Well I have been working on and off on this build for about 6 months. I finally sprayed the duracoat this past weekend, and assembled the rifle today.
I thought I would show it off as I did all the work myself, and I am proud of it.

Build specs: Savage 12 short action, duracoat in snow grey
Criterion 1-9 twist,7mm 08 Remington, 1" diameter muzzle , 26"
CDI bottom metal, AI mag
HS Precision stock in urban camo
Nightforce 8-32x56mm NP-R1 with Nightforce rings

Keep the Savage hate to yourself please, Thanks

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Very nice! I just shot my 110 hs precision for the first time today. I should let you dress her up for me!

I hope it shoots just as good as it looks. Have fun!

Yeah. It's pretty neutral - good for urban and low light and with a little natural veg would work well in a variety of wooded or grassy environments.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

It's always nice to see someone's ideas become a reality. Way to go and make sure you put lots of rounds through her.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

That sir is one amazing looking rifle right there! I am wanting my savage to look something like that!

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Very nice indeed!! Welcome to the wonderful world of Savage!!

DK

Re: My Savage Build complete!

The funny thing is, OP states that his build is complete... LOL!! I have yet to see any rifle projects that are ever "complete"!!

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Z71Rat your correct, I am only through until I see something else I need to upgrade. And thanks for the welcome to the world of Savage, but I have been a Savage shooter for years.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

haha. Its becoming a disease for me. I'm almost done with mine... for now.. i just need to get a barrel put on.

your rig looks nice. I kinda like the gray, its something a little different.

Would like to hear a range report.

Yes , and thanks again.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Great job, beautiful rig! And don't listen to the Savage hate.... they are just jealous that an off the shelf action can beat a super expensive custom
wink.gif

And z71rat is right... it's never "complete". I'm on my 3rd stock, 4th bolt knob, 3rd optic...... it's a vicious cycle. And now I'm contemplating having the barrel cut down and threaded whiles it's being Cerakoted...... and I thought kids were expensive.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Nice rig. I have both custom remingtons and a couple of stevens 200 I put togather. It was fun picking out the components and finding the info for the project. They (savages) shoot great.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Thats a great lookin rifle, I'm debating using a 7mm-8 for my action also.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

You should be proud, it looks great, and I'm sure it will shoot too! Question about your stock, did you order it with the camo pattern? I've only seen black. Also is the stock the 4.4 spacing? I just ordered one for my shorty.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Unofficial wieght is close to 15+ pounds, Its a PIG. Stock came with the camo from factory.

I have had the barrel on for about 2 months, This rifle will do 1/2 - 3/4 MOA all day long with the 162 gr hornady A-MAX over varget.

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Nice job on the rebuild and paint! Let us know how in shoots in the future if you try different bullets.
Shooting a stock 12 LRP in 6.5CM. But I don't care for the plain gray stock. You've given me some good ideas to dress it up. Thanks! Enjoy!

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Update and final range report
162 gr Hornady A-Max over 40 gr of varget, 2625 fps (15 fps extreme spread) most groups hovering at 1/2 moa at 160 yards. (I know a wierd yardage but thats what I ended up with when I built my bench and closest available spot to put up a backstop.) I got the velocity up to 2750 with a few other powders but only wringing out 1 moa with those loads. In my book I would rather be slow and on target

Official wieght with everything but ammo

Comfirmed dope to 800 yards

and the before I started upgrading picture. It came a long way.
It started out as a Savage 12 VLP in 22-250 rem 1-9 twist

I Thank you all for inspiration and for some help on my project gun.

Yes, colecting dust

Re: My Savage Build complete!

Can you get us another picture or 2 with the dbm installed? I have the same stock and I'm wanting to do that bottom metal just as soon as I get back to work from a recent surgery.

Here is the cdi webpage, info and several pictures available

Build number 2 is almost done, just waiting on the Nightforce ul rings.

Savage 10, .308 win, manners t2 40% sand, 30% coyote, 30% dark earth, CDI bottom metal.
Factory tube is under 3/4 moa all day so ill stick with it until it needs replaced, then its going to 7mm 08 rem as well. Scope will be Nighforce nxs 8-32 till I get the money up for the brown Bushnell ERS scope.

Great job on that stick. I've been shooting Savages for 12 yrs, owned 4 different models, and they all shoot. My latest is the LRPV .223 1 in 7. This one flat out shoots with Berger 90g VLD and Varget. Shot a 600yd FTR match with a Sinclair bipod and pulled out a 395 18X. couldn't be happier w/ my Savages. Unless I painted the metal, upgraded the stock........ Damn, see what you started Highpoint

Nice Savages. The rail on the new gun looks like it makes up for any weight savings Tom Manners might have given you with his stock.

Nice rifle, I just got my 7-08 back about a month ago. I also was working up some loads with the 162 A-MAX, On a OCW test I ended up with 39.2gr varget. I tried some 150SMK's with varget and that load ended up at 42.0gr. Next try is the 140 VLD's.

How do you like the NXS 8-32?. I planing on getting one, just can't decide between 1/4 click's with zero stop, or the 1/8 clicks with out zero stop. They make it so you can't have the best of both worlds.LOL

If I had to do it over I would buy the 5.5-25 model, nothing wrong with the 8-32, just the extra elevation travel would be nice.

Hey Highpoint nice rifles. I also live in Cullman and a Savage shooter 12FVSS .308 26" in a Mcree Chassis. Maybe we can get together and shoot sometime.
