XLR Chassis Stock

Got my chassis yesterday and kudos to Kyle. Excellent fit. Will post pics once I get my SWFA scope mounted that I ordered today. Shees! this sport hurts my wallet! But what the Hell, it's better than shooting golf balls...oh, wait I do shoot golf balls at a hundred yards, maybe now 2-3 hundred with my new rig!

Time to downsize. Red paintballs on long golf tees. Clobbering those at 200yds tends to have the people around you at the range mumbling things like "What the fuck?" and "Holy shit, do you see what that guys shooting at?" LOL! Pretty funny...

Now that the rifles been assembled witht he scope figured id get some pics up.
XLR cabon 15"HG, 243win stevens 200, Warne steel 20moa base(no cutting required), Vortex 6-24x50 HS LR FFP (XLR reticle) seekins xhi rings.
Trigger will replaced next and then a new barrel will be put on 26" 1:8TW.

Cant wait to put some rounds through it

alright... i finaly got home and waiting for me was my xlr... i love the feel of it ... i love everything about it.... except one thing... the barrel isnt centered in the front tube ... how do i fix this???? HELPPP!!!!!
the barrel is sitting about 1/8 of a inch from top dead center... ive remounted the chassis several times... it goes back to the exact same spot every time

Unfortunately, i believe you will be told that that is normal. Although if you're saying that your barrel is only 1/8" from touching the hand guard I'd say that's a little excessive. Can you post a pic of it?
I'll be honest, you're not the first to mention an off center barrel and it concerns me. I'd expect a cnc'd piece of aluminum to be pretty precise.
I'm hoping that a custom action and barrel may help eliminate some of this, although i also don't see any factory barreled action being that far off, either.

That is some funny shit, I gotta try that!

Yeah, something wrong there. Have you tried clocking the hand guard tube differently? Or is that not even an option?
It almost looks as though the barrel isn't even centered in the tube at the back either, like the aluminum wasn't inletted properly for you action to be centered.

this makes me want to check the recoil lug..... hold on ill be back in lil after checking that... a soon as you said that it clicked that i had a hard time setting the barreled action in the chassis.... due to the cereakote

Had a similar issue with a ptg recoil lug. Was 1/16 taller than stock lug. Reeked all sorts of havoc for me until i figured it out

i was just coming to post something like that... the fit between the recoil lug and action part of the chassis was so tight i had to take some cerekote off and in the process i was starting to think that the recoil lug was a touch to big.... ill just have to call kyle on monday and get his advice..... i have cleaned up all i care to clepiecesan up... and have resorted to shimming the front tube with 3 trimmed pieces of paper and now its about 1/4 gap on top.... and 1/2 on bottom... enough to go shoot my brand new rig!!

Does anyone want to buy my HS Precision Stock from me so I can get a fund going to afford one of these stocks!?!!? PLEASE!?!?! Its Aluminum bedded, I'll sell it with my sling, and it is for a Rem 700 Long Action! Pleeeeeaaaseeee..... I have to have one of these.

Mine is actually TOUCHING the barrel and canted at a 45* angle...I believe I mentioned this earlier in the thread.

I believe it has something to do with the top "clamp" being off because your handguard essentially stays straight on until it's tightened then once it's tightened, it cants.

This was the *before* picture with the Savage barrel -- What you don't see is that the right side of the handguard is about 1-2cm from the barrel.

I unfortunately, don't have an after picture because I'm very hesitant to mount the new build on it.

When I sent my rifle back to Kyle ~ They told me it was the barrel...Sent it back w/a new handguard...So, I had the action trued, verified that the barrel was a mess so, slapped a brand new Bartlein in there...Thicker contour -- Now it's a bigger issue because of the contour, so much so that the handguard pushes into the barrel.

Had to shim it to get the vertical axis correct but, it's still rubbing on the barrel.

Yay! Kyle and I finally touched base -- He's taking care of me :D ~ Will post an update in a few!

Not sure about the carbon version, but i was quoted "about" 8 weeks when i placed my order on may 10. He replied to an email last week saying mine should be shipping by the end of the week. It didn't, but i aint worried. It'll hopefully ship this week some time so i can get it to my gunsmith for cerakote.
To better answer your question, if you plan on 10 weeks or so you won't be disappointed.

Gosh dang it that carbon chassis is a beaut. If she shoots half as good as she looks shell be a great gun for sure!

Wish you had this for my Howa 1500 SA.

We are excited to announce that we are now have 1 piece aluminum 20 MOA scope bases for Remington 700 SA and 700 LA. Cost is $60. These are made to fit our chassis so you do not have to shorten your scope base. Base is standard 1913. Height on our base is .350" when figuring ring height. We have these in stock and ready to ship!

