Boycott Cheaper than Dirt forever!!!

My fault, I am agreeing with you, I was just typing fast, as I had to leave my house. No offense intended. I was speaking about mr. Economics.

Mr. Economics or Mr. Speeling Bee champ?

Yes Im on board as well. I sent them an email in regards to their pricing of magazines. A big F U!!!

We can call it whatever we want, but when someone sells something for three times what it was worth a week ago for no other reason than "because they can", it's just wrong and taking advantage of a situation. Sure it's their right, or decision, just like it is ours to tell them to screw and look elsewhere. Hopefully the panic buying will subside and prices will come back down and I won"t have to mine my backstop for lead to cast bullets. We can argue economics and look at graphs and spend all kinds of time arguing opinions, but I agree with the OP and will not buy from anyone who chooses to price their products in such a way. If it's like this two years down the road I might have to re-think it, but not now.

When we had a massive flood here locally, after the flood there were insurance companies paying for cleaning out and cleaning up, and disposing of houses. I mean literally gutting whole houses. There was HUGE deman for Dumpsters. I happen to be in the dumpster business. The demand insanly high, and the people were in a panic. Our company, a Dumpster and Demolition Company, offered a local service, and we worked massive amounts of overtime passed our regular 60hours (50 hrs is a slow week). UNLIKE CTD, we never raised our prices a dime. We didn't EXPLOIT our customers. We realized this was a win win situation for us. While other refuse hauling companies were charging out then nose taking advantage of insurance policies, we came in, hauled out, for the standard price to that county. It's been 2 years and I am still doing buisness out there as a result of helping them when their back was against the wall. You see, this AR 15 magazine price explosion is bullshit. CTD is artificially inflating the market, hurting the consumer, but they have that right, if thats their business model....to take advantange of their customers in a time of panic or need. This is NOT my companies business model. We seized the opportunity to supply a service when it was in high demand, in such a way that years later it still conjures up new private business, in a sector we had never focused on; Solid Waste Cleanup. Just think, CTD probably did more damage than they did good, but its their choice. Its their bed. They made it. Now let them seep in it. As you know, they know they pissed alot of people off, and they think that they made good buy donating tons of money to certain funds. If that clears their exploitative business model then fine, buy from them, if you think it doesn't, then don't. Go elsewhere.

Good Morning. Have a nice day snipershide.

Excellent post. As a building designer in a storm prone region, I have made a habit of maintaining prices and even giving discounts to those hurt by said storms. Many of my fellow designers took advantage of the situation to pad their own pockets. Now, in this building climate, I still do business at a pace I can live with. Many of those same opportunists are out of business. While the American consumer may have a collectively short memory regarding business (or political) practices that don't effect them directly, very few forget when they perceive a company has directly screwed them over. I hope CTD feels the pain of these choices for years to come.

And to those advocating BS economic models that only work in theory, I hope for your sake that you never have to endure an actual disaster. Telling people they should have stocked up on fuel for their generator prior to the disaster is asinine. Where exactly would they have stored said fuel when their house is now destroyed? You think a tornado, hurricane, or flood will wipe your garage out but leave that 55gal drum of gas untouched? Hiking prices ensures that those who really need a commodity can have it? Do you realize that such a fantasy only applies to people who can afford the inflated price? Even if raiseing the price of hotel rooms after Katrina ensured that rooms were available, it does no good to the people who lost everything and then had to come up with $500 for a night inside. Such a world is uncharitable, unchristian, and lacks any empathy toward the plight of your fellow man. If those are truly your views, may you reap what you sow.

300 rounds of green tip 5.56 only 399.00 ! What a bargain. I removed myself from their email this am

Why? I think it's funny as hell when the send out an email saying they have USGI magazines in stock for $99 each. It's like someone sending you jokes to keep you entertained. Let their business model come back and bit them in the ass.

That's how I feel.

I guess we found the cheaper than dirt worker.

You are going to give them all of your money because they jumped on a bandwagon for some good publicity, thanks for the laugh.
That was sarcasm. I was doing that to take a jab at all the guys that are "oh I wasn't a customer before but now I am."

Wont buy from CTD ..I understand capitalism, but i would put it to you that this is nothing more then gouging.. nothing more than taking advantage of a bad situation and putting it to people.. and if your on the other side "nobody is forcing you to buy from them" i dont care!!! its still nothing more than f**king people.

So I stop in to my local gun shop tonight and run into a friend who shows me the CTD add for 300 rounds of green tip for 399. I was there to pick up a case of 1000 they had promised me the day before. Now this is a SMALL town and the shop is about the size of some people's living room and if anybody needed to mark up prices, it's this guy. He sold me the case, that his other employee had set aside for himself and opted to sell it to me because I need the ammo for a 2 day carbine class for 450.00!! Sorry for the long story, but I wanted to show there are good guys still out there.

^^ good points. I will never buy from CTD again. They bend us over in times like this, and expect return service later. Not happening.
I was in Colonial Armory (a hide sponsor) a couple of days ago, and watched Steve sell his last 30rnd pmags to a customer for a very resonable price. He could have made a bunch of money on the guy, and blown the rest of the day at the titty bar, but he didn't. He has something called integrity! There are other good sellers on the hide too, but this was the most recent act i witnessed.

I have not bought from them since the '08 election, they did the same thing back then. There was a big run on all black rifle or high cap mags so they jacked up their prices overnight.

Tyler, what would be a better word choice for my post on CTD gouging?

Here's a qoute from Lowlight from the thread, "Price Gouging" in the reloading section.

The HIDE has not stopped using the term "price gouging" or "gouging" but members who sell at inflated prices hoping to cash in on the situation are to be called "price puffers" like peter puffers only they are blowing up the prices.

People want to argue that the term "price gouging" is a made up phrase used by politicians so we are changing that.

While we frown on Price Puffers I recommend you avoid their ads and move on ... the Price Puffers go some where to sell their wares.

If it's like this two years down the road I might have to re-think it, but not now.

Two or three years from now 99 percent will buy whatever business has the lowest price. I remember the outcry when S&W cut a deal with the Clinton administration (and when Bill Ruger made his now infamous hi-cap mag statement). Gun owners were going to drive them into bankruptcy. We all know how that worked out.

I still say it takes two to make a gouging. A co-worker suddenly became interested in ARs right after things fell apart. He managed to find one at a not too terrible price, but had only one mag. He begged me to sell some of mine. He was prepared to pay any price, but I told him to be patient. Several weeks go by and I'm in the LGS when a box of P-mags arrive. $24.95 each. He's happy he waited.
