Re: MARK YOUR CALENDARS 23-24 MARCH QUANTICO, VA

Would love to be there... but I will be 10,000 miles away... looking forward to photos and tales...

Re: MARK YOUR CALENDARS 23-24 MARCH QUANTICO, VA

While I dont have any vintage sniper rifles, is there an iron sight division for my Grandpa's M1 and my Sweedish Mauser? If not, can I just swing by and watch?

Re: MARK YOUR CALENDARS 23-24 MARCH QUANTICO, VA

Mountain, This venue is going to be for Vintage Precision Rifles, but Quantico shooting club holds Garand Matches and Vintage Rifle Matches. Feel Free to swing by and watch the match, be careful though, they are addictive. You'll find yourself wanting to buy a Mosin Sniper for the next one!

Re: MARK YOUR CALENDARS 23-24 MARCH QUANTICO, VA

I'm in. If this is half as good as the last one,it'll be great.

Is it ok to come watch? I don't have any rifles suitable for the match, but would love to see some in person!
Never been on the base before.

Re: MARK YOUR CALENDARS 23-24 MARCH QUANTICO, VA

Although I have the rifles, am thinking I will come watch/learn as this would be my first time.

Transport Firearms and Ammunition Aboard Marine Corps Base, Quantico
Quantico Shooting Club members and their guests are all guests on a military installation and are subject to its rule and regulations. The following information outlines firearm transportation and other rules that apply while visiting a military installation. Read the information carefully and remember that ignorance of the law is no defense.

Marine Corps Base, Quantico (MCBQ) is a U.S. Military Installation and Federal law applies. Like all military installations, MCBQ takes force protection seriously and all personnel are subject to their rules and regulations. The Marines are very professional and do not interfere with those who follow the rules.

Firearms Transport rules for private citizens, military personnel, and law enforcement are found in MCBQ Order 8000.1A (please click the link, read/download/print for your use) and the Provost Marshall Standard Operating Procedure. This authority requires that all personnel ensure that:
 All firearms are CASED and UNLOADED
 A cased firearm must not be readily accessible in the vehicle
 Ammo must be as far away from a cased firearm as possible; ammo should be cased, if practicable, and not readily accessible
 All magazines must be unloaded

Prohibitions of Carrying Firearms or Weapons Open or Concealed onto Federal Installations
As with each citizen’s right to bear arms, there are limits when and where to bear arms. Extreme caution and prudent judgment must be used when deciding to carry a personal firearm or weapon so you must know the law. Virginia concealed carry permits DO NOT apply on MCBQ or any military installation. Before attempting to enter the military installation you must ensure you are in full compliance with the firearms transport rules.

The law involving carrying a firearm or weapon onto federal property is specific and clear. Possession of Firearms and Dangerous Weapons in federal facilities, buildings, or Installations is illegal and is in violation of Section 930, Title 18, United States Code. Law Enforcement personnel, when entering federal facilities, buildings and/or installations must identify themselves prior to entry if armed. Military reserve personnel whose civilian profession require the carrying of a weapon, openly or concealed, are not authorized to carry or bring their duty weapon on a federal installation, into a federal building, or facility. Full time civilian police officers performing drill, annual training, or while in support of an operation, may not bring their duty weapon, open or concealed, onto a federal installation, into a federal building, or facility. Unless the carrying of a concealed weapon is in support of a federal mission, or so directed, weapons will not be brought onto a federal installation, into a federal building or facility.

The following is a list of items that are listed as illegal and may not be carried onto a federal installation or into a federal facility or building.
 Firearms (of any type unless declared and cleared by the installation Provost Marshal)
 Explosive Weapons
 Machine Guns
 Short Barreled Firearms
 Firearm Silencer
 Switchblade Knives
 Knuckles
 Armor Piercing Ammunition
 Chemical Dispensing Devices
 Zip Guns
 Clubs or Night Sticks
 Illegal Knives

QSC Members, Guests, Rec-fire, and Sanctioned Matches
Civilian shooting clubs aboard active military bases have steadily been increasing and QSC is no different. This year we moved towards pre-registration and now there are new and increased security measures for civilians as follows:
 Members: Along with the yearly liability waiver there is a requirement to have a QSC Qualification to Posses Firearms and Ammunition form on file.
 Guests must be accompanied by a member with the following caveats:
o If the guest is using the members weapon only the liability waiver is necessary.
o If the guest is using his/her weapon then the liability waiver and QSC Qualification to Posses Firearms and Ammunition form are necessary. This form needs to be on file with the club 5 days prior to using any ranges. Vetting will be done.

 Match participants (who are not members or accompanied by a member) are allowed for sanctioned matches only.
o A pre-registration form is required 5 days prior to the event and all pre-registration shall close 5 days
o A liability waiver will be required 5 days prior to the event
o QSC Qualification to Posses Firearms and Ammunition form will be required 5 days prior to the event.
 For the above classes of participants, both forms are good for one year.
Consent to Search
Commanders of military installations, aircraft, or vessels may authorize personnel to conduct searches of persons or property upon entry to or exit from the installation, aircraft, or vessel. The justification for the search is the need to make sure the security, military fitness, or good order and discipline of the command is maintained. Any person and their property entering MCBQ is subject to search.
ID check on arrival
All personnel arriving through any of the security check point gates will be asked to provide appropriate identification. To hasten your time, it is encouraged that you have your identification ready to show the guard. The Marines are very professional and courteous. Every guest should follow this conduct.
Speed Limits
Speed limits on any road leading to up the entry check points and within the base are patrolled routinely with strict enforcement of posted speed limits. Please be mindful of these speed limits to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.

