XLR Chassis Stock

Does anyone know which ace stock to use on the XLR? I know you can buy one off XLR's website, but I have a gift card towards Midway and Brownells so I would prefer to buy from one of them.

Link would be appreciated.

Gman,

We currently use our own folder and no longer sell the ACE mechanism. The ACE folder we used was the ACE FSM folder. In addition you will need part number ARRB-C and PN to work with our chassis.

Thanks, Kyle ~ XLR

All we did on this rifle was brake install and coating of the chassis and barreled action. We think it came out nice.

Mark

What colors did you use? That looks sweet and would love to use that color scheme on my 223 trainer when I can get a chassis for it.

Is it the same price? And do you feel it is an improvement over the ace? I've read that the ace can be a little sloppy. Not something I'd want on my precision rifle!

Hmmm...wouldn't mind retrofitting my XLR with the new folder device (never liked the design of the Ace). Would the addition of the folder also increase the LOP? (At 6'3 the stock is still a bit too short for my gangly neck and high cheek bones, even with the tall rings and cheek rest raised significantly)

Still love the stock though...

Our new folder is the same price as the ACE at $115.00. It is a big improvement in that it is physically smaller so it no longer drops into the grip area, it is push button actuated, and it has 2 screws to eliminate/adjust out all movement from the folder for 100% lockup.

The folder will increase the LOP measurements by about 1.2 inches.

Thanks, Kyle ~ XLR

Agree 100%. I lightly beveled mine with a Dremel and it helped quite a bit.
.
Yep. That is 1st thing I did when I got mine was to get a flat file out of toolbox & chamfer edge on the inside of that mag.Well . Would love it to be a little more beveled like the one in Pic. modification .
.

The Ace ' Drop-Lock' fold mech. was a real rock solid lock-up .
Is this new fold-lock as solid/ridged as that ?

Kyle from XLR explained to me that there are screws you can tighten or loosen however you want. So yes, it will lock up extremely tight if you want it to.

Hey Ranger, I have a Dremel, several files and such, so candu myself. How much did you take off?

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been following the thread much. I picked up 13 boxes of Hornady match 168 AMAX's for $20/box and have been shooting pretty much non stop :).

I used a 60 degree chamfer tool, and took a cut about .062 deep. I'm not sure if you could tell or not in the picture, but since the magwell is wider at the rear than the front, if done in a squared mill vise you will end up with a cut that's heavier on the front than in the rear. I compensated for this simply by aligning the action block of the chassis so that it was out of level, thus keeping the cut closer the the same on each end. It's still got a little more out of the front, but that isn't such a bad thing, as that's usually where my hangup occurs. I do still need to go back with a file, and increase the angle at the front of the magwell, and slightly radius the corners, but after that, she should slide in pretty nicely.

Has anyone used medium high badger rings with a Remington 700 short action on this chassis? Its looking like I'm going to have some for sale if they wont work.

Can someone tell me what height Seekins rings I need for a Rem 700 SA with Seekins 20 moa base. The scope is a NF 5.5 x 22 x 50. I would of course like to use the lowest rings possible. Seekins rings are .97 high or 1.26 extra high.

PJ,

Here is the formula from our web site:

(actual objective diameter/2) + .9 - (action diameter/2) - base height = required ring height

The NF 50mm scope has an actual objective diameter of 2.325". Your Remington 700 has an action diameter of 1.36". The Seekins base is .320" if I recall. So...

(2.325/2) +.9 - (1.36/2) -.32 = 1.0625" or (1.1625) + .9 - (.68) -.32 = 1.0625"

If your base is a 20 MOA add .035" to that number: 1.0625 + .035 = 1.0975"

Please note that this scope ring height is measured from the top of the scope base to ring center line. It does not account for use with scope caps so keep that in mind.

