Savage 10 FCP HS Line no longer shipped with pictured HS Precision stock

I recently purchased a Savage 10 FCP HS 5R and this is the result. i wanted to get this information out to the public for a few reasons. One, i'm not sure that what i'm being told is correct and feel like i'm being led along as to not create a problem for Savage. And two, if what Savage has told me is correct their customers are in for a big surprise as their HS line of FCP's will be shipped with a stock that is completely different that the one they think they will be getting. I realize that the 5R is a different gun to a minimal degree and an exclusive run of guns. But as Savage has confirmed, still falls into the FCP HS line of guns, and should be fitted with all the same equipment, with an exception of barrel threading and rifling.

Let me start this with the preface that I have never had any issues with the quality of Savage firearms and they continue to maintain a standard of excellence and accuracy that for production guns is outstanding.

However: buyer be ware. The item that is pictured on Savages site is not the one that you will be receiving this items (19056) is in fact a Savage 10 FCP, but it is not shipped with the HS Precision stock that is depicted (HS PST114). The stock it is shipped with is the HS PSS001 (except for the Savage variant), a completely different stock. The barrel is also fluted.

Now none of these things are necessarily bad with the exception that it is not the gun that I wanted, nor under the impression that I ordered. I am not unhappy with the firearm and its fit and finish are excellent. Its just not the gun I thought I was getting.

Buds Gun Shop told me that it was a Savage problem. For the record, I spoke to a man who was very helpful but informed me that BUDS DOES NOT OPEN THE BOXES WHEN THEY ARE SHIPPED TO THEIR FACILITY FROM THE MANUFACTURE. The man stated that the items are processed in and held until purchased. He basically stated to me that no one at Buds would have known the wiser about the stock and that they use the description on Savages web page for the item being sold. I sincerely hope that I misunderstood him, or he was mistaken about this matter.

I run a business dealing with firearms and have done so for quite a while and every item that is purchased from a manufacture on my end, is inspected for QC before it is ever made available to the customer. No exceptions.

Before I called savage I called HS to find out which model numbers were sold to Savage for the FCP line. I asked the man I spoke to if he could pull up the web site and review the picture of the savage 10 FCP HS and tell me what stock he thought it was. He stated it appeared to be the PST114, which he later confirmed was one of only 2 stock that savage bought directly from them.

I spoke with Savage about the matter and NO ONE could tell me anything about this gun. I had to weasel and bully my way all the way up to the president of the company (who I never spoke to) until I could get an answer.

I finally got to some one that asked me to send a picture of which I did, later advising me that it looked like my gun was shipped with the wrong stock and would have someone contact me to fix it. (I later received a phone call back from Buds advising me that they believed the gun had been shipped to them with the wrong stock as well)

Savage told me that this gun IS an exclusive series and has been in limited production. (they did not tell me who for) The woman I spoke to advised me that she did not understand why I was upset if the gun I had received actually had an HS Precision stock on it. When I explained the difference in the two stocks she requested a picture of which I had already sent in to Savage. After reviewing the picture she stated to me that there was no problem…. Not understanding all of this I nearly exploded. She further stated that this was the same line as the FCP HS with a different barrel and should be shipped with an HS stock. After calming down I asked why the pictured stock was different than the one I received? I was advised that the engineering department at Savage had decided to make a change to the style of stock that WILL and ARE being put on to the ENTIRE HS line of FCP’s. (I find this really hard to believe)

The woman informed me that even if I sent the stock back to them and requested a correct stock it would be the same one that I have. Savage part number 106648, is no longer the HS Precision PST114 (according to this woman). Savage reps were not able to tell me which HS stock I even had. The woman stated that “Savage does not have that information on hand, only the designated Savage part number. (106648)”

SO… This is an excellent looking gun. But it is not shipped with the pictured HS stock and has an addition of fluting in the barrel. Which I was also later told is standard for this exclusive gun. And is also left out of the description as shown at Buds Gun Shop and on the Savage website.

In all of this, and spending a grand on the gun no one offered to have the firearm returned, or a new, (or now I guess old) stock shipped to me. NO one offered to fix the problem and basically just said sorry our picture is wrong.

If what I being told is correct then the HS 5R is a COMPLETELY different gun than the standard FCP HS, meaning that as an "exclusive" item should have a separate description naming why. But Savage has told be this is not correct, because it is just an FCP HS with 5R barrel rifling. Kind of contradictory if you ask me.