The following list of near-by accommodations is by no means inclusive.

Re: MARK YOUR CALENDARS 23-24 MARCH QUANTICO, VA

Can you site the rules for Viet Nam era rifles? I was not able to find the topic at the CMP site, a search is not allowed.
I have a rifle that I built while I was in my second tour and would like to see if it is legal to use. As you know, many of the Sniper Rifles were bought at the PX and used in combat.
Thank you.

Hey Gentlemen, just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck at the match come march.
I went last fall and met some incredible people from every era.
For those of you that haven't been, you are in for a great weekend. For those who have I know you will make all welcome as you did for me.
If you are undecided about shooting in the match.....Do not hesitate! You will do nothing but regret it if you do.....Bring your guns, gear and bullets and shoot....you will have a blast!

Im unfortunately heading back down range here in a few short days and will not be able to attend. I look forward to linking back up with you all again in the fall.
I will be showing up some serious boom sticks as well so stand by...lololol!
Cam, pick a good partner brother!!!...We set the bar a little high last year in the partner shoot...Don't let me down!!!lol

Cheers Warrior's!

I would love to compete in this but do not have an era correct rifle. I have a friend that lives in Quantico so I am going to try to link up with them and come watch, What does it cost to spectate?

As can be seen in another thread in this forum '(7.62x54R cheap shooter'), I have been fitting up several otherwise-original M91/30 Mosin-Nagants with modern scope bases and economy LER scopes of 2-7 and 3-9 powers. I'm not trying to bend any rules, but I would be curious to see whether they could be included in the comp without risking disqualification.

No one will get disqualified, you'll just be catorgorized as Modified. There will be A5's/A4's on the line, It's really only called a Match because we keep score and win Bragging rights. In reality it's a Chance to get a bunch of Vintage Sniper Rifle Enthusiasts together and shoot the Rifles they built against each other. It's a shame to build a beautiful M40A1, spec'd to the T and not have any type of Competetion to really see how it (and you) perform against like built rifles. So we decided to make the venue to do it. The first one was a great time, most of all it is a History Lesson, you never know who will show up and with what. Where else can you get a Model 70 shooting against a M40, and A Nagant against an M21? Or Find the Part you need to finish the rifle you'll shoot at the next one!

Well I can handle that. I have 'pencil plans' to be passing nearby 'round 'bout then, only further West on 81South, but maybe I can persuade the Bride to take a little detour. (PS, she's not thrilled)

I will be sighting in my Red Headed Stepchild 1943 Izshevsk Mosin-Nagant 91/30 for the first time this Sunday, weather permitting. If I come, I'll be shooting plain ole spamcan 147gr stuff; just for the authentic flavor/scent. I'm not sure, but that elongated 147gr bullet, and the 2800+fps nominal muzzle velocity has me thinkin' cocky!

My only real kvetch is getting that close to DC/95 corridor traffic (PS, this is the kicker). It's one of my/our worst nightmares. That, and I prefer not bringing a rifle and ammo along on a vacation that I otherwise wouldn't.

That could be a game changer for me. I rate my odds at being there as 50/50 (PS, 10/90 Dang!@#$%).

I'd dearly love to, though, been a couple of decades (early 90's) since I was blessed with the boon of being able to shoot the Q Town long course.

Greg

PS, Dang, I hate it when it does that...; fate. I was all cranked up for this one, but now it looks like the fates are frowning. Well, good lordy willin' and the river don' rise; there's always next year.

Lots of Vintage sniper rifles left off that list. If I remember correctly, anything from about 53 or before are Vintage according to CMP. Skip and I are lokking forward to "representing" with the Soviet junk. :) And, hopefully, this time I won't brain fart and forget to check the thumb screw on my mount after repositioning.

Great day today! Can't beats a bunch of friendly people and a superb operation to ensure a first class event. We shot at 300 and 600 today. 600 and 800 tomorrow.

And lunch was awesome. Thanks to the gun club folks for providing a lunch for the record books; burgers, dogs, wurst, venison BBQ and.....filets wrapped in bacon. You guys rule!

Unfortunately couldn't get out of plans my wife had made. Will need to make my plans known earlier and hopefully can join you all in September. looking forward to see those photos.

It was an Awesome weekend of shooting! Thanks to Everyone for coming out and to those who put it on. Especially the Pit Pullers!!

I second that! I just got back to northeast PA about an hour ago. Today was overcast and a little cooler, but no rain or snow. We started off at 600 yards, then moved to 800 and finished on the 1000 yard line. WHat a great learning opportunity for me!! Thanks to all the folks at the club who worked to pull this off - and to the pullers who spent hours in the pits both days.