***Before everyone e-mails me asking what height rings are required, I do not know all the manufactures scope base heights nor do I know everyone's actual objective diameter. Follow the above example and you should be good to go. ***

Thanks, Kyle ~ XLR

PJ, the 1.26 are needed. Vortex also sells rebranded Seekins rings but they list them as "Hi" on the website. Another option in case you have trouble finding some.

Kyle said it would be eight weeks.....it was eight weeks.
Everybody said the chassis would be a work of art.....it is a work of art.
LoneWolf said it would have the feel of an AR.....it has the feel of an AR.
Everybody said Kyle has excelenet customer service....quoting Lili Von Shtupp "Oh, it's twue. It's twue.'
Kyle said the new folder would be rock solid.....I showed the finished rifle to a friend who is, for lack of a better term, a purest hunter. Whenever I showed him any of my AR (15 and 10) builds he just rolled his eyes and basically sighed MEH, didn't want to touch them or shoot them. When I pulled this rifle out he looked at it for a second (after all it had a bolt knob) and then started shouldering it. He would look at it for a minute and then shoulder it again. Feel around on it and shoulder it again. Said, something like, "I really like the way this feels, and it is really solid." When he handed it back to me I folded the stock, the look on his face.....priceless. He took it back and started wiggling it and shouldering it again. He could not believe a folding stock is that solid.

I am a happy camper!

Lennie

PS left off the most important part, it SHOOTS!!

My gunsmith just put an order in for the anodized green variety of this chassis to finish off my custom build. I cannot wait till its finished!

It's still a work in progress,
work done by Phoenix Custom Rifles (Products)
trigger is a jewel set for about 5oz (scary light)
the stock is a XLR, action is rem 700 SA caliber is 7mm-08,
10rnd aics mags, 20moa rail, Burris rings, muzzle break .. dark metal designs.
I had a had a bolt release added barrel was it was cut to 20" and threaded.
scope is a Burris 3X10 hunting scope for now till I can get something
descent :)

without further ado :)

since I'm still packed up I can't do any loading for it yet, needs camo finish
and fluted bolt, and a bunch of other stuff.

hope you like it cause I love it ...

Looks great!

G'day Guys

Thought I would add my Australian , XLR effort to the list of fantastic custom jobs in this thread , I have been working on this 7Mag off and on for over three years slowly putting it together and
ending up with just what I had hoped for , Started life as an accurized Sendero and all thats left of that is the Action :) I popped a 10oz Rifle Basix trigger into it today , got the rails sorted out and
its all done.

I just spent the last hour reading every page of this thread. This is my first post on snipershide.com and an lovin it. I too have spoken with Kyle and will be ordering my chassis at the end of the week. I have an SPS-V that will be settling in it. Also have a 26" Krieger 1.190 barrel for it when my guy has time. You all have gorgeous rifles and im stoked for mine

love the pic. anyone know what kind green is the xlr come with? also does xlr sell any other color chassis?

From what i have heard it comes in green, black and brick red. Dont quote me on this. And i am a huge fan of OD green but the green it comes with is not really OD. Cool none the less

I've got a green folder for my Savage FCP-K coming. Ordered 3 weeks ago. Can't wait. No excuses after this, LOL. Gun shoots very well with the Accustock, but I'm a pistol shooter and can't stand the shape of a typical rifle stock. The XLR chassis should fix that.

Thanks to everyone who posted photos and comments in this thread. Best advertising Kyle could have!

Fellows,
Anyone shooting in the F/TR class with this stock?
I would like to match a Barnard S action equipped with a .308 32" Match heavy barrel but concerned about the short hand guard for bipod mounting and stable shooting position.
Is it possible to get a 20" hand guard for the standard evolution chassis?

Any suggestion is welcome.

Cheers,
Amleto

Amleto - you sure you´ll be able to reach the bipod to adjust? Must have some monkey arms. I have bipods mounted at between 14"-16" from the recoil lug. Any further, I wouldn´t be able to reach the locking lever with my support arm. I don´t want to break position only to adjust cant and so on, so that´s practically limiting factor in that distance.