It is my belief that one of two things has happened with this gun. Because it is an “exclusive” item, was never intended to have the HS PST114 and was never intended to be advertised out side of the exclusive distributor, therefore no actual description existed, leaving that task up to the distributor who is selling it. Or Savage shipped it with the wrong stock and is reluctant to fess up to the matter.

I think it is absolutely insane that I was told what I was in regards to an “engineering department change” and the image online is still the “old” stock. For the simple matter that this now impacts thousands of buyers, who have no idea that the stock model has changed.

Smells like sh** to me…

Any one out there in have an FCP HS 5R that they can confirm or deny what I have been told? Can anyone post a Picture of their gun so I can see? I researched this gun quite a bit on this forum as well as others before buying it and never came to the impression it was shipped with anything other that the stock it was pictured with.

I wanted the 5R barrel and to me the stock was an addition (though a very expensive one). My argument to the woman at savage was that I would not have purchased this gun if I would have known it came with a different stock. That’s when she basically said sorry our picture is wrong…

I am still not convinced that what I was told is entirely correct. I don’t have a lot of experience with 5R barrels but I counted 5 lands and grooves so I think I’m good there. But I also wanted the HS stock that was pictured and now have the same type of stock that is on my Remington, which I wanted an upgrade from. Needless to say I am happy I have a new gun, but fairly pissed about the whole deal in general.

I just ordered the 110 FCP HS in .338 LM a couple weeks ago. I guess we'll see when it comes in. I won't be too happy if this is true.

Post some pictures. According to HS website the PSS001 is for an ADL. Are sure it's not the same stock found on a r700 police

Having a hard time finding pics, but I'm pretty sure the savage 5r always came with a Monte Carlo style HS stock. The 10fcp HS precision comes with the tactical stock. Nothings changed. I think you just misread something.

Everything you buy from buds is dropped shipped from the distributor. Buds doesn't lay a hand on the guns. That's why there prices are so lowing killing the rest of us dealers.

Just a suggestion, but why not do the same thing? A lot of business models have not properly adapted to a smaller world / improved logistics and communications; example is mattress stores where people go to try out different products and brands that they subsequently purchase online for 50-75% of the brick & mortar price. Sound familiar? :)

In any event, if you have even a simple website, you should be able to process your own drop ship orders. Keep your storefront prices where they are, but offer your customers the option of discount prices if they acquiesce to a lead time. You still get to make a small margin with minimal handling, and can instead shift your focus to services that are 80-100% profit margin, excluding your own time. I have not been retained to provide business consulting to gun stores in the past, but this would be the core focus of my approach if I ever had the opportunity.

Are you looking for this stock?:

And you got this stock?:
http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/10FCPK

Or this stock?
http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/12FCV

I should say rifle, but without the brake on it. I have an 12FCV with the Accustock. It was a big time savings over getting the HS Precision.

The strange thing was when I got the box it said model 10.

I think Savage has gotten into changing models so fast, they may not know what they've got. Nice that they offer upgrades and differences. It isn't really good from a marketing standpoint to be progressing so fast your website can't keep up.

For what it's worth, I also once spoke to a grade "A" bitch at savage. I'm still pissed about it. My one experience with savage customer "service" could not have been worse. I'll never buy another.

If it was a 5R gun it was most likely a Acusport exclusive.

Yep!

Savage has always been good to me on phone.

It may also be that they are less up to speed in Savage headquarters on THIS 5R model. They don't make, afaik, nearly the number of these as other models. (special run) Maybe Monday explain this on phone...may get you in different hands in office?

Very confident it will get sorted out with you happy. Think positive and stay persistent!
It sucks getting anything that you bust your butt for and have crap happen! Sorry!

Because most dealers don't have the option of drop shipping. It still has to ship to an ffl holder. I run my business and do fairly well. Just don't come in an ask me to price match buds and then when you ask to have a rifle transfered from buds don't complain when it's a $40 fee versus a $15 xfer fee.

As far as savage goes IMO they have the worst customer service. To customers and dealers.

I just ordered one also. It's still at my FFL. I was a little unhappy when it arrived with a different stock. I too called Savage and they told me it was their "new stock" and their website has not been updated. I forgot to check the gun over while I was there. Did yours come with one or two swivel studs.

Are you sure? I am not aware of any distributors that offer this with guns and most offer free shipping anyway.

