So I picked up the 455 VPT a couple of days ago from a local shop. My first impression of the thing was that it was very short overall, I knew the dimensions prior but it just looks small in person to me. Anyway, picked it up and wow, what a substantial feeling rifle. It feels solid and well built. The stock is fantastic in both fit and finish as expected. The trigger is has a nice crisp feel but is heavy for my tastes. I did not make any adjustment to it on this day. The action of the bolt is smooth and precise (should get better with break in I think). Open/close of the bolt is a little rough and heavy. Took it to the range a couple of days later and my purchase was justified immediately. This thing is a tac driver. The pic of the target is at 50 yards with an 8-9 mph crosswind using RWS Match ammo. The group to the upper right is a 10 shot group. The bullseye group is a 5 shot group after scope adjustment. Sent it off already to install a tactical bolt knob and thread the barrel for a sparrow suppressor.

... hope mine shoots that well. I'm waiting on the rail from DIP so I can try it out. Nice shooting!

You are going to love it MPrimo! I have already sent it to my smith to have a tactical bolt knob installed and the barrel threaded for a sparrow suppressor. Post up when you get it.

I couldn't resist anymore. I have a Cz 455 pt on the way now. My wife is going to flip lol. I keep seeing all these nice rigs and I just had to get one. Thanks for all the reviews guys.

I hear ya EKIM1428. Mine just gave me the look. I just talked to the smith and he is going to coat barrel and action in tan for me with some Teflon stuff similar to cerakote. I am spending too much money on this thing! (What a surprise!)

I sent it to Pitchford Custom Gun Works in Waller, TX. I have heard good things about his work and he is a very nice gentleman. Owns a 452 himself. New Page 1

I really want one. I have been saving my money for one. What scope are you running on it? Will you send me some pics when you get it back from your smith. I would like to see the knob!

Will do. I put a cheap BSA tactical on it because that is all I had but I am going to probably go with a vortex or a mueller. The BSA is actually not that bad it has some cool features but I want better glass.

Not suprised it's so accurate. Shorter and fat barrels are great for accuracy. But that 5 shot group still blows me away. You'll probably need a scope with 1/8 MOA adjustments, or 1/20 mil. You'll find yourself having to hold a little off to get the bullseyes with larger click values. I know I have to, I have a 1/10 mil Vortex PST, which is not precise enough for bench. Plenty good enough for silhouette and my shooting, though. :p

so would you say it was well worth the amount you paid? i really want one and im contemplating selling two marlin 880SQs, one with the early match chamber and bedded thumbhole, and also a 410 pump to fund the purchase. i think I will be happy with the purchase.... just need to get on with the selling!

Without a doubt! I too was a little hesitant but as soon as I put my hands on it I was sold. It is very well built. Of course once at the range the purchase was really justified. Man what a shooter! Do what you have to do to get one brother. You won't be sorry!

I am deciding between VPT and the Evolution. Is the only difference the stock? Is it worth the $350 upgrade?

I wanted a trainer so for me the extra money was worth it. But if you go the Evo route you could always just buy the manners stock later I believe. You may even come upon a deal in the for sale section. The Evo is a beautiful rifle bro! The following is from the Evo page on the CZ site:

The SS Evolution stock in the “Sky” blue/grey color combination has a radical design made possible through the increased strength of hardwood laminates. While the bolt is on the right hand side, the stock design is fully ambidextrous including the cheekpiece, teardrop pistol grip and palm swell. The extreme free float provided by the SS Evolution stock design ensures the realization of the full target potential of the 455 Varmint platform. The 455 Varmint action along with the SS Evolution stock will accept any of the accessory barrels available for the 455 platform including the American and Lux (open sights) as well as other varmint weight barrels in any available caliber. A 5 rd. magazine is included.

I will order one of the 2 today. Going to get prices for each and then order one.

Shot mine yesterday for the first time. Really a lot of fun. Dime sized groups at 50 yards where not a problem. Wind was close to 15 mph at times which made 100 yard groups tough to keep small. The gun was everything I thought it would be. The factory trigger (at least on mine) is not good enough for precision accuracy but the upgrade kit is on the way. Overall impressions are extremely positive!

Where you pick that up in CT? I am looking for one.
I may order up a evolution.

Got it at Hoffman's ... last one they had left. Newington Gun Exchange had a couple but they are gone too. They are a direct to CZ dealer (or something like that) so if you want one, NGE might be your best bet.

So... the barrel is at 20.5"... wonder what would be the best length to cut it down to when threading for a can? Maybe 18"?

Got my rifle back from the smith. Fluorolon coated the entire action including bottom metal tan, added tactical bolt knob, threaded barrel, trigger job including DIP sear and yodave spring kit set to 1lb. I think it is pretty sweet. I will take it out tomorrow for some action.

That is very nice! I wouldn't have thought the single color would look nice but it does! Post some more targets when you shoot it again.

Never shot or handled a CZ. Let alone this
Model.
I'm a Ruger 77/22 guy. How do the CZ455 compare
To the Ruger?

I couldn't find one when I wanted it, but did find out that my local gunshop was a CZ dealer, and had the 455 varmint in stock with a good discount for active military, and veterans. I ran down there and bought one, then thanks to some guys here, I ordered the DIP rail for it, thanks. Like some, I found the action to close somewhat rough, but once I shot it for a bit, thatwa forgotten. I shot it with the factory trigger which has a lot more creep than I'm used to, and still did alright. I already have the yo dave trigger kit in hand, and will install it before I go out again. Eventually I will get the stock from Manners, but for now this one feels very good. Here is a picture of the rifle, a picture of two groups, and a picture of the two golf balls I bounced around at 100 yards. These rifle are extremely acurate, especially for $400.00. Congrats on yours.

STR first, thanks for your service Brother! It is because of guys like you that we all can do what we do! You got a really sweet rig there. Nice shooting too.

Drdeath the CZ's are fantastic. Extremely accurate , some say just as good as Anschutz, especially for the money. They have several models that start at about $350-$400. They seem more solidly built than the Rugers and i believe are more accurate. Try one you will like it.

erikesp, you're very welcome, and it's a pleasure to share what little I know. As some may already know, I'm a bit new to rimfire rifles. I've been involved for a grand total of about 4 months now, and I really got the bug, so now I lean on you guys that really know your stuff on rimfire. This CZ is actually my second rimfire, and just got my third which is an Anschutz 64 MPR. I want to add to the above comment comparing it to a CZ as far as accuracy goes. I have already shot both with the same ammo, and can honestly say that they are both so close in accuracy, that it's hard to see which is better. The big differences are in the quality of construction. I love both, and will keep both. I also have a 40X on it's way to me mostly because it's something with a little American history. Plus I just traded one of my rifles for a Stiller Lonestar built rifle, just because I would love to try it. I have used Stiller actions in center fire rifles for a while now, and have never regretted it. As you can see, when I get involved, I go as far as my money will let me to get the facts. I will continue to live in the rimfire section trying to learn for you all as much as possible. Thank you.

I love your rifle in that stock, and look forward to mine looking similar. I'll have to wait until next summer to do it, due to way too many irons in the fire. I'm ok with that, but I will figure out how to machine that little bolt knob off, and convert it to a bigger knob. The factory knob is just to small for a full grown mans hand.

My gunsmith machined the stock bolt knob down to make the threads. He told me that it was REALLY hard material and he had a hard time doing it. It turned out great however.
