i thinking about a red dot (EoTech, aimpoint) or acog.

help me choose. im trying to stay away from a typical scope.

    my budget is about 1000-1200.

I've been pondering this decision too. I'm going back and forth between EOTech EXPS2 with EOTech 4x magnifier (which I've had for over a year and very familiar with) and one of the 1-4's or 1-6's with a preference leaning towards Vortex. I have a 1.5-6 USO on it right now, which is pretty cool. I put it next to the Vortex Viper PST 1-4 this weekend. The Vortex, when set on 1x, allows you to open both eyes and functions just like the EOTech, and is more clear than the EOTech. Crank it up to 4x and it's still pretty easy to see everything and acquire target quickly. Compared to the EOTech + EOTech 4x Magnifier, the Vortex was more clear and much easier to acquire the target. It seemed like you could see a wider area too. EOTech compared to USO was same outcome. The Vortex is VERY clear and comparable, IMO, to the USO 1.5-6. Since the USO wasn't a true 1x, it was harder to use with both eyes open than the Vortex 1-4. I'm probably going to get blasted for this, but I actually like the Vortex over the USO. And in your price range, or close to it, you can get a Vortex Razor Gen II 1-6x. Based on how I felt about the step down Vortex Viper PST 1-4, I'm thinking the Razor1-6 would be perfect!

I know you're trying to stay away from a typical scope, but I've done the whole red dot/holographic site + magnifier routine, and I like the large reticle 1-4/1-6 option more. Plus, all of those scopes have illuminated reticles, so it's like you have a red dot anyway.

In the same boat and looking at the ACOG with the 300BLK reticle. TA33-C-400063 ACOG - Trijicon, Inc.

EOTech has a 300BLK version coming as well, announced at SHOT. The fact that the drop is so bad with range is why I am staying away from a typical red dot, but I don't want to dial with it either.

This looks kind of cool to me, I'm working on a 300 blk build and I might give it a try. Comes with sub and super calibrated turrets.

Leupold 1.5-4x20 Mark AR Rifle Scope

You can get additional custom turrets for $60 each. They have 125 moa of adjustment and are ultralight at 9.5 oz. IMO, if staying under 300 yards you don't need the alpha glass, just as long as it tracks right.

Maybe a 1-4 or 1-6 with holdover points on the reticle. I"m not sure who would make that. I know you can get it on an EOTech. It's a holdover dot instead of reticle. I just really don't like the limited sight you get when using a magnifier, and I prefer having at least 4x magnification.
