Big Dog Steel is Proud to finally unveil our new precision rifle target.

We've spent a great deal of time developing and testing our prototype Precision Rifle Target to make absolutely sure it works perfectly and will take the abuse you have planned for it. The "T" zone on the precision rifle target features a flapper that flips over the top of the head and flashes waiting for you to shoot it back down. The heart flapper flips side to side and is controlled by a heavy duty spring so it will not rebound with 308 class rifles. All flappers are waterjet cut from premium 1/2" thick AR500. The hinges are all waterjet cut 3/8" thick premium AR500. Hinge bolts are 5/8" diameter grade 8 bolts.

Everything bolts into place so there is absolutely no temper damaging heat affected zone from welding or cutting. Should you ever damage anything on the target, we can simply replace that small part. With a target that has everything welded to it, should anything need replaced you have to replace the whole target, this isn't the case with ours.

The "T" zone is precisely placed in the head to reflect the actual dimensions of the average head. The heart flapper is also precisely placed to reflect the correct placement in the human torso. This will aid greatly in training and should be much more effective than shooting another IPSC shaped target. The up and down movement of the head flapper as well as the side to side movement of the chest flapper should also help train you to acquire the new aiming point on the target. You cannot just simply shoot a group on the steel. Realistic precision accuracy on a real world target is what this target is all about.

Big Dog...Your crazy! I love it! Brilliant.
Admit it, you stay awake some nights thinking up new target ideas.

Interested.. With the head flapper design, how well does it actually stay upright and what caliber is needed. Iver see them flip to the side but never upwards like yours?

I had a similar idea, I just couldn't figure out how to cut ths plates. Cool design Dog Steel.

I would like to know actual dimensions in inches, from bottom to top of head and width across shoulders? Price as well? Thanks.

Thanks for all the comments and interest. The target overall size in the prototype photos is 24" tall and 18" wide. The production targets will be 24" tall and 16" wide. The target width is being reduced slightly to better reflect the average male chest size. The heart flapper is 3-1/2" in diameter in the center and 4" when on the arm. Weight of the total target assembly with the 4x4 post bracket is approx. 62 lbs. Weight of just the target is approx. 34 lbs, so almost half the weight of the total target is going into flapper assemblies and the bracket. That's a lot of premium 1/2" and 3/8" thick waterjet cut parts. Our price on these will be $389 + shipping. Shipping to Texas will be in the $40 range and shipping to the west Coast would be in the $60 range.

Thanks again!

To me, a steel target is a steel target, but this is actually very cool.
Good on you guys for giving it a little something unique.

I'm worried that the size of the bolts on the back of the target are too small!

All kidding aside. Does it take longer for your waterjet to cut harder steel?

Ryan, that's about as bad ass as it gets bro!!!! You keep raising the bar, and doing it very well!! Kudos brother!!!

Would you guys be interested in a group on these? If we could get 6 ordered I would be willing to do them at $349ea + actual shipping. Let me know and I will get things going if there's enough interest.

Love the target but could you answer my question about the head flapper design and function... Thanks

HELL YES. If you do a group buy put me down for one BDS :)

Awesome target for PR...but looks like it'd be great for people who want to step up their pistol game too!

Flounder - I've mainly shot it with 243 and 308, between 100 and 300 yards. Both of those have been 100% reliable knocking the plate to the top and not having it bounce back, or not make it to the top. I will try and get a video up if it ever stops raining.

Just a FYI observation. The standard 19" measurement is from outside of the arm ,across the chest, to outside of the arm on an average male (Average shoulder to shoulder measurement for men). Reason I make this comment is that some optics, like the ACOG and Elcan utilize horizontal stadia lines in the reticle that are used for ranging specifically on a 19" target. Creating a smaller target than is the "norm" could/would throw off some users when ranging.

Cool Thanks, I appreciate it. Ive shot a similar target at 700 but both flappers swung sideways.

Ryan, awesome looking target brother, Well done.

Looks super high quality for years of abuse!!

Can you make it with a 2x4 bracket? I only have 2x4 bases

The forecast for tomorrow and Thursday looks very promising. I should be able to post a good video by the end of the week showing the target in action. I will start another Group Buy Friday Morning at 8am EST. This will be for 6 more of the Precision Rifle Targets, and will be the last offering with the targets at the discounted rate. Just like the last Group Buy you will need to post in the Group Buy thread and PM me with your ship to address so I can get you an accurate shipping quote.

Thank you for your support!

-Edit- The parts for the first Group Buy are cut. I'm hoping to have a few of them in paint by the weekend and the majority of them shipped out midweek next week.
