Typical as usual I'm in the inch and a half club. Perhaps I can get in the top ten as there are only 8 shooters as of right now.

It appears my LMT is cold blooded. I got excited by the first four record shots on target 1 (the cold bores were also good) than I fell apart. I'll be photo shopping the 3 round group in target 6 and posting far and wide that that is what my rifle does "all day long".

I dont do the rifle justice. The CMP ammo aint bad, the brass will make some nice working stock, but I'm looking forward to developing a load for this gun.

Welcome to the leader boards my friend! Nice looking rifle (I really like the colors!) and some good shooting with re-manufactured ammo! Not too darn bad I must say. Good job!

This really makes me want to finish my new build, I just can't find a gas tube....beautiful rifle waiting on a $12 part!
18" Rainier Ultramatch barrel, I've heard good things and can't wait to see how it shoots...

I cant wait to hear either! I am currently looking at getting a Mega Maten with a 16inch Rainier barrel.

It looks like he "zeroed" the calipers to .308 and measured outside to outside, based on the hashmarks. I was thinking the same thing when I first looked.

that's all fine and good until you look closer and learn that .30 highpower rifle bullets make holes in paper with scrub marks smaller than the .308 groove diameter.

Go ahead, measure closely and report back.

Elfster I see you got a good load worked up for your RRA. We've got our work cut out for us to top that. If the weather holds I'm going to get out tomorrow and post something.

PM, I know 2 things:

You're honest and not a bullshitter. I believe those to be completely legit groups, good for you posting real shooting.
I tried this little game of the Elfster's, it's hard, no doubt. Takes a lot of practice to shoot to the limit of the rifles capability.

When I tried with my LMT, it didn't take long to see that for me, < 1" was going to be hard with my LMT and FGMM, that's why I switched to my JP for the contest.
Interestingly, both rifles had a USO SN-3s for optics, same reticle also. The JP was easier for me to get smaller groups. Maybe a better trigger, maybe the JP liked the FGMM 168s better than the LMT.

If you can afford to do it, shoot it again slow fire, try another brand/ weight of .308. Good job, good post.

I got another 100 60gr vmax rounds worked up and I'm going this weekend again with my RRA EOP, and i'm going to put another twist into the mix.... I'm taking my other RRA operator2 that has a 1x aimpoint red dot and a grip-pod!!!! LOL, lets see what I can do @ 100yards with no magnification and running FMJ!!! LOL. I'm going to post my results regardless.

Your in trouble now, I just scored 15lbs of RL-15. I can load a lot of 223 now. After I get the RRA on the board I may get the Bushmaster and Eotech out and see if I can match your operator.

NICE! I'm sitting on about 12lb varget, 2lb benchmark, and 1lb of 4895.... I also just picked up 500pcs of lake city (12) 7.62 once fired brass!!! I'm about 1/2 way though it (sizing, cleaning, trimming, and such).. It's some damn good looking brass / food for my LMT!!! Just got to love stainless steel cleaning / thumler's tumbler !!!

not sure yet brother..... friggen .308 168 Amax's are so hard to come by right now (hands down my most fav bullet). First chance I get to get some Amax's at an OK price I think I'm just going to say f@ck it and get 1k of them.

Very nice Elf, you gonna stuff those Lake City's with Amax's?

Seems like the wind started blowing the day this contest started.It continues with 16 mph forecast this weekend.

jesus dude, nice shooting.. you just laid waste to all of us with that round... now that's going to be hard to beat.... I think I would've come close to that with my RRA varmint if it wasn't for two friggen flier groups..... going to try my best this weekend if I get the time. Nice shooting and welcome to not only the leader boards, but also the "shoots sub-moa all day long" board!! very nice! i'll get you on the boards later tonight.

Some things it makes sense to lie about. My shooting mediocrity is not in that category.

Thank you for your sentiments. Stay safe out there. Got to go buy some double xtra large, huge, magnum condoms now.

Everybody must be saving ammo. If it's not raining Friday I'm going to get the Bushmaster carbine out and shoot a round.

I intend to do it. Just takes time I don't have at the moment. Dealing with court stuff, school stuff, anniversary coming up and planning a trip for that. Also just finished up our Friends of the NRA banquet and working in another civic organization. My new rifle came two weeks ago so I hope to do some load development soon. I've got the rounds loaded and waiting for me.

Early in this thread I mentioned posting results I had from before the thread was started. That was before I read all the way through the rules and realized that they required new targets only. That's fine, but it's just been too crazy to get out lately. Except for last Saturday. I had everything loaded and ready to go for early Saturday, but woke up with a freakin' killer sinus headache. Knocked it back a bit, but just didn't feel right for a fun day at the range. So I did yard work instead!

What was I thinking?

If you're going to feel crummy, may as well be doing work! Save the times you feel good for the fun stuff!

I hope I'm not to late to the party...

Here’s a noob’s contribution to this contest. My first group was great, then it well downhill from there… I love these online contests, because I don’t have to travel, I can shoot it whenever I want, and it gives me an excuse to get out there. Plus I can compare how good (or in this case, how badly) I do compared to others.

Shot with my 24” Frankenbuild AR15 with Caldwell bipod and rear bag on bench.
Average was 1.036
Best group was .593
Rifle used = mix and match AR15 .223
Barrel length/type = 20” Stainless Steel bull barrel
Optics = Osprey 10-40X50
Mount = Weaver rings

Shot with reloads
Mixed headstamps
Win SRP
26.5 gr Varget
55 gr soft point (mystery box of them…)
COAL = 2.250

.593+1.452+.893+1.631+.627+1.022 = 6.218 / 6 = 1.036 average over 6 groupings @ 5 shots each / 30 total bullets:

Hope this challenge doesnt close this week. Gonna have a run with my Sr25 EMR. I'll be honest...I've had a hard time learning how to shoot this rifle compared to my Larue OBR and Sr25 Match as seen in the previous challenge. Idk this rifle requires more TLC. Could be my imagination but hopefully I can get a KAC on the board...

