    It's Friday. I'm well aware that I am German, but I'm drinking a 40oz Miller High-life anyways.

    Don't care.

Couldnt pay me to drink a Miller.

Ill hoist a Hoegaarden in your name

I'm stuck at home today and want to order a pizza now, but I am dangerously low on beer.

Is a local pizza place allowed to pick up another 40 on the way to delivering pizza?

That reminds me of the Brit's telling me of American beer---"It's like making love in a canoe, fucking close to water". Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a nice, cold Miller, Bud, Coors, etc. every now and then (yard beers, you can still operate gas powered equipment), but for a Friday night, I've got an IPA!!

I can't really nag on you since your here now, and it's hard to find an ACTUAL(Go to Germany, drink the beer, then come back and tell me it's the same as the stuff being sold here) bottle of German beer here in the states.

I had a good joke lined up too. Something about truly renouncing your citizenship. LOL.

If you still celebrate Oktoberfest this year, then all is forgiven.

I have enjoyed many bottles of MHL, but I never saw/knew that they made a 40oz. I used to buy the 32oz. for $2 at 7-11, but I don't drink fizzy, yellow beer anymore. Now I enjoy IPAs, Double IPAs, Stouts, Heavy Ales, Whisky, and Scotch. I like to feel like I am actually drinking, instead of consuming and pissing all day long to get a buzz. Enjoy!

    Oktoberfest is in September :p

And there's some German beer that is the same, in that, it is directly imported and not allowed to be made anywhere else.

Hey, I have 2 passports. Depending on which country I am landing in depends on which passport I use. How else am I going to avoid the non-citizen lines at customs?

All the old high school and university beers representing. Ah the memories. The aftertaste of formaldehyde...
Not sure if I missed them mentioned above, but shouldn't some others be included when walking down memory lane here:

    Old Milwaukee
    Rolling Rock
    Natural Lite
    Little Kings
    Mickey's Big Mouth
    Olympia

    Add yours!

And for when you're drinking curbside, or in a park, there's:

High life for store bought every day consumption.
Bitterroot brown ale, Charlie Russell Red,or Black Butte Porter for a better grade of store bought.
Home brewed Witbeer,Porter,or Oatmeal Stout by choice.
    And yeah,I'm German also.

Went fishing with a buddy of mine. He supplied the boat and I supplied the beer. I asked him what his favorite was and he said cold beer. Other than that he didn't give a damn.

I am on an oatmeal stout kick right now. None of my friends will drink dark beer but one, so at least I know when I buy beer it isn't going to get drank if i leave the house for awhile. My friends drink Miller, bud light and natural light. Guess they can still use the broke college kid excuse for now.

My personal favourite. The brewery is not too far away and they'll fill a growler for a pretty reasonable price.
    Double Bastard Ale
Pretty wild to eat in the restaurant and once in a while be able to order vintage beer from 7 years ago. But the high alcohol lets this stuff keep.
This years release should probably be in a month or two. If you've never tried it and you see it in your local beer stockist, pick up a bottle. But keep in mind I've read it has over 100 IBUs and to say the flavour is pronounced is an understatement. It appears to be one of the highest rated beers in the world according to beer critics, but if you're a pilsner drinker you may not even recognize this as beer and you may find it undrinkable. No foolin, it makes Guinness taste like nothing.

I like the popular American Pilsner brands. Raised in Newark NJ, I cut my beer teeth on Bud Draft, and prefer the cans and bottles, too. Here in CNY not enough folks drink it for it to be on tap at my local watering hole, the Dundee, NY VFW. I alternate between LaBatts' Blue and Bud Light when I'm doing more than just one drink or so.

Been the imported route, but such wonderful beers are probably wasted on my dilapidated 67 Y/O taste buds. Really liked Grolsch and Oranjeboom, Dos Eqis, San Miguel, and way, way back, a few of the Kirins, before they were all consolidated.

But these days, I like what's on tap at the VFW.

I also enjoy an occasional visit to local microbrewers, like Wagner's and Starkey's Lookout, both overlooking/on Seneca Lake.

Miller beer is owned and operated by Americans! Unlike bud and some others. American's need jobs too.

I'm amazed at those that think they are drinking an American beer! If the company is owned by other than American's I don't call it an American beer, any more than I call a Toyota an American car, even if it's made in the US.

Anheuser-Busch InBev, a Belgian/Brazillian brewer that now owns Anheuser-Bush, has over 250 beer brands produced and sold throughout the world. This makes them the largest brewing company ever conglomeratized.

