Rifle Scopes how not to pack a S&B 5-25 for USPS shipping

Not really, I doubt anything is wrong with the scope. Shoot it and then bitch of something is wrong. Guys are just bitching and moaning on what amounts to nothing (unless proven).

The next time you buy a high dollar item tell them to use no packing material and see how that works out for you. I'm sure you will be in here bitching about your Tasco getting smashed up.

Let the guy grieve a little and make light of the situation without trying to be a dick about it.

No I wouldnt come here whining like a bitch about it. Go shoot the fucking thing before u even make a post.

If there is a legit problem or damage to it, then discuss it with the seller, not blast his shit in public. Maybe there is a reason he sent it that way, or just plain didn't know.

Either way no reason to run to the hide and bitch and moan on what amounts to nothing as of now. Get a life.

Has Tom mentioned the person who sent it? No.... so how exactly is he "blasting his shit in public" ???
Since the purchase originated here, he has every right to discuss it here.

Why do you care so much?

I don't, just get tired of hearing grown men bitch about shit that means nothing, plugging up the forum with useless shit.

It wouldn't take a rocket surgeon to search out posts and who was selling products in time frame and find out who sold it. Either way its petty a fucking immature to even post about it without first talking to seller , IF there is damage. He got a hell of a deal on a great optic, be happy.

Another of the many reasons to buy new direct from a dealer and not uaed from a private party. What you think you saved, you didnt. Oh well, to each their own I guess.

No, I buy used shit all the time. Stuff with lifetime warrantes (not S&B) there is little to no risk. Why Would I pay $1200-1400 for a new HDMR when I can get a used one for $800.... makes no sense. If its jacked up I can send it in and get a new one.

Let the other idiots take the depreciation (and tax) hit.

oh man, i've plugged up the forum! is there a merit badge for that?

You only take hit on something you decide to sell. Ive never sold a gun I wanted to keep as well as an optic. Something I got on the cheap to flip is another undertaking altogether.

No you take the hit when you buy it. It's simple math. 800 < 1200 + tax. Thats another ~500 or so for ammo, a glock or a really upscale escort.

Each carrier has its own packaging guidelines, but 3" of cushioning (foam peanuts, bubble wrap, etc.) around each side of the inner box is a good place to start. Had that advice been followed here, it's highly unlikely that the scope's original packaging would have been damaged.

Just because the scope arrived in working condition doesn't mean that the seller didn't fuck up; it's just that everyone got lucky this time around. Bitching about this serves a fine purpose, which is to (hopefully) inform the seller and anyone else reading this thread that $3500 worth of optics deserves a few minutes of care and the proper materials before taking a truck/airplane ride.

soooooooo, what your saying is I shouldnt ship scopes like I do, I just tape a address label to the side of the tube and drop it in the mail? After all, I read on Sniper's hide how these things are tanks and people use them as hammers and if it's not scratched your a pussy that don't shoot, so I figure I'm doing the buyer a service really, hey maybe I should charge more for my efforts

The guy wanted to rant a little, chill the fuck out. As if you don't do a bunch of ranting... KAC group buy thread? Your vagina lips were so tangled up about that you couldn't tell left from right if one was pinker than the other.

You know if you had a $3K purchase show up like that you would be a little ticked off too.

Yea beacuse a group buy where dealer falls of face of earth with $10K's of hide members money tied up and here we are 8 months later and most still don't have them, nor can they contact him (spending MONTHS trying resolve issues with dealer before posting anything in the thread)......................and a scope that has nothing wrong, no visable damage is the same thing.

Get fucking real.

Ive received more expensive shit, shipped in worse condition and the first thing on my mind, wasn't running to the internet to bitch like a child. There is nothing wrong with it, go shoot it... or hang on your wall to show to your friends... either way no one wants to hear about petty shit.

Label? Fuck that shit....engrave the side with the shipping info with a dremel.

I understand, but the point is you are ranting, and here you are doing more ranting. Just because something isn't significant to you doesn't mean it's not to somebody else. There are plenty of people in the KAC thread with money invested that aren't anywhere near as pissed as you are about it, does that make it no big deal?

Reading your angry posts reminds me of watching Jeff Dunhams 'Walter' routine only not funny. Stop being so damn grumpy all the time before you have a full meltdown.

I buy new cuz I have a family discount from a major optic retailer and its cheaper than used when ourchased at TRUE cost... so I guess thats why it doesnt make sense to those looking for a steal deal... I guess thats why my thinking is to buy new retail, sorry to offend those that look for someones used stuff.

You know, I actually opted for that large grout sponge instead of the brillo pad I usually send with things I sell.

Some people! Next time its a brillo pad and some old sweaty tshirts for you.

I was wondering why that Brillo pad was in there with the scope I just bought off ya.

Sorry, not offended by somebody too lazy to type two more letters for the word 'cause'.

Your post sounds very arrogant and snobby.

If two letters hurt ya then so be it... and it wasnt meant to be snobby one bit but if you take it that way CUZ my spelling, then so be it.

It never ceases to amaze me in my daily job, how little thought people put into packing expensive items.
I think most people just don't have a clue about things and can't be bothered to stop and think about impact / movement / padding types.
It could also be that too many people are such cheapskates they won't spend $10 on really good packing material for something worth $3500 or more.

