So I got a good deal on a police turn in G22. Wanted a compact or subcompact but its the grip that gets you in CCW sooo....I chopped my Grip from G22 length to fit the G23 mags. Left the tail on there so the mag sits flush like on the sub compacts. Attached is a finished pic and a comparison (I hope).

May go all the way down to G27 size eventually but I wanted to do the mid size first in case I messed it up. Definitely going to radius the backstrap a bit more first though. All done with a knife, sandpaper, and patience.

Let me know what you think.

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

That turned out very nice. I like how the mag sits flush.

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

I finally did this with a 17, it IS the way to go.

I wonder when Glock USA will offer this as a factory option.

Good luck

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

I think it is a good idea
the 27 size may be to small, i think you got it right!

Sure you show yours with a light box and talk about how they're crappy pics haha. I show mine on a coffee table with shit everywhere and pics taken on a cell phone lol.

Haven't quite decided how I feel about stippling yet. Is it functional? Hell yes. Am I concerned it's going to look like a piece of plastic I poked at with a soldering iron? Hell yes. If I do it it is only going to be the panels where the factory texture is. I do however like the reduction on your grip. May be a touch small for my hands but it looks like it would point better than mine does right now. Did you do it with the candle method or epoxy? I also like your magwell and trigger guard. Thanks for sharing

Problem is I kind of want to get rid of the hump. Doing so is pretty much going to require I at least do the backstrap. The gun naturally points high for me (common problem I know). I shoot it very well when I'm paying attention but snap shooting, not so much. Maybe I can train it out of me but then everything else will probably point low. Decisions decisions.

To everyone else thank you for the compliments. Probably going to carry it like it is for a while and see how often I feel that a G27 sized grip would make a difference for concealability. If I decide its huge but I like it the way it is I might just go buy a 27 or a 23 and cut that to 27.

imho: I think the compact grip size is perfect for carry, wouldn't want a shorter grip unless it came that way. Can always take away but once its gone, its gone. . . . Well, at least without major mods.

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

I was just messing with ya on the pics but if that's just a piece of paper in the garage I'm damn impressed.

I like the compact grip size as well. I think if I want anything smaller ill just go get a cm9 or something. If you cut it down to subcompact size and didn't like it, I bet you could plastic weld on one of those A+G grip extenders to bring it back up to compact size

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

I had Michael At CCA make my 19 into a 19 with a 26 grip size.

I've always liked the CCO in the Government Model/1911 style handguns. The shorter grip allows for easier concealed carry and the mid length barrel is better for shooting.

I do use the Pearce finger grove +1 on my short G26 mags for carry. The front of the grip is longer, but the rear is short and covers the back of the mag so I don't give up grip comfort or concealability.

A perfect combination in my book.

I believe Michael has a picture of my G19 on his web site.

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

I think a 19/26 would be great - esp for AIWB

A 34/19 has been pretty good too, but I think I like it best with the 17/19.

Good luck

I'm pretty sure I have seen your gun then. I have looked for quite some time at pictures prior to doing mine. Did cutting it to g26 size eliminate the hump as well?

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

That's pretty slick. Dig how you left the tail for flush mag. Thinking I should do that to mine as well. Then pick up some 19 mags when this panic is over.

It did relieve some of the hump of the G19, but left just enough for my hand to be comfortable as in a standard 17 or 19 grip, I usually have too much of the top of the slide visible when I bring it up instinctively. This way it holds in a much better firing position and I see only sights when I look over the top for a shot.

Do it and then post pictures! Honestly It is extremely easy if you're patient about it. Grab a good sharp knife and keep it angled so you're not going to make any huge accidental slices. When you get so the mag almost seats switch to sandpaper and clean it all up.

All told it prob took me an hour and a half maybe two hours. People may laugh because it can be done in 5 minutes if you're good or if you don't care if its sloppy. I wanted it to look right to me and I'm a tough customer.

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

As for being concered about stipling why not just grip tape it. Its a good completly removable option. I am running grip tape from dawson precision that comes pre-cut to fit my G34 and I love it. Before I got the pre-cut stuff I just got a roll of grip tape from the hardware store and taped the grip up myself that worked but it didnt look as refined.

Re: Glock 23 Long Slide

Well I put around 220 rounds down range last night. I like it and so does everyone who shot it. Had no issues keeping it in a 4" circle @ 50ft. I do however have to work on the magwell a bit to get mags to drop free when empty.

Friend of mine is considering trading his g19 for a 17 and letting me do the same thing to it. He shot much tighter groups and felt he was back on target with my 22 faster than his 19.

I don't think I'm going to take it down any further than where it is now.