Under InBev, the flagship brands that you will mostly come across in the U.S. are Stella Artois, Brahma, Beck's, Leffe, Boddingtons, Hoegaarden, Labatt, Löwenbräu, St. Pauli Girl and Tennent's. Under the new "Belgweiser" ownership, they add over 40 different beers and malt liquors. The most popular are the Budweiser family of beers (Bud, Bud Light, Bud Select, etc.), the Michelob Family of beers (Michelob, Michelob Light, Michelob Ultra), the Busch Family of beers (Busch, Busch Light, Busch Ice), and who can forget the Natural "Natty" Family (Natural Light & Natural Ice).
At best it can be called American STYLE beer. I try to buy American-American beer made by an American owned brewer. I'm just glad the Chinese haven't started bringing in Chinese beer-cheaper to be sure, or maybe even some Syrian beer (made for export only). Or the communist Chinese could buy an American owned brewery, and start......
Any way thank God we still have some American owned breweries!!

American Ales, Beers, Stouts, are all manufactured by small businesses across the US, in brew pubs, and brew clubs. As to brewing style or whatever you want to call it, there is an American Ale, that is a traditionally brewed Ale. The best example I find that is commercially made is Red Tail Ale. It is not an english or Scottish amber ale, it is a traditional American Ale with a different flavor palate. One will also find such ales in the same town as Dogsish Head Brewing Company.
The traditional American Ale has a slight balance toward the malt, but with a definite hoppy finish. It is well balanced in both sweetness and bitterness with a semi sweet finish, not unlike a traditional English Amber Ale(has more malt and is sweeter finishing).

Pizza! Any body that would roll biscuit dough that thin oughta be gored with a hollow horn!! Have you any idea about black-eyed peas, turnip greens, cabbage, cornbread, pork chops, fried egg plant, topped off with homemade peach cobbler??

    Didn't think you did!!

So OP hows that High Life sitting this morning? :)

I drank plenty a Pony in my life (guys in the mid-west might know what those are)

The great thing is a case is so cheap you can afford an adult diaper; for when you shit your pants in the morning.

As I read this thread I was drinking a Sam Adams with some late lunch.

    Some random comments:
A car nut friend of mine will only drink Miller Lite, so when he's here, I drink it with him.

I find that in summer here in Florida, I end up drinking more lighter brews. It's just not right to be drinking porters and dubbles when you're fishing and its hotter than blazes out.

I tend a bit towards the "If its beer, then drink it" concept, but do go out of my way to try and enjoy anything new or different out there.

Every October down here there's an amateur brew contest. For a $15 ticket you get a 4 oz tasting cup. Try as many or as often as the kegs hold out. Last year a few guys had two kegs of the best milk stout I've ever tasted. Not surprisingly, they ran out early.

Back in broke college days and early family days, we lived not far from a Genesee brewery in NY. They sold unlabeled 22oz bottles in cases out the back dock. You had to look into the bottle before drinking it just in case...

Best and/or most memorable beer so far was in a Bavarian monastery. Awesome flavor, body, finish and would kick you sideways if you had more than a few pints.

    OK, now I'm thirsty again.

    All is well.

Turned out to be a fun night anyways. I took a mini nap and then the wife came home on one of those rare weekends that she isn't on call and doesn't go to bed at like 930. Instead, she decided we needed more beer to go with all of the movies she picked up on the way home and we were up until 4am.

So let's recap. Lots of beer. Entertainment. Food. Asian in underwear. More beer. Then sleep.

I am going to see if my local place carries that, I am very interested in trying this.

Here you go bro, these guys are near me and they'll ship. Rochefort Trappist 10 This place is incredible. If ever make it down San Diego way you have to check out the main Stone brewery in Escondido, and Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido. Don't forget to go downstairs to the secret wine tasting room. Wife approved. The beer selection there will make your head spin. I'm sure you know what you're doing, but as a general warning to people who normally drink Bud, this stuff is probably not going to be drinkable. It's the sort of thing that one builds up a taste for, IMO. And at eleven point something in alcohol content, treat as wine as far as drinking and operating machinery goes.

I don't know about anyone else, but in far Souther New Jersey, the only thing I can find is Lowenbrau and Harpoon's Hefeweizen UFO. Without taking an hour drive, German beer does really exist around here. Well, none that I have found.

I tried their OAKED arrogant bastard and poured it out. I couldn't get past the taste.

I'm sure a few guys here were thinking I was exaggerating with my warning, but I didn't want anyone to blame me for the cost of the beer!
Double bastard is pretty much two Arrogant Bastards in one bottle. The Oaked AB is a little smoother than the regular AB. My father in law won't even drink the Stone Pale Ale. One sip and it's in the sink.

The oaked is the only one in their line that I have tried and I was drinking it on a pretty empty stomach with out food so may help if I was having a steak with it who knows but they are not for everyone that is for sure.

I've been on an IPA kick ever since I had several rounds of Surly Furious IPA when I was in Minneapolis a few weeks ago. Shit tasted like grapefruit it's so hoppy. I can't get it locally, but have found that Ranger IPA is a fair substitute.
