it has taken the form of some sort of unfortunate support group. So here we are. And this is how I am not that tough of a customer... If I receive a rifle that is true to the specs promised I shall not let that go unnoticed. I believe that is the right thing to do. I do not think that I speak for myself alone when I say that David has an opportunity at this very moment to make things right, even if that means he can't deliver every rifle today or next week, but if he were to simply make his apology and his state his plan going forward, as a gentleman. And then get on with the business of delivering what he has promised and, more to the point, what has been paid for.

I agree completely that this is an important topic and I am thankful to Frank and others that we have a forum to discuss such matters, and to bring them to light. I just ask that we not let the anonymity of the internet cloud our judgment is the use of words. In spite of my occasionally sarcastic language (that I would use in person, in front of any crowd), for me and others this is a quite serious matter due to the funds laid out.

We had a shoot off between myself and another fellow shooting a TR rifle at a sniper class I attended. He was shooting a TR and I was shooting my APA. Needless to say I walked away with the prizes. Thanks again Jared.

I am helping by getting the word out. I posted this forum link on Facebook!!

My Grandpa is Russian, he had a word for "workmanship" like that. "Iz gopi ruchki rastut" Roughly translates as "that due has arms growing out of his ass" because that is the only way some one could drop the ball so badly.

Could be worse, I am 19 months on a rifle I was told 10 months worst case scenario.

Didn't Todd give them a plug in the magpul Art of the Precision Rifle series?

I'm guessing he received a few rifles for free or at a significant discount. There are too many horror stories on the web for that to not be the case.

Bet none of em shoot. That DVD was littered with corporate sponsorship and product placement anyways.

As the months have passed (years, in fact), time has grown longer. The first several months felt like.... well, about half of a year. The next 6 months lasted about a year. The 6 months after that also lasted about a year, but the back ache given to me by TR made it seem much longer. In the months since then I have had a rifle built by Short Action Customs (should have it in hand by next Monday or so), so that has shortened time just a tad. 19 (NINETEEN) months in total... The original delivery schedule was 6 months. So we know that Rooney Time is at least three times what those Romans of yore had in mind way back whenever they counted the period between new moons. Maybe it was originally Greek, I can't recall after so much agave juice (if you ever get down around Key Largo stop by Alabama Jack's for the conch fritters). Oh yes, Romulus... so it seems Rooney has given Romulus the finger (along with me and others around here). Back to the top of the thread we go.

This is a public service announcement. Color commentary is purely an aside.

Still no rifle, been over 3 years and 6k down the drain. No response to emails sent.

About two years ago I spoke with David Rooney. He was selling pretty hard. I took to his words with a grain of salt. I looked around at the market. I also looked at what he required to "begin the rifle." He called me back and was very vocal on following up with me to get the sale. I'll say that his salesmanship isn't lacking one bit. However, a rifle that needs that much fluff scares me. With that much fluff and the price tag to double down scares me more. I went with my instincts and ran in the other direction. Glad I did.

It took me three seconds to find stellar reviews on most other manufacturers/builders out there. There were definitely some complaints about EACH and EVERY manufacturer out there at some point. That's why it's called quality control and not quality assurance aka customer service. The only time i become very skeptical as to a manufacturer is when I start seeing consistent reviews about quality assurance. So I turned from Tacticalrifles.net and washed my hands of it.