They just sell everything at a very low margin

If they are selling you rifles advertised as one thing and shipping you something different, especially if w are talking tactical stock vs Monte Carlo, you have a legitimate gripe. I would be taking legal action!
Now, if i ordered what i thought was an HS precision and ended up with a manners or McMillan stock I'd keep my mouth shut!
I have the fcp HS precision. I'm not terribly fond of the stock. The palm swell is huge and cumbersome, and there's a tuning fork "Ting" when you snack the side of it, like the pillar is disbonded or some of the plies are delaminated. I'm actually treating into it right now, adding an adjustable cheek and but piece and inletting for a larger barrel so i hope i find the source and can fix it.

Mine was shipped with two studs. I'm glad i'm not the only one that has been told this.

I wanted the first stock which as far as HS Precision is concerned is the PST114, the other two stocks are not HS Precision. Though the accustock is a good stock its not as good as the HS. I also wanted the 5R rifling and threaded barrel. The gun as advertised by buds was exactly what I had been looking for.

The problem with big businesses like savage is that they have forgotten what it is to one, be a consumer, and two be a small business surviving on your own word and consistent product. I build guns for people on a small scale, however small scale, these guns before all of the gun scare of 2013 still cost upwards of around $2500. Now I don't think I can build one for less than 5k. If I did what savage did to me and told my customer "well sorry I changed my stock design and didn't tell anyone" my business would be shot for a good long time. I don't build a lot of guns, but the ones I do build I will stake my name to and the people that buy them respect the fact that when I tell them something about their gun they can be confident in it's truth and validity.

Positive. 90% of there orders are drop shipped from distributors around the country. I don't know how they set it up but one of very few if not the only "shop" that does so. Many times their prices are below wholesale and Its not due to sheer volume.

Man, I would be pissed too if that is what I got. Totally different from what was described. Sorry for the original poster but thanks for letting the rest of us know.

You have every right to be pissed at both Buds and Savage.

Shitty Customer Service all around. If I treated my customers/stakeholders like that, I would be looking for a new job tommrow.

In fact, based on what you just said, I am inclined not to purchase products from their place unless they resolve this.

Take names, take notes, and run it up the chain. Owners start to take notice when customers note their CS reps are costing them business.

Anything less than a full refund / partial refund or shipping it back on their dime to correct it is the wrong answer.

90% of their [Bud's Gun Shop] orders are drop shipped? Where did this number come from? I have visited Bud's, they have a very large operation and 1000's of firearms. So far as they are the only online seller that can and does drop ship-far from true, very far! Spend a few minutes looking at online dealers-many list almost every firearms made! But they don't have them, not by a long shot, why is Bud's able to sell cheaper than others? Better business model I guess. I would ask for a full refund, Bud's normally has very good customer service, 10s of thousands of customers have purchased more than once from Bud's, I can only conclude they were happy the first time. I'm sorry you had a problem, get a refund and start over-it may be a good idea to purchase from a local dealer, pay a few hundred more, but you'll be able to see it before you but it.

I received my Savage 10 FCP-HS last week and it has the same stock shown on the website and Buds? Did you receive a Monte Carlo Stock? If so I would not have accepted it from Buds!!!

OH i hate to hear this. I just purchased the savage 19056 from buds last friday. I actually had the 10fp-sr in layaway and paid the restocking fee to get the HS precision for the tactical stock. The Savage 19056 is what I have been wanting for some time. I was super excited to find it back in stock last friday.

I have called savage and the CS rep told me that the stock should be the same HS stock as the model 18139-10FCP HS Precision, as listed on their website.

I called Buds and asked them to verify before shipping and they told me they wouldnt do that. Their CS rep said for me to just refuse the FFL transfer and contact them and they would do a 100% refund if it found to not be what savage stated.

I am hoping it to be as advertised, and if not I will give Savage or Buds a chance to make it right. If they dont I will probably seek legal action. The amount of money involved is considerable to me, but what really ticks me off is the principle of the matter. If you are going to do sales with sight unseen to your buyers, you need to be sure your product is accurately described.

Buds website says pics might not represent actual product. I had that rifle, it is nice. The savage website rifle that is showed in the link is not a 5r or threaded muzzle, it does have the better stock though. I would talk to buds first and see what they want to do. Then proceed. Might not be possible to get that stock on a 5r threaded muzzle barreled action. If i ordered the model 10 hs precision that is shown on savages website and it came in being different i would contact savage

*clap* *clap* *clap* I have made that exact argument.

MonroeAG- Please give me a moment to look into this and contact you via private message so I can get an understanding of what happened and how to proceed.
Thank you-
Paul Smarrelli
Director of Customer Service
Savage Arms, Inc

Oh wow, that's top notch right there. Savage on this website. I'm pumped I joined up on the forum. I hope they get it resolved for you Monroe. That's right proper of you Paul.

let us know how it all turns out. there is a post a couple threads up of someone who got a LRP that arrived with the vertical grip stock.

