Rifle Scopes SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

on (IIRC) mine, every illumination level is followed by an off position. the off positions are marked by dots, the on positions are marked by their illumination level.

Helter, you are correct. I tried it today in dimmer light and it was just like you described. Thanks for the heads up. Now to mount it.

Wow sorry if I offended

No, I'm sorry. You won't have any problem at all. I'd ask $950 & I wouldn't go less than $900. I bet you might even get the full $1000 retail right now if you act quickly. There are probably enough of people who want this one right now & I wouldn't think they were lame if they did pay up for it.

Woohoo I'm finally getting mine on Tuesday. Thinking of selling mine.. anyone interested?

Im definitely interested. Looking at picking up the Swfa or the Vortex 1-6 in the next week. Being a newbie to optics I'm having a hard time deciding.

SS 1-6x
1st focal plane
Bad Ass reticle great for cqb @ 1x & then well thought out mil scale reticle out to 600 yards or so.
Tough
Real nice covered turrets, matching with reticle, 10 mils per revolution, .1 increments
22.4 oz
11 illumination settings, 11 off positions, awesome
Field of view @ 1x @ 100 yards = 95'
Great glass
Matt black
Price point which rules!!

1-6x Gen2 vortex
2nd focal plane
Ballistic reticle, works best with certain weight bullet @ certain velocity.
Great glass
Roughly 25 oz.
Ugly paint, IMHO, won't match my gun anyway....
Better for 3 gun?
Day time bright illumination for real
Field of view @ 1x @ 100 yards = 115'
$1400ish
I dunno, I ain't got one, I got what I really wanted for a hell of a lot less

Yes just the swfa are hard to get, I just missed out one in the for sale section by a few minutes. If someone is looking to sell please let me know.

Thanks

I don't think you are supposed to be selling here. From the rules:

Posting an item for sale in any other area but the "For Sale Section" will immediately get the post removed and the User Banned for as long as 30 day or longer without Warning. Sniper's Hide considers these rules as written your initial warning.

And technically speaking he did not offer the item for sale!

Got mine today, too. No caps. Looks nice, though.

What are the caps that people are talking about? I got an email that I'd be getting them soon, but I'm not sure what they are... the scope appears complete as I got it.

Caps to cover the turrets to keep you from accidentally moving them. Yours probably shipped with thin thread protectors you can see at the base of the turrets, covering the cap threads.

See...this is the kind of luck I have. I've been waiting for this thing for a year. It finally gets here...and it's scratched

SWFA has been great about it so far though. Had a UPS label out to me immediately. So here I sit waiting...again.

Mine came in today, no caps, no paperwork, nothing but the box, scope, wrench, and 2x batteries. She does look sweet though :)

For the other guys that received no caps, did they send you a separate email about them?

Got my scope today :D SWFA 1-6x, no caps. Caps were listed on the invoice as backordered... I'm guessing they'll come eventually. I didn't try to get the thread protectors off... just thought about that now actually. Scope looks great. Not daylight bright, not even as bright as my Tac30. The reticle looks awesome though. I got it mounted up and should be able to go try it tomorrow :D

No, I didn't know I was supposed to get anything else until I added a mount to my order, and they asked if I wanted it shipped with the caps...

To any one who has their 1-6 I would really like to hear how they are doing. Specifically I would like to here about close range 1x performance and daylight use of the illumination on 1x. Thanks guys.

Not daylight bright (unless you are looking into a dark or shady area). I could care less about that, but it does what it should at lowlight/no light times & indoors always. If you want it for 3 gun it will do, probably quite well.

Close range @ 1x is very good. I don't know what more to say about that. Goog is good, it does what it should, well.

Look for BigJimFish's review it will answer all your questions.

In short, 1x is excellent. Daytime illumination is poor in bright environments. However, there is no need for illumination in bright environments as the reticle is easy to pick up. Overall a fantastic value even at the full retail price.

so on a sunny day with the illumination all the way up....you are only seeing a black reticle? btw....your avitar pic does what it should do, well.

