Hard rifle case suggestions?

So i've got a custom 260 remington being built and was beginning to look for options to transport it. It's going to be a 24" barrel, sitting in a 2.0 AICS folder. I already own 2 rifle cases (Pelican and a Plano), although i'm wondering about length. Obviously the 2.0 folds, and cuts down on length considerably but that of course adds to the needed height on the interior specs.

I was thinking the following would be a great option. I've go the smaller version of this (38" version and it's an absolute beast).

Just looking for any other suggestions you fellas might have. I've had nothing but great experience with Pelican/storm, but i like to check out all quality options.

Thanks.

I've got the pelican 1750 and would recommend that if you need the security. But it's a beast. Not sure if that rifle would fit in the shorter version. If it would I would probably go for that since it would be a more compact package. The only thing I hear is that the Large storm case is designed to have the ability to stand upright, which after using the pelican would be a nice luxury to have if you wheel it around.

Get the Storm, it will stand on its end, this is important while in line at the airport.

Mine is a couple of years old so I can't speak for the newer models. I wasn't aware of them not having the ability to stand vertically.

Before you go off spending the money on a Pelican/Storm/etc. hard case and dealing with the bulk, weight, etc., ask yourself whether or not you really WANT or NEED the hard case. I only say that because while you can't beat the level of protection afforded by them, they are more of a pain/inconvenience/etc. for just the casual trip to the range in the trunk, truck bed, etc. All I run are the Pelicans/Storms/Starlights for air travel or where they'll run the risk of being handled by people other than me...a really nice dragbag or soft case really does the job 99% of the time for me.

As to whether or not you want the smaller, 1700/3100, cases and to run the rifle folded up or whether you want to go with a longer case is your call. Its nice to have the extra room in the larger case for addt'l mags, parts, accessories, but the compactness of the shorter cases and leaving the rifle folded is a big bonus too depending on how you are traveling. It all comes down to personal preference and what all you want/need in the case at one time.

I just went down stairs to double check and stood my 1750 on end. I also looked at the bottom (left side with the wheels on it while viewed from the front, handle and latch side) and it has protrusions to act as stabilizing feet. Got it from cabelas store front for 175 with one of the coupons they regularly send out.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll shop around and see what kind of deals are out there while i'm waiting on my build. Tired of looking at insanely overpriced ammo at the moment lol.

Been looking at the same thing,

Although it seems most people store AICS 2.0 rifles without the stock folded in the case.

I would love to see someone who fit one in a pelican folded

I like the latched on the Storm cases better than on my Pelican cases. My Pelicans are older so I'm not sure if they have upgraded to the Storm style latches or not.

I got my pelican about a year ago and there are a couple of situations where it will stand on end but for the most part it is unstable and not properly suited to stand on end.

Pelican actually purchased Storm as a secondary line. The storm is an awesome case and will stand on end , but its not quite the quality as the 1750, now are any of the Storm casess. The latches are quite different.....

You really can't go wrong with a Pelican or (Pelican) Storm. I just got my first Storm, and actually prefer it to the 3 Pelican cases I have. The latches are better IMO (you have to push the button to release...as opposed to just pulling it on the Pelican), it has a latch on each end, it's a touch lighter, and they're 3/4" deeper. That 3/4" helps a bit when trying to drop the drag bag/etc (with rifle) into the hard case. Like I said though, they're both so good it's down to personal preference.

Agree with ORD though...I think it sucks for daily duty. It drove me nuts...and ended up with a drag bag. Then pulled the foam on the 1750, and it drops right in...rifle and drag bag together.

As far as to fold or not to fold...I tried it initially, but the rifle ends up so thick that it didn't leave much padding b/t the rifle and the case shell....especially since the AI (well, other than $20k PSR) folds opposite the bolt, leaving the folded portion of the stock to be countersunk down into the bottom layer of foam (if you want it installed bolt side up for airline travel.) I decided that unfolded in a larger case was less hassle.

Was there really any other answer to this question.

Pelican or nothing,

My LMT lives in a 1720 case, and my TRG is going to live in a 1750 case when they are out of the house. My camera gear lives in a couple of 1450 cases when I feel it might need the extra protection for a particular trip

i like my pelican 1750 but got a great deal on a skb mil std 42 in. i like they warranty and gauranty it is tough.

SKB will insure your weapon for up to $1500 if a commercial airline carrier damages your rifle while secured in their ATA rated case.

Agree with ORD. Have multiple Pelican cases for weapons and they can't be beat when flying or long traveling, but a pain lugging them to and from the range. Using only a soft case for my new DTA SRS, which can fold out to a shooting mat, if necessary. Much more user friendly and practical! Just a thought.

Amazed that no one has suggested the Boyt hard shell cases. They come in various sizes and for one gun or two. They're just as strong as the Pelicans, but have way better latches, which are engage, twist and lock. And at least at my LGS, are a whole lot cheaper. They come with three customizable foam layers.

If you look on ebay you can get 1720/1750 cases every day for less than 230 bucks shipped all day long. I think I paid 190 shipped for my 1720 and 230 shipped for my 1750
