Hey come on over and visit my Fairbairn Sykes website and check out a bunch of original WW-II and newer knives. Also some very rare prototypes and SOE agent's daggers. Love to have you take a look around and comment or contact us via the references page, or here. Its been awhile since I was on here. Nice fresh look to the site. My compliments. The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knives - Introduction Enjoy! Most of my photos are too large to post. I am shooting them large since I am hoping to finish writing a book on our collection this year.

Absolutely awesome website. I am a long time coveter of FS knives would love an original. I do own some later made ones, but not the one I want yet.

I hate you! I've been looking for a real 1st pattern for 40 years.

Nice site!

Nice looking site.
Here is my reproduction on first night in Afghanistan in 2004, helping me cook dinner.

Nice site. Always been a fan of the F-S style knives.

I've had this one for 30yrs or so. I've never seen another so marked.

Any way of determining what country this was issued to?

No way that I know of tracking it down. It is a post-WWII knife but to whom they were issued is pretty tough to know. Irish wind also a nice one. Looks like a J. Nowill and sons.

Was looking at getting one of these. Any retailers or a specific brand recommended if not going for historical?

Not exactly the right answer to your question, but I remember that when I've managed to buy a cheap FS replica from England (??),more than 20yrs. ago, I was quite disappointed, notwithstanding the fair price, that the two flat sides of the blade weren't symmetrical each other:
one side has the thicker part,in the middle, starting straight from the handle end ending to the needle point, but the "faulty" side has the thicker part running from the handle slightly sideway, therefore not ending where the needle point end, but half inch before,laterally_ (I don't remember if to the right or to the left because my fake FS was given away after few days of my staring at it...)_
Remembering that, stay away from cheaper replicas :the cheap of mine haved the handle stamped in two halves...so I suppose the blade,too...
Lesson learned, of course_

I would suggest contacting Paul MacDonald, MacDonald Armouries, Glasgow Scotland. He makes the closest thing there is to an original and is a great guy to deal with. He is also military and a swordsman. I have one of his first patterns and really like it a lot.

I've seen some of his work. It's excellent stuff!

Here is his website in case anyone is interested: Fairbairn Sykes Commando Knife

Neat thread.

Here are two in my collection:

And one more... to put things in perspective:

I failed to mention, they are in a collection of miniatures. Ever seen any like this? I would actually like to find out about the maker and when/where they were made. Perhaps someone in the S-F collecting community knows more about them. Because I am stumped. They are highly accurate metal miniatures. Not toys, not GI-Joe types. They are 1/3rd scale, I believe.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Awesome site! I am a fan of my Applegate-Fairbanks Boker! Looking forward to doing more reading on the origins of that style knife.

something about think : like or not, if F-S knife and suppressed STEN wouldn't be really effective combat tools, the Otto Skorzeny/Brandeburger spec-op boys wouldn't have tried to copy their design..._

Always enjoy how candid these salty veterans are when they get a chance to be comfortable and talk about the old days.

Thanks for posting PZ3.