Can anyone post a pic of a rifle with this chassis and a 22" barrel? And also say what length the hand guard is? I'm trying to determine what length handguard I will like best since my barrel will be 22"
Thanks guys

Long time lurker here..
Tikka T3 Varmint in .308 ... camo is just some straw and a couple lacquer colours I had laying about..

I just ordered my first XLR chassis. I got the carbon 12" and am going to be putting it on my Remington 700 SPS Tactical. Does anybody else here have this setup and could take a measurement from the top of the barrel to the top of the hand guard? I'm trying to see if my current optic setup will fit or if I need to find some higher rings.

I know there can be some variance with the recoil lug, which could make the barrel not centered in the HG, but that should be left to right variance correct, not necessarily up and down right...?

Hey Guys,

The hand guards should be centered on your chassis. There can be some slight variance based on how strait the extruded tube is but it should be pretty dang close. 95% of the time if it appears crooked, we have found the barrel to be threaded crooked from the factory which can cause the barrel to shift in any direction. This should not affect scope ring height as scope ring height is based on the relationship of the hand guard to the receiver/chassis block.

The Carbon is 2" across the flats so use our HD formula on our web site to determine scope ring height.

Thanks, Kyle ~ XLR

The JP MOR-07 was what I was gonna get before I found this stock for half the price. I dont regret my decision one bit. Only thing this stock doesnt have is the folding option and Im thinking I may retro fit that with an ACE folder mechanism.

XLR does make a folding stock adapter for their chassis, its like $115 though.

Cant wait to get mine for my savage 12 in 308! Just gotta get the funds up, can i get the standard model with a 16 inch handguard? My current barrel is 26 inches so i think the 16 would look pretty sweet!

Savage Long Action 7mm Rem Mag
Barrel and brake work done by Dan Wynne of McGowen, 28 in 1-8 twist and a Ross Shuler Break.
Black Ceracoat done by Middle Tennesse Gunsmithing out of Springfield, TN.
XLR Chassis (love it)
and a SSHD 5x20 Scope.

First gun I subcontracted all the work done/ or did myself from beginning to end.

Look to break her in tomorrow!

what a beauty!

what is this barrel exactly?

it's a 22" obermyer with factory flutes

mine has a 22" barrel on it

Original quote was 8 weeks till ship date. Then pushed back to 10. We are now going on 11 weeks and no sign off my chassis yet. :(

Me either. Tomorrow will be 12 weeks on my carbon chassis.

I emailed Kyle about 2 weeks ago and he said they ran out of carbon fiber handguards but that they were expected in a couple of days and mine was awaiting final assembly with the handguard.

Sucks, but things happen.

I ordered a non-folder Savage SA stock about 6 weeks ago and I just got a call saying it was ready to ship. I guess the more custom models take a little longer to finish? Mine is just the bone stock tactical model.

Could be. Regardless, I just dropped my chassis and parts off to Phoenix custom rifles so i don't get to see mine again for another two weeks. But when i get it back I'm confident it's going to be one badass mofo!
For anyone that's looking to have cerakote or any gunsmithing work done, i highly recommend pcr. They are a pop and son team that take their business seriously and do fine work. Best thing, full builds are currently not months out, more like weeks out...

Got my green folder XLR Chassis for my Savage 10 FCP-K today. Took 12 weeks, I believe, but part of that was waiting for a 10 round magazine, so I switched to a 5 round and it shipped. Everything fit perfectly and the install would have taken about 30 minutes except that I needed to change to taller scope rings and shorten the scope rail to clear the hand guard. I'll adjust the stock on Saturday and shoot it a bunch on Sunday.

I don't know if I would go with the long hand guard. I have a model 12 lrp with a 26" barrel. My 12 carbon hand guard has some flex in it. I would imagine the longer the hand guard the more flex induced from loading the bipod. I also have a very heavy barrel so that may play a part in it

Kyle,

I am going to place an order soon for one of the carbon chassis, what is the finish on the carbon chassis you have in your post, and what, if any, other finishes do you provide for the chassis system? Either way I will be ordering one soon, just would like to know if I could get it anodized in another color. Thanks.

i have ordered mine with the 15.5 inch carbon handguard. I should get it in 2 weeks. i will post my result to see if it bend to the point it touch the barrel.

I PURCHASE A BRAKE FROM DARKMETAL FOR MY REMY 700 308. IT LOOKED LIKE THE Roedale Muzzlebrake, WORKED GREAT. IT HAD LESS RECOIL THAN THE BADGER FTE..

Here is what mine looks like in action, as of this morning. Still working on the cheek pad height and the scope eye relief, but the stock is excellent. Now, as for the shooter, I need to move my hips to the right and pay more attention to preload of the bipod, at least that is what I see in the video. The XLR chassis is excellent. The folder mechanism is excellent.
