Just don't shoot the local cattle, I grew up there and every once in awhile we had "out-of-towners" showing up at a check station with a moose tag tied on some ranchers cow.

I'm from Oklahoma........Not much of a chance of mistaking cattle for moose..........But I've never seen a Moose in person so who knows.

Wyld, let me know how you rate your elk hunt. I'm going to do Wyo elk sometimes in the next 5 years. Have 4 points now.

I remember Worland as being almost desert, flat and dry. We went through Ten Sleep to get there and that was scenic. The base of the Big Horns had Antelope and mule deer at one time, as well as the Black Hills. The numbers and success changes from year to year but I always enjoyed Wyo. Oregonmuley, Is the Kaycee Hylton still in business? We went there one time to use their shower house after five days in the field. the showers were in a separate building from the motel. for $4 you could get a bar of soap and a towel. I had to lather up three times before I could get any soap suds going. lmao

Region H mulie tag. First trip outside of the midwest for hunting (at least the 4 legged prey).

Cant wait!

The real question is who is bringing a can along to hunt this year now that it is legal as if today?

I live in Worland, just moved here. Hit me up when it gets close and I will see if I can free up some time to show you around if you are interested....

I live in Jackson WY, but no luck for me this year, buffalo, elk, deer, antelope unsuccessful draw this year. Anyway I will go for the General License deer area 130, and 131

Huntermanpaul, I'll take you up on that. We will probably roll into town Sept 18th. The opener is the 20th. I believe.

I'll be in Gillette for the Oct. first area 24 antelope opener. Just after a couple does. Haven't been out the last couple years so i'm looking forward to it as it's always a good time.

I live here so of course I'll be hunting. I have antelope tags for area 7, elk tag for the Big Horns. I'll use a general deer tag in my back yard.

I didn't get my choice elk tag in Area 1 this year so I had to settle for a left over cow elk in area 38.

me and a buddy will be hunting region m this year. is worth buying a cow tag also ? seen where there a few left .any info would be great to know. we have a camp spot reserved at the camp grounds just out side of ten sleep my number is 574 355 6810 thanks it are first mule deer hunt as we are from indiana

I'm not that familiar with the southern end of the Big Horns, I hunt the north end. I haven't checked to see what cow tags are left, but if you can get one near Cloud Peak Wilderness Area, it would be worth your while.

You might want to re-check your camping reservations. Instead of staying in Ten Sleep, you'll save a lot of time by camping on top. There are forest service camp grounds or just camp in the woods like everyone else.

I'll be hitting the family ranch for my 'lope & general deer & the off the next week for a cow in area 38.

I will be hunting the Thorofare country in the Bridger Tetons with my cousins from Gillette, Lander, and Upton, can't wait for fall!

Here are some pics of my last trip in with them (2 years ago, didn't draw last year, so I hunted Montana)

Moose, Cow...not really sure..:)

Is that a cabelas alaknak tent ? How did u like it ? How did it perform? Would u buy again ?
Looking at purchasing a Davis tent canvas wall tent with all the accessories.
Thanks

I'm taking my 12 year old daughter to Wyoming this year with a mule deer and speed goat tag. She went with me last year and had a blast and wanted so bad to hunt. Wyoming requires one to be 12 years old to hunt big game...she's is ready! She was apart of my hunt, harvest, and processing of the buck. I think she's hooked! Casper area.

that's awesome !wish my kids where still little some times! always neat to see the youth getting out in the wild having a great time with there parent. we hold several youth hunts here in Indiana each year and its realy a neat thang

Any word on how bad the game wardens are this year?

I run into a lot of WY Game Wardens the last 20 years hunting here. I've found them to be fair and helpful. They will gladly give you advice if you ask.

But then again I try to follow the rules, as easy as hunting in Wyoming is, there is no reason not too.

The one exception is I mis-read the boating rules, we had flotation cushions, one per person, which I thought was legal, but no, its suppose to be personal flotation devices (vest type).

I could got a ticket, nope, I got a warning: I could have been sent home or elsewhere to get the proper flotation devices, NOPE, he loaned us his.

I've found over my 66 years that game wardens are like everyone else. Treat them with respect, you'll get treated with respect. They do have a job to do, and if I screw up, I expect to have to pay for it.

I don't know exactly which model of tent it was, but my cousin did get them from Cabelas, he is pretty well set up, he has two of them, we used one as a cooking tent and one as a sleeping tent, they were very comfortable, kept the snow and wet out. He has the wood stoves that go with them, worked very well. He packs them in with no poles and then we cut poles out of small dead trees when we get in there to cut down on weight. He was saying the main reason he switched to these tents were the weight, his old canvas tents were heavy to begin with and then if they got moisture in them then they were even heavier. These ones were made of a lighter fabric. Like I said, they are not mine, but in my opinion they were very nice and they were alot lighter than canvas tents that I have seen before. Good luck!

I hunt Wyo every 3rd year (That's about as often as I can afford currently). Hunt goats in unit 49 and elk in 120. Going out next year for a mulie.

I envy you guys but I am hoping that at 34 years old, I will have plenty of time to hunt out west. How many preference points does it take to usually draw an elk tag in Wyoming with the rifle? Bow? Does it depend on which zone you are in? I am a die hard Whitetail hunter and hope to make my first trip to Alberta next year but elk hunting on horseback just seems REALLY COOL!!!

I too have found this to be mostly true. I say mostly because there was one in the NW part of the state that was exceptionally difficult to deal with for quite a while.

I'm in Wyo. Now. It really is a awesome place. Were finishing up scouting tomorrow and hunting Friday. I'll post pics if we score. Good luck to everyone hunting.
