I'm new to reloading. Is this z new powder? I'm loading for .308 and .25-06, on a Savage platform. 168's in .308 and 117/120 in .25-06.
I have Varget. Trying for more. This 8028 sounds like it might work. Eh?

I don't know if it is "Z" go to powder, but I have had very good results with 155.5 FB's in .308 and 80's in .223. I used to swear by Varget, not anymore. Faster and cleaner. YMMV

Have never tried it, had been interested but then read many mixed reviews. My go-to powder for 308 is H4895.

Hey RStewart. Thanks for z reply. Lol. My fingers get crazy on this iPhone screen. I see you're in SE La. I'm in NW.

Around Long Range Alley territory?

I think that is the range over by Keithville/ Grand Cane? I'm in south Bossier Parish. I belong to Caddo gun club, which is actually in Wedster Parish. So far i'm only interested in shooting 300-400 yds, maybe a bit more. I also have a few 1911's I load and shoot.

I think it is actually 8208. Yes, it works great in 308.

I did not find it to be any better than the IMR 4895 I usually use for .308.

Joe

Less temp sensitive and meters much better. Even if it doesn't shoot any better, it does have nice characteristics.

Had good luck with it in a mostly stock SPSV, though not a 308, a 22-250. Pretty good accuracy across my work up loads, with the largest groups at 1.5" and the best being .470" at 100yds. That was first attempt with 50gr vmax and a guess and try on bullet seating, since I can't hit lands. I was very impressed at the vertical of the 6 different groups ranging over 3gr of powder difference. Almost every group was the same spot vertically, though only at 100yds I assume this means a very uniform burn and low ES/SD. No chrono available. Meters pretty good too. Next test will be in the AR.

XBR 8208 is way to fast for those bullets in 25-06 - there is no powder that bridges that gap well - you will find all this info in a loading book

Il have to agree with george id try 8208 on my 308 it flies very inconcistent.so now i only 8208 on my gas gun.grendel love it and AR so ill leave it there.:)

I have used quite a bit but cannot get it now, it is a good burn rate for middle 308 so 168 is good - for 175 ok, but you could do better - it really shines for heavy 223

Okay, I know the area you are in.
Since I have only worked with the 155.5's and 80's I can only give an opinion on them. How well 8208 may or may not work with other calibers is something I cannot comment on.
I have shot 155.5's regularly at 600 yards with a muzzle velocity of 3071 fps in a Savage 12 FTR w/30" barrel and 1:12 twist. Jumping the bullet .080". A friend with an identical rifle can't shoot that fast and hold accuracy and he's loading .010" off the lands. So, with any powder or load what works for one may not work for others.