Haha!!

In bright sun illumination all the way up there may be a faint pinkish color.

Vortex 1-6x gen2 has daylight bright but it is BDC reticle and SFP, heavier too. SS 1-6 reticle is bad ass!!

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but just got another shipping notification. I'm guessing this is the adjustment turret caps since that's the only thing I should be expecting from them. Cool stuff :) Didn't have to wait long there.

Order #192533 ordered June 12th, received the shipping information today and will arrive by Tuesday on the 16th.

The scope absolutely meets or exceed my initial expectations (haven't shot with it yet though).

-As my buddy says the world almost looks more clear than reality through this HD glass.
-Should very adequately be a great all in one optic that will serve a very wide range of activities (3 gun, HD, hunting, day and night activities, mil/LEO, etc.).
-All adjustments are firm/crisp/clear and really have that nice feeling of quality.
-Built in battery storage (o-ring sealed) is very nice touch as is the free extra battery.
-Eye box is forgiving and large on 1x but a bit tight on 6x.

My comments on illumination (seems to be a hot topic):

-No it is not "daylight bright" (i.e. EOTech/Aimpoint red dot bright under ALL conditions) for sure, but as others have explained or tried to explain it absolutely doesn't matter. More on that below.
-In anything but bright sun AND against a very bright background the illuminated reticle is very bright and visible.
-The illumination is very bright in all indoor conditions.
-Even in bright daylight against a dark or non reflective surface, the illumination is still plenty adequately bright.
-When the illuminated reticle does begin to fade, again in bright conditions and against a bright background, it can be a dull red color or even washed out completely.
-HOWEVER, under either condition above, the exact same reticle pattern is clearly visible in a nice highly contrasting black (as if the illumination was simply turned off).
-Others have stated this above but you might not be able to appreciate it yourself without giving it a go in person. Exactly when the illumination is washed out like this, is also exactly when the black reticle works great with no illumination. The black offers great contrast against the bright light and bright background.
-Red dots obviously have to be brighter and in fact "mega bright" since if they washed out you'd literally have no reticle.

I know I'm probably stating the obvious here on the illumination, especially to those who have had the luxury of one or more low power variable, illuminated scopes, but I think this is more detail than others have provided.

Have others found that on 6x edges of the illuminated ring are visible and a bit distracting? I see a faint red glow all around the edge and if your eye becomes ever so slightly off of a perfect alignment, portions of the now giant red ring are more visible. It is almost like it just needs another tiny bit of turn and magnification to fully hide that part of the reticle. I can't seem to get the brightness cranked down low enough to get rid of this effect. Not a huge deal but worth noting.

Can't wait to get it sighted in and some rounds downrange.

This may have already been covered - If the illumination washes out with bright ambient against a bright target yielding a high contrast black reticle, then how does it work in under the same illumination conditions against a dark target?

I think I covered that above. It will certainly dim but is generally still clearly visibly illuminated.

When I tried that (bright sunshine, very dark background) the reticle turned a dull red. It was enough to pick it out, but not *great*. I was just holding the scope though, it might be a bit easier with it mounted, and a firm cheek weld.

Got into the combo deal the last few days they had it going, already got my 5-20 and now I see that the 1-6 is shipping. Cant wait. Just letting people know.

I find the lit reticle against a dark target, when the sun is bright, to be satisfactory. In the bright sun and looking into say some trees and their shadows (imagining there was a buck in there) I have no issues with seeing good usable illumination, very doable, no complaints from me on that one.

At 1x the ret is very fast and the eye likes it, a lot!!

Yes I do see the outer ring at 6x, if you come out of eye box a little you can see edges of ring that is now hidden at 6x. Not a real big deal, meh..... This is only with illumination on a high power setting.

Got a shipping notification for my 1-6, I got in in the last 2 or 3 days so the whole group buy should be just about over.

Looking forward to getting mine, I got my shipping notifier the other day.

For the price point, I think SWFA scopes are great. With this deal, pure win.