Seeming to look down on somebody or offend them because they buy something used is very snobby. I buy most of my stuff new too and I also get cost on a lot of it but you don't see me acting like I'm special because of it.

I can see you now making your 100 post quota and listing a bunch of glass new in the box for near retail.

Relax Francis, He didnt offend anyone (important atleast). He clearly stated he can buy for new cheaper then most used prices.... so I'm not sure what is getting your panties bunched up.

Thanx... at least somebody gets it! I look for a deal like the next guy but im not a fan of used cuz you expose yourself to purchasing someone else's problem, sometimes thats not the case but most the time its not worth the effort to save cuz you could lose more than the potential savings. My favorite is paying for shipping and having them turn that as profit and package it like the op has experienced, its the typical ebay type sellers that maximize profits and offset their cost for the sale at the buyer's expense.

I just so happen to get a deal on what I want and therefore take advantage of it, theres nothing wrong with that and I dont pride myself on buying new like tge used buyer needs to carry a piss bucket for me or anything... if someone believes to the contrary and is offended by it and my typing of words then they can feel tough by posting strong responses in this forum. And if I post something for sale, its an honest price based upon ita current market value at that particular time, but for the record I am not hoarding any amount of glass currently... now rifles and other kool guns, thats another thing but I dont plan on selling those ever.

ive never bought anything new, hell i get my velcro shoes at the salvation army. Anything new ive obtained is cause i traded stuff for it. I am an extremely poor feller in a rich man's sport, snobby elitism dont bother me cause maser makes more money pissing on himself on webcam than I do in a year so just about anyones posts make me feel like a homeless turd

buh.....buh...but thats different, BUSTED lol

Every package I ever sent could have safely been launched into orbit, and I have sent several hundred. Not one single package lost or damaged. 95% of them were sent USPS. Every time I wrap a package I imagine that the Samsonite gorilla will personally be handling it all the way to it's destination.

Hope your scope is OK. Hope the guy that sent it falls through his own asshole.

i haven't had time to shoot with it or test it yet. i am getting ready for the heatstroke open this weekend and then the PTS match two weekends later. So other than a quick twist of the knobs, it's going to sit on the shelf for 3 more weeks. i'll let you guys know though.

bcp, yeah i know. me too. i'm sure i had a pretty wtf? look on my face opening the package

... I like that sponge too. Looks like a pretty nice sponge.

I have seen worse also unfortunately. I have also had to file scope claims before with ups. But they did pay without hassle. Don't know about USPS. I hope the Schmidt is ok. I'm sure it will be. But agree for 3k you'd expect a little more.

I agree with the Samsonite comment I always try to pack things very well.

Last time I drove up to the USPS office there was a guy delivering boxes and he was literally tossing them out the back of the semi at his cart. Half of them were missing and bouncing off the road etc.

Also I'm still wondering about the Active Duty Mil guy on this site I bought a scope from awhile back...I put "Blowjobs" in the memo on the check and I never heard a peep from him, other than that "My wife does all the banking in the house" when I asked if he got it LOL...

Half the shit I've sent UPS has been stolen or lost over the years. I have a powder shipment of 20lbs varget + 4895 and I'm sure the pricks will steal a couple pounds just like they did last time. USPS for all their faults haven't stolen or lost anything I've sent with tracking/insurance.

If you ever have any issues or want it looked over please don't hesitate to send it to me at the service center. I'll be more than happy to personally give it a thorough check.

Chances are pretty good it's OK but if a clean bill of health would remove any doubt just call me.

thanks a ton Jerry! I have sent a scope or two to you in the past and you have always fixed it and turned it back around in just a day or two. great service is very much appreciated! seriously, thanks a lot!

Headed your way via overnight air with extra insurance.

Oh and somebody needs to put this thread out of its misery

I got it today, and I am a bit concerned that you simply put the sponge in the box with no paper or bubble wrap. Unfortunately, I cannot refund your shipping deposit at this time as I am unsure if I will be able to reuse the sponge.

I just got a box of cookies from my mom that was better packed and arrived in better condition that that. And it came all the way to Kabul...

Its amazing how this internet forum thing works.

There are things called threads. Threads are basically stories, or requests...maybe even tidbits of information. These things are posted on the forum by its members.

These threads have titles....the titles tell potential readers what the story is about.

When you want to open one, you hover your mouse icon over the thread title and left click it....then the thread opens up.

Now here is the really cool part........this is gonna blow your mind.

You can either choose to read the thread....or get this, click the back button and get out of it!!!! Isnt that amazing!!?? Damn these internet guys think of EVERYTHING I tell you. Your browser, which is basically nothing but an interface through which you view the world that is the internet....well it has what is call a "back button".

I have conveniently attached a little illustration showing you where the "back button" is located on a browser called Google Chrome.

Clipboard01_zps5bdb72da.jpg

***Disclaimer-Your browser may differ and might require some experimentation on your part***

So the really cool part about all of this is that if by chance you open a thread that has contents or a story that does not appeal to you......you can simply click the "back button" on your browser and not even have to finish reading it. You certainly are not in any way required to participate in it.

Call me an eccentric, but I splurged big time and purchased a mouse that has a button on the side that when I click it, it backs me up to the last page I viewed in my browser. I can hit a "back button" faster than you can say "what the hell is this shit?"

You should try it.