I gave it another try today with a whole new load, 165 gameking bthp and 40.5gr RE15 powder and was unable to beat what I have already posted @ 100yards (was close tho),,,,,, but I had one hell of a group @ 300yards!!! Figured I'd spread the info love!!! this comes out to .648moa (300YARDS) with LMT MWS:

I'm still going to post this even though I'm not going to make the boards, BUT you got to give me some credit for 1x non-magnification aimpoint pro with RRA operator2!! Figured I would post what I came up with for shits and giggles. I was really hard to get a pin point for precision accuracy @ 100yards with no magnification but is still not too bad. I did not co-witness full iron sights when taking these shots, but I did use the small aperture rear sight to make the red dot more "fine" (helps big time IMO). I got to admit, trying to do anything 1moa or less with no magnification is pretty darn hard. I'll try to give this another try with maybe better results. Still playing around with what target to use @ 100yards.

Figured I'd post this also even though it will not win.... The top 3 targets / 15shots was my friend, and the bottom 3 targets / 15shots is mine with 55grn FMJ BT w/cannalure, cci400, 23.5 benchmark, and coal of about 2.220. One of my groups was damn near 1" @ 100yards. Still, not too darn bad with no magnification.... my friend really shanked the one shot on the 5.451" group!! doh! Not that easy with an aimpoint! Well, atleast for me that is.

Elf,

For targets using no magnification I have the best luck with NRA SR1 or B8 targets. At 100 yds the black target area is just a smidge bigger than the dot on my T1 or the front sight on my AR. With a 50yd zero I hold the aimpoint dot so that the bottom of the dot is even with the bottom of the black. This puts my rounds in the 10/x rings.

nice! i'll try that!.... I started out with 3" round targets but the red dot would completely cover it up, so I had to come up with a quick idea on the range and work with what I had in my ammo box = cross pattern of 2" wide blue tape!!! LOL! It actually worked out "OK", but I think I could get better groups @ 100yards with no magnification if I was working with better targets. This will need to be something to work on and thank for the advice. Even though it was really hard to get 1moa with my above pics, it was loads of fun!!!

just wondering, how are my groups compared to what you do @ 100yards with no magnification? am I on the right track or should this be wayyyy better?

this is not an entry: edit: they are 165 gameking bullets, not matchking

btw, with the LMT pic @ 300yards (pic above).... those 165smk bthp bullets are really funky.... they have one hell of a secant radius on the ogive and are actually seated well below sierra's recommend coal of 2.75"!!!... they are crazy under mag seated length! hell, I was doing a .015 jump with a seated ogive of friggen 2.715!! wow! anyway, the accuracy in my LMT @ 100yards was just "OK"... not sure If i'll use them again (this is with really no load development).... What is funny is I had better luck at 300yards than I did at 100yards! figure that out. Maybe with a different load gr weight or maybe with varget. The bottom 3 groups are actually not too bad, but the top 3 groups are sucking massive donkey d!ck...

******** OBVIOUSLY NOT AN ATTEMPT AT AN OFFICIAL ENTRY: JUST WARM UP ***********

This photo and zero session for ACOG and IRONS on a BRAND NEW BARREL (actually done mid april) just saw this thread.

I haven't shot groups since then, but have shot some competitions.

holes marked x are me walking the acog zero toward the point of aim at bottom of pink triangle.

Final Iron sight group is the five bottom center. Point of aim for irons with 50 yard zero (with target @ 100 yards) is the bottom edge of board directly below triangle.

fired prone from 100yards with backpack as front rest and my fist as rear rest.

One group = 1.25" ? ish
Rifle used = BCM W/ GEISELLE SSA TRIGGER
Barrel Length / Type = BCM 20" Stainless 1/8 twist (SAM-R profile = NM Service Rifle profile)
Iron sights .04 hooded rear aperture and 8 MOA front sight post

Ammo= Factory Black Hills Mk262mod1 (77 grain SMK @ 2850 ish fps)

Elf, do you mean 168 gr matchking? or 175?

Never seen a 165 gr matchking. I believe they make a "gameking" in that weight though.

doh!! did I say matchking? it is 165 bthp gameking... my bad. it was getting so bad in my area trying to get .308 cal bullets I was taking what ever I could get.

im friggen happy as a pig in shit right now... stopped by my local big box and they just got off the truck 5 total boxes of 168 Amax's!! took every single box they had.... ohhhhh yeah. Not bad for $29 per 100 either.

Elf brother,

I am brand new to the precision game, and even then my work is more focused on sending shots into a cranial vault under stress/varied conditions than in group shooting. My shooting background is primarily in use of a carbine. I have however spent a fair ammount of time with M4 pattern weapons doing BRM out to 400. My setup is a 16in BCM lightweight with T1 and Giessele SSA. Using the mag as a monopod I can consistantly put 8 or 9 out of 10 rds into the 10ring on an NRA B8 at 100yds with 55gr training ammo, I have never tried with match ammo and I have never measured my groups. I know a guy that uses a colt 6920 with a free float rail, aimpoint and larue po boy(2X?) that can put 9/10 in the x ring at 100 using a 50yd zero holding at the bottom of the black.

that sounds really good... looks like I need to get my 1x shit together with some better targets... I guess it is all part of the fun! Good reason to blow off some more ammo. Thanks for the info my friend.
