i have recently become infatuated with building a 16" MATEN mkm extended riffle length. this being such a new product and the market being what it is right now......there is not a whole lot of reviews of the new mkm keymod and especially, not many pictures.

thought i would try my luck here. any one have any pictures? realy would like to see a 16" MATEN with the new 14" EXTENDED RIFFLE LENGTH MKM!

I should have some pics up next week. I just traded my monolithic tubular upper for the extended rifle MKM Upper. Should be sweet awesomeness...

Great thread, would like to see pics as well. Really happy to hear that production has rolled out to the consumer and looking forward to ownership as well.

Would love to hear how it feels to shoot without the aid of a bipod.

WHOA...........................that is a 16" in the 14" extended riffle length mkm?

it is even more beautiful than i had imagined.

Are the key locks on the Mega Maten MKM the same size as on the Noveske NSR?

Worth mentioning too that Seekins is planning on an AR10 platform this year.

i want to know when some one will make a decent bcg available that isn't armalite or dpms.

BTW, what break is that up there on the 16"? and how is it?

Yep that is a 16" barrel with the 14" MKM.

Nukes - Yeah all the keymod accessories are supposed to work.

Kenndapp - The brake is a Precision Armament M11.

6.81star - I'll measure in a few days but I'm guessing right around 1-7/8" or so. It's a little think but feels good as the whole rifle is a bit on the heavy side. It's stupid solid though and feels good.

The rifle will makes it's maiden voyage tomorrow to a hog hunt so hopefully it works haha.

Was it you who posted an ad on AR15? I was about to contact you regarding the trade, but the ad disappeared...Did you get the extended rifle version?

Here are two other 308 BCGs. I have a Young Manufacturing 308 National Match BCG in my MA-Ten Precision build and I'm waiting on JP Low Mass BCG for my MA-Ten MKM CQB/Lightweight build

I wouldn't Say dpms or armalite are known for quality parts. The 308 at platform is seriously lacking a quality bcg. The best thing I found so far is a Jp bolt in an young carrier. I would go entirely with jp...... But it seems they only offer a 308 bcg in a low mass configuration?

I am not sure what experiences you have with either, but I have around 20k rounds with both Armalite and DPMS style bcg's, without a problem. In my opinion, the Armalite is "better," than the DPMS. Whatever the case might be with bcg's, there's only a few companies that produce them and they get relabeled for the open market.

Although Young makes quality bcg's for the AR15 platform, there have been a few glitches with their AR10 bcg. I have owned two that have been out of spec, that needed to be modified by Young. Plus, your only avenue to get one is preowned. Young has not produced any AR10 style bcg for the past 10+ months!

BTW, the Fulton Armory carrier works just as fine or "better" than Youngs.

i was unaware that fulton was producing a 308 bcg. do they publish their materials and specs?

Do these only work with a MEGA Lower?

Thx,

BB

Yes, they only match with the Mega MATEN lower. I was lucky enough to get a lower/upper MKM rifle length set. Now, I just need everything else to build the rifle.

First post but have been a lurker for a few years. I just finished my build and thought I would share my experiences.

Receivers: Mega Arms MA Ten mkm with rifle length rail.
Barrel: DPMS Rainier Arms UM 18" with an A2 comp.
Gas block: SLR DA7 adjustable
.308 BCG: Red X Arms for DPMS
Trigger: Geissele hi-speed match
Grip: Bravo gunfighter
Selector: Bad ambi
Magazine: Seekins billet button on Norton ambi release with Magpul mag
Stock: Acs-l on a spikes buffer tube with dpms .308 carbine buffer & spring
Accessories: Atlas bipod, Burris P.E.P.R. With Fast Fire red dot & Leupold VX-R (illumination)

Pros: mkm ambi receivers has most of the parts installed that I returned my DPMS LPK and went with the ambi aftermarket parts and a little bling (Seekins mag button). Everything was so easy to install. The Geissele hi- speed match trigger works great with the bad ambi selector and did not require any filing of the selector as was mentioned in the instructions. Ordering the trigger from RA also comes with the other springs at the same time.

Observations: Information you should consider if going with the Mega Arms MKM version is the non-mil spec picatinney rail on top and the keymod one mounted at the bottom. Some Mil-spec tight tolerance precision mounts will fit loose on this platform. The side of the rail has small flutes (?) in between the rail lugs and there are holes ( haven't figured out what for) that are spread out in between every 4th lug. For those who have other AR's or picatinney rail adapters then it will not be a big deal as you can use those mounts on your other rifles. For me I couldn't use my very expensive Talley tactical crossbones scope mounts. Those scope mounts have been moved to my bolt rifles. My Atlas bipod QD fits loose but since the bottom rail is a keymod then I will be looking for aftermarket picatinnny rail from another manufacturer to replace it.

I also bought a Blackhawk! Picatinney rail adaptor for sling studs and though I am not a fan of Blackhawk! Products they really knocked this one out of the park and they are cheap. I have these mounted on all my hunting rifles. It installs in seconds, has a sling stud so I can still use my sling, and I can reuse my Atlas Bipod QD on all of them at the range.

Edit: I must say that lonewolfusmc video's were awesome when it came time to start the build. It made the setting very enjoyable and I didn't feel like I was watching your standard mono tone instruction video. Big thanks to that dude and his time spent on putting some quality videos (MCM).

Cheers

You can tighten the QD mount for the Atlas if you weren't aware.

This thread needs more maten pics......preferably some short ones?

Is that a Seekins brake on the bottom gun? How do you like it?

Yep it is a Seekins.
It isn't my first ~ I have one on a 556 build as well.
I like it fine ~ it is not as controlled as the Battlecomp but overall I like it.
The only problem I have on this one (308) is keeping it tight.
I can tighten it some more but it is then not aligned up properly.
It has come loose and I put a dab of Loctite ~ not my preferred method and you can't really shim it up to make it fit.

I plan on using it on a precision 308 Mega build and a 6.5 Grendel build. I liked that it screws off easy so I could swap it with a suppressor. Now I'm thinking twice about it if you're saying it doesn't stay tight.

The one on my 556 is fine, it's just the one on my 308 that is a little shaky.

What's wrong with Armalite and DPMS BCG's? They're both of quality. If I had to choose, it would be the JP Enterprises BCG, though.

When I build rifles myself, they all have those JP full mass carriers. They are just slick as shit. I reckon the 7.62 carriers are about the same quality as the 5.56. If so, they are the trick.

Nice gun Nutro. I see a seekins enhanced catch. I thought that 308 and 556 catches are different?

my jp 308 bolt caused problems on the maten and dpms upers.
went back to dpms and all is good.
i love my Maten setup. cant sell it .
using the PRi brake on it too

I recently finished my Maten MKM

Its a regular length rifle handguard
-JP matched barrel/bolt kit in 6.5 Creedmoor
22inch w/ adjustable gas
-JP low mass bolt
-JP silent captured buffer assembly
-Geissele national match SDM trigger
-Magpul PRS
-Accushot monopod
-Bushnell 3.5-21 G2 DMR scope in an ADM recon mount

It is a great shooter w/ less recoil than my 5.56 AR.
