Spartan Precision Rifles, 6mm Creedmoor

Decided to work on a load that wasn't too hot. Worked up a few loads, and these are the results. I am very satisfied that it was fairly easy to find a High Node and Low Node for the rifle. The loads were only tested at 100 yards. I'll try and find time to test them at 300 and 560 yards tomorrow.

Thanks, Bob. :)

Well I'll be damned. The day I decide to test the "Low Node" loads from yesterday is the day the wind decides to blow hard. I shouldn't complain. It was an interesting test day. There was an average of 18.6mph wind, which was 1/2 value at my position. I had to adjust .7mils E to get to 300 yards and adjusted .4mils W. Of the three charges, the 3rd charge (41.5gns) printed the best group again. Its vertical was 0.912". Though it's not the greatest vertical, it will do for now. All in all, I gathered some good data. Something I overlooked to do though was chrono the load. I will do that tomorrow if time permits when I test the 3rd charge at 560 yards.

I also had 4 rounds left of the 3rd charge and took a swing at a 12" plate at 560 yards. Fuck, all I'm going to say is that I lost the first two rounds far right of the target. I had to adjust 2.2mils E, .8mils W and made two hits with the remaining two rounds low, right of the target. I was pretty humbled by the wind today. It was a cool learning experience. :)

I think I'm pretty much done testing at these distances. I hope that some of you may find this data useful if you are running a bolt action rifle in 6mm Creedmoor.

300 Yards.

560 Yards. Only 2 shots since I lost the first 2 far right. :D

Today was the first time ever shooting suppressed. I didn't know what to expect. It was INSANELY AWESOME!!!! :D I LOVED IT!!!!!! You can tell how the first shot for each group was out of the group. The "pussy, silenced push" kept catching me off guard. :D

I loaded 9 rounds to test the 30P-1 early today. Don't ask me why only 9; I just did since I was running on very little time. I shot 2, 3 shot groups. And I saved the last 3 rounds to run them with the MagnetoSpeed Chronograph (3,211fps). There was a 8.6mph crosswind. I can't complain with the accuracy.

Since its Memorial day weekend try Tuesday morning. So you wanna use the reamer throated for the VLDs or the Hornady 105s? My new thread is up if you havent seen it yet.

The SPR 6mm Creedmoor in the new KMW Sentinel with the Integrated Mounting Block (IMB). The IMB works! I'll post a review later this week. I am beyond happy with it.

100 Yards

338 Yards with Cold Bore Shot.

Papagallos, that's a great looking rifle there and extremely accurate! What load are you shooting, 42.6 of H-4350 and 105 hybrids?

Also, what was your low node?

CA,

I stopped using H4350. I was getting too many random pressure signs with it (threw away more pieces of brass than I wanted). I have no clue why. And it didn't matter which of my three loads (42.6, 41.5, 40.5) I was using.

I switched to H4831SC, and things just run flawless. This particular load in the pictures is 43grains of it. I chornographed it and it's averaging 3,028fps. Talk about a mild yet stupid accurate load. The brass is cool to the touch upon ejection. I am ok with running the 6mm Creedmoor that "slow."

Pap,

Gorgeous rifles and every Spartan rifle seems to shoot lights out!

I have a quick question about your powder change from H4350 to H4831SC. Do you think the H4831SC will work well with 6.5 cm loads? H4350 is pretty hard to find and I have come across some H4831sc.

Thanks.

Thanks Papagallos, I am experiencing those same problems! I have plenty of 4831sc which I shoot in my 260, I'll try that.
Thanks for the info!!!!

Marc Soulie builds a heck of a boom stick.

Give the H4831SC a try. I believe that H4831SC is 6-7.5% slower, so you'll need to make up for it to get the same velocity you would with H4350.

I will as soon as I get back into town on Monday. That's odd, I was also getting it with 41.5 and up. I was going to try a lighter load i starting at 40 with 4350 and work up, as well as the 4831sc.

Papagallos, I sent you a PM on the lot number I am using for my 8lbs of H-4350. I will also try the H4831sc in my 6 Creed. It shoots very well in my 260 as does the H4350.

Here are some targets using 42 grains of H-4350 and 105 Hybrids.
Paper 300 yds
Steel 3 shots 600yds
Steel 6 shots 656 yds
Steel 4 shots 760 yds

I went out and played this am with a few lighter loads using H-4350 and H-4831sc. I did not chrono these yet, but here are the results.

Papagallos, I tried your load of 43 grns of H-4831sc which shot great. I changed the photo so it could enlarge, just click on the picture.

Dang Papa, I didn't think that your rifle could be much more awesome in the first place, but there you go with the Sentinel changing my mind. Very nice set up. I'm curious why you switched to the NF from the Kahles, if you don't mine expounding a bit on that?

Thanks, Jabels

The NF ATACR is going on my AO .223. Trust me, the Kahles 624i is on the SPR 6mm Creedmoor. :)

Why 6mm Creedmoor? Why not 6.5 Creedmoor and just shoot 140 gr factory Hornady ammo? Is there noticeably less recoil? What is the advantage?

Do a search on the topic and you will find your answers. The 6mm Creedmoor has the same performance as a 243 will less powder and a tad better barrel life.

Even with the 129gr. 6.5 Creed coming out at 3000fps, the 105gr. 6 Creed is coming out at 3240fps with 41.8grs RE17, 100fps less with 41.6grs H4350, obviously flatter shooting and accurate as hell.

Had some very good luck running 40.2 grains of H-4350 with out any loose primer pockets. Now I need to shoot the load at distance. Papagallos' load of 43 grains of H-4831sc is still a very good load for me as well. Both loads are about the same in FPS.