As of 02-27-13 I received a phone call from Savage. I spoke with Paul Smarrelli. First and foremost he apologized multiple times for the way the situation was handled. Secondly, advised that “no such engineering change was made at Savage” explaining that the 5R was, is, should have been, and will continue to be shipped with the HS tactical stock, not the Monte Carlo stock. Paul advised me he was unsure of why I had been told this information and that the call taker must have been misinformed or mistaken in her information.

He advised me from reading the earlier post that he had a great understanding of the situation and was not sure why it was handled in the manner that it was. In this conversation he advised it appeared that my gun had gotten through QC and shipped off with out anyone’s knowledge. Paul did not make any excuses for the incident and advised me that a new stock would be shipped to me with out further delay.

Our conversation was brief and pleasant. It should also be noted that he advised from this incident steps may be taken to re-train call takers and allow/provided them with better information to pass on to the consumer.

I brought up J_530 in our conversation as well. Paul advised me that he should have also been contacted and that his situation was being dealt with as well, and steps were being taken as we spoke, to fix whatever had happened to his order.

I appreciate the responses to this post and your support in the matter. As I stated in the original post, it was not intended to bash or be malicious to Savage but make an informative write up on the incident that had occurred and the information that had been given to me, in regards to the change in the model of HS stocks being shipped with the FCP HS line of rifles.

For clarification to all browsers: Savage has not made any changes to the FCP HS series of stocks, and will continue to be shipped with the tactical model stock. The HS 5R, though an “exclusive” run of guns, will also continue to be shipped with tactical HS stocks.

I will make a final post when the stock is in hand.

Thanks MonroeAG for bringing up my rifle as well, but I still have not been contacted by Savage. I'll give it a couple more days for them to contact me before I try calling them.

Just seeing how Savage stepped up to the plate makes me feel better about just having purchased a 10 FCP-K. It's unnerving to read about a large company mixing parts or making production changes mid stream.

I wanted to give all readers a heads up in this matter and a one up to Savage. The new stock was shipped to me Via 3 day mail and was installed on the gun shortly after. I apologies for the extreme delay in my final post. Work has been busy and our company is working on a prototype for a new AR product and has put a severe restriction on my free time.
Savage has made this right and I can’t express that enough, I was instructed to keep the stock that the gun was shipped with and no return shipping label was provided. I feel like this was more than a just compensation for the hardship. Thank you Savage.

That is awesome to hear. I've been nothing short of very happy with the Savages I've bought and the service received when I needed something from them.

This is the one I got with mine. Wasnt the one pictured but I was too anxious to go shoot it so I just lived with it. I wanted the other stock but didnt care enough to make a stink about it.

I would've been pissed...

I was told the same thing by the company who sold it that this is just how they come, and they had a disclaimer on the ad saying its a generic picture. Then a local gun store got a bunch with the correct stock but at that point I was over it and too late to bitch I guess.

I have a friend who has dealt with Paul before, actually several times, and Paul gets it straightened out on the CS side at Savage. Like many people that love the value that Savage provide, I have loads of knowledge on the changes from model to model and even special runs; However, I would imagine that it might not be as easy to find people locally in MA, who are as up to speed on all the variations. Savage should emphasis with their CS people that you will be dealing with very knowledgable consumers, they are loyal to the brand, so treat them with respect, and escalate the concerns that you do not understand ASAP for resoltution. Hopefully Paul is on that to.

I'm glad to see/hear that this model is still shipping with the HS stock as this is exactly what I plan to buy. I love my FVSR .22 so its big brother in .308 is the next logical step.

As for the Savage CS matter... I sometimes deal with CS escalations as part of my job at an international durable goods Mfg (non-firearm) and it's tough to get an entire call center, let alone a single department of that center, to sing the same song and have the same attitude.

I'm a new Savage owner, and have been extremely impressed. I've read through this entire thread, and was getting nervous... but I'm really glad to see Savage having stepped up and taken care of you. It makes me feel better about my gear now than I did before :D

Just a note. i have all savage rifles. in multiple calibers and configurations. Choate, Hs percision. only had 1 issue with a rifle none stock relate. i do have to say that after trying to get savage arms on the phone to help resolvr there help center was a little to no help. went back to store i bought it they said they could do nothing. went to my freind that works at BUDS and he got me in touch with the regional manager. after that everything got fixed and have nothing but fun punching nice tight hole in tagets
