Recently I have been pushing the envelope with my 20" .308 at a few local matches. I have been doing well in the points but I feel my rig is running out of steam at the max yardages we are shooting. Having said that, I have decided to blow the dust off my .260 and get it back on the line. I have ran the 140 VLDs and 140 Amaxs with great results with
H4350. I have three boxes of 140 Amaxs and one of the 120 Amax. I loaded the 120s for the first time today and the are screaming at 2950 fps and accurate as well. How does the 120 perform at the 1000 - 1200 yard ranges vs. the 140s? JBM shows the 140 actually having a higher retained velocity at a grand than the 120. I am just curious, the way componets are a rarity this year I am looking at my options and keeping open minded.
Rifle---26" with a 1-8" Load--- Lapua brass, and Fed GM 210 primers with 42.5 of H4350, 2.870 OAL, is my 120 Amax load I ran today for those interested.

140s will eat up the 120s at 1000-1200 range. 140s retain velocity maybe 20% better, so your fast 120 will be going significantly slower than your slower 140s at that range.

Would recommend "Applied Ballistics" by Bryan Litz for fuller details on why this occurs.

+1 on Litz's book. Something else interesting i found on the lighter bullets is that their stability factor is lower for a given barrel twist. My 8.5 twist barrel won't even stabilize them.
